@AyCe
afaik the only thing that could persist information across campaigns is profile.bin

I don't know of any mods that write to that

If mods are not enabled and user config. files have been cleared, then there's nothing to take effect

@Dragon32
As I said, no mods loaded that changed ammo types in this fresh campaign, yet it didn't work. So it has to be global or something. Dunno.
Dragon32 6 Jun @ 4:00pm
@AyCe
That's pretty much my understanding, but I thought the deck that items are picked from is "generated the first time you completed the relevant proving grounds experimental project" so what mods you had loaded in a previous campaign won't matter.
AyCe 6 Jun @ 1:54pm
I just started a game (some mods but no LW) with the bug - no message or item when completing experimental ammo. I did have LW enabled in the past though. Then I saved, activated this mod, and continued, starting another experimental ammo project. This time it worked. Thanks!

The way I understand it, the pool for "select next random ammo" is global, not savegame specific, and LW had added stuff into that pool that now no longer exists because the mod is disabled. As a result, when a random ammo type was picked, I got types that no longer exist. This mod always refreshes that global pool with current ammo types. As a result, one may get the same ammo twice in a row and such. Did I get that correct?
Dragon32 17 Apr @ 6:01pm
@pas
I think the WotC Highlander fixes that, but check its change log
pas 17 Apr @ 1:50pm
This mod doesn't fix the issue of experimental ammo project giving no reward. Is it supposed to?

Workshop.
the__mentat 31 Oct, 2024 @ 6:41am
@Dragon32, do you mean weapon mods such as scopes, magazines, etc., or workshop mods?
Dragon32 30 Oct, 2024 @ 3:16pm
@the__mentat
If you never add or remove mods during a campaign then, AFAIK, there's no point in using this mod.
the__mentat 30 Oct, 2024 @ 2:52pm
I don't quite understand what this mod does from the description. After reading the comments, I can say that I never had an experimental ammo or any other proving ground project complete without me getting the relevant item.
girlsdontlikeme.JIF 19 Oct, 2024 @ 11:48pm
thank you!
Subdane 22 Jul, 2024 @ 11:15pm
Thank you, like many others I did not get my experimental ammo. I wasn't even using mods. This fixed that issue :) Wasted several cores not getting my ammo.
Krygerdile 3 May, 2024 @ 10:32pm
thank you based god
spacefiddle 15 Jan, 2024 @ 11:26pm
lol raise your hand if you also came here after wasting cores without realizing you weren't gettin' no damn ammo lmao

@Dellar
Steam's probably having one of its moments. Close and restart the client, unsubscribe and re-subscribe.

Oh, and mods will only show up after they've downloaded not during.
Dellar 30 Nov, 2021 @ 6:52pm
I mean the Alternate mod Launcher by the way
Dellar 30 Nov, 2021 @ 4:03pm
The mod doesn´t seem to appear in the xcom 2 launcher when downloading it, is this normal?

@lolic_lol I'm a month and a half late, so this may not be useful but...

The log file is saying:
Line 1: Trying to load game ID 268500 (XCom2), Mod ID 665435869 (Reward Decks Refresher)
Line 2: success
Line 3: Trying to load game ID 268500 (XCom2), Mod ID 667104300 ([WotC] Mod Config Menu)
Line 4: success
Line 5: Trying to load game ID 268500268500 (*invalid*, XCom2's ID twice), Mod ID *blank*
Line 6+: crash

I suspect you have a corrupted download of a mod, maybe MCM. Check D:\Games\Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\ and see if there is a folder "268500268500". Also check D:\Games\Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\268500\ for "268500" or "268500268500". None of those 3 are valid (at least not as of right now). If there is a <ModName>.XComMod file, it'll tell you what mod it thinks is there.

I would unsubscribe (via Steam workshop) any mods found in an invalid folder, delete the folder, and resubscribe. Also, look at mod problem guides like the one from this mod's description.
CrazyMalk 20 Dec, 2020 @ 3:40pm
@Anarchy or, just use the Alternate Mod Launcher. It is basically a requirement to modding xcom nowadays.
Anarchy 14 Nov, 2020 @ 11:52am
If you are having trouble getting this mod to work with WOTC try bypassing the default launcher.

How to bypass the launcher:

1. In steam, right click xcom2 - properties - local files - browse local files
Open: Binaries - Win64 - Launcher

2. You should see an app called "ModLauncherWPF"
- Open it.

From here you can select XCOM2 or XCOM2 WOTC, and select mods.

3. Select XCOM 2 WOTC and ensure that Rewards Deck Refresher is selceted.

4. Launch the game.
** When you launch the game from this launcher you will get some "red screen errors". I was
able to escape out of them but just be aware that you'll probably see a few.

At this point you can load a saved game or start a new game. Doing so should allow Rewards Deck Refresher to do it's thing. You should then be able to exit the application and play from the default launcher with no issues.
-bg-  [author] 12 Nov, 2020 @ 6:15pm
you do, the decks are created when you start a new game
BlazinHothead 12 Nov, 2020 @ 5:52pm
So I don't need this if I add a mod during during a game but have yet to even build the Proving Grounds?
lolic_lol 6 Nov, 2020 @ 5:31am
When mod enabled, crash dump created in MyGames folder, with strange content (part of it):

False info. The mod did not load the first time. When rebooting with it, it freezes again.
lolic_lol 6 Nov, 2020 @ 4:46am
Yeah, sorry, after removal of local settings folder - game loaded, even with this mod.
Dragon32 6 Nov, 2020 @ 4:00am
@lolic_lol
Working fine here, have a read of some great Mod Troubleshooting advice
That recommends the excellent Alternate Mod Launcher [github.com] Everyone who uses mods should be using it
As well as AML's own wiki and FAQs, this guide gives some more detailed advice on using the Alternate Mod Launcher: Troubleshooting: Mods not working properly / at all
If you're using the Community Highlander then read its specific troubleshooting advice [github.com]
lolic_lol 6 Nov, 2020 @ 2:03am
Unfortunately, the game refuses to load with this mod.
EvilPolygons 15 Sep, 2020 @ 8:53pm
@-bg-
Yes! Exactly what I was hoping to hear! Thank you! :2018bestcoffee:
-bg-  [author] 15 Sep, 2020 @ 7:34pm
you only need it turned on when you enable/disable mods, once you load a game with it and save afterwards the changes will be applied and you can safely turn this mod off again
EvilPolygons 14 Sep, 2020 @ 4:01am
Does the Reward Decks Refresher need to be enabled continuously throughout the entire campaign? Or does it work its magic on the reward decks at campaign start, and can afterwards be safely disabled?

If the latter is true, then the issue with the Useful Autopsy mods can be solved by simply disabling Reward Decks Refresher after it does its job (I hope).
EvilPolygons 10 Sep, 2020 @ 9:26pm
@-bg-
Okay, I think I understand what you're saying. I haven't looked at his code, so I'm not sure if that's what is going on. I myself have a hard time wrapping my head around template management in xcom2. It's very easy to get something slightly wrong and not know it.
-bg-  [author] 10 Sep, 2020 @ 7:58pm
if that's the case, they may be using the wrong way to patch the reward list, this mod tries to match the reward deck with what is defined in the templates of each tech, which is where you should actually make the changes to.
EvilPolygons 10 Sep, 2020 @ 7:26pm
This mod has a compatibility issue with the "Useful Autopsies" series of mods. Those mods remove specific items from the Proving Grounds' experimental projects, which this mod then shoves right back into the reward decks (can be seen in the log).

It would be great if the Reward Decks Refresher included an editable exclusion list .ini to prevent this sort of thing from happening.
chantzofdeth 10 Aug, 2020 @ 12:03am
If anyone is having issues To make this mod work with WOTC simply add the following code line to the xcom2 mod file which is located in the same folder as the Src file

RequiresXPACK=true

Here is an example of it within Grimys loot mod which I also had to adjust to make it work

[mod]
publishedFileId=1142377029
Title=GrimyLootModWOTC
Description=This is a port of Grimy's Loot Mod for WOTC.
RequiresXPACK=true
xtxownage 6 Jul, 2020 @ 4:59am
Yep, new mod launcher be a bit shitty.
Poozer456 5 Jul, 2020 @ 5:01pm
fuck this new launcher. its making some the mods i use not work in game. this is one of them
Dragon32 3 Jul, 2020 @ 11:57am
@Exsanguinius
Two mods you've reported don't work are working fine for me, albeit in the Character Pool.
2K's new launcher won't enable mods made in the base game's SDK, like this one, in WotC. Use the Alternate Mod Launcher.

Grimjack Hex 3 Jul, 2020 @ 11:45am
no longer works as of the latest launcher update
Cato 28 Nov, 2019 @ 11:07am
The launcher flag is garbage since it's literally just checking for a single line.

This mod works in WOTC, I've used it for over 1,000 hours.

PSA - If you are not using the Community Mod Launcher [github.com] instead vanilla then go check it out. It informs you of actual record conflicts and loads about 500% faster.
Dragon32 28 Nov, 2019 @ 9:57am
@Slayer0fKings:
Yes. Compare the release dates of this and WotC.

The AML is simply checking for the presence or absence of the text "RequiresXPACK=true" in the mod's .XComMod file.

And finally, check out -bg-'s commits [github.com] to the AML.
Slayer0fKings 27 Nov, 2019 @ 10:24pm
can confirm xcom mod launcher flags this mod as not compatible...
ec928 24 Nov, 2019 @ 1:53pm
The xcom launcher flags this as "not compatible, use at own risk", but it seems to work most of the time. But was suffering a consistent CTD in the last mission, right after you kill the very last alien in the first part, and the game is supposed to let you engage the 3 avatars.

I enabled a bunch of mods close to the end of this game, so a bit of instability might be expected. But disabling this specific mod before the expected CTD, then re-enabling it after let's you progress.
