Kaldin 16 Jun, 2017 @ 12:35pm
@Snake Plissken: Possibly because they thought it would be difficult with that and the timers? Through it can also work FOR you, so I dunno why...
linxus 16 Jun, 2017 @ 12:26pm
wtf wasn't this part of the base version of xcom eu? how did this not make it into xcom 2...

Is it needed if i have LW2?

Was wondering how all my snipers were getting shot so easily

Game fixes are the best kind of mods.
The Great Garrus 7 Aug, 2016 @ 12:11pm
hi plasman, love this. Q 4 u can you possibly make it hieght level dependant i guess...ie -10 at first floor -20 at 2nd -30 at third for example???
Cider Bizet 25 Jul, 2016 @ 12:23pm
I am SHOCKED that this is a mod and not in the game originally. Wasn't it the case for EU/EW?
Vortex ♀ Pixalation 8 Jul, 2016 @ 2:15pm
I can confirm this mod does cause strange flanking and sight lines through buildings, yes the base game does have the issue but for what ever reason this mod makes it worse, I love the concept for the mod but I think there was a reason this was disabled
Gulp DragonDawn 28 Apr, 2016 @ 8:27am
whew. that's a relief. i would otherwise face 3 gatekeepers! At least they can't float higher.
HellionChavalier 27 Apr, 2016 @ 7:02pm
it would seem that the only time the mod affects heralds in a significat way is when they use blazing pinions (sky rockets). if the floaters are on the same level as you they retain their base defense stats.
Gulp DragonDawn 24 Apr, 2016 @ 9:20pm
plasman: Is the killing of xcom soldiers that bad or can a hardcoreplayer like myself outmanuever such scenerious without a ridiculiously huge killed in action result after mision (completed or failed)? In otherwords I want to subscribe, but I don't want the herald staff users creaming me if I can help it. (I'm really good at manuevering tactics so as long as the mod doesn't make the airborn enemies way to op, I'm ok.)
Joe Stanley Laserpants 24 Apr, 2016 @ 3:44pm
I just thought I'd let you know that aliens being able to shoot through floors, or see through floors, is not a problem with this mod, but is a problem this game has had since release, and one that Firaxis seemingly refuses to patch out.
plasm@n  [author] 23 Apr, 2016 @ 12:55am
@ Hangman11. Personally I never tried to load a saved game while in Combat. Actually I impose myself a kind of mild 'Iron Man' mode by never saving in tactical mode. So unfortunately I can't really help you in this matter.
Wulfe of Legend 21 Apr, 2016 @ 10:24pm
I want to try this mod because maybe with the defense bonus the problem won't be as bad
Wulfe of Legend 21 Apr, 2016 @ 10:24pm
works both ways
Wulfe of Legend 21 Apr, 2016 @ 10:23pm
haven't tried this mod but shooting through floors has always been a thing in my game.
Hangman11 21 Apr, 2016 @ 9:47pm
you make great mods, but I have a problem that is unrelated to your mod directly. ever since i use mods i cannot load a save where i am in combat. i can load the save, but when i give an order to my soldier the game freezes and CTDs. i can load the game just fine when im back on the ship. does anyone know how this might be caused? i cant reload any games that take place on missions anymore.
Gulp DragonDawn 21 Apr, 2016 @ 3:38pm
so can this bug ever be fixed? I wouldn't mind it so much if it weren't for random drop points where the enemy already has a height advantage from turn 1 (happpened on a few terror missions in xcom 2 plus one VIP mission and a gatecrasher playtrough):steamsad:

Now if you really think this mod causes shooting thru floors bugs (which unfor I can neither deny nor confirm at the moment) and want to get read of this mod there are several ways to solve (or at least mitigate) this problem.

Disable the mod and (important) start a new campaign. That's the safest way.

If you want to continue a saved game there is also a (quite popular) mod that allows you to disable a mod and nevertheless continue with your old saves.
Check this link (and read carefully the warnings) : "Ignore missing content mod" @ https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=619141883

Or wait (hopefully not too long) until Firaxis release their new patch with the promised “Load Anyways” button fully implemented.

Or live with it an take this opportunity to enjoy (sometimes) shooting these pesky ADVENT/Aliens thru floors and walls ;)

Personnally I've spent quite a number of hours on XCom EU/EW and I can tell you that this shooting thru walls/floors glitches happened to me more than once. Same goes with vanilla XCom2.

Gulp DragonDawn 20 Apr, 2016 @ 11:20pm
how come height advantages worked fine in XCOM EU/EW, but can't be implemented in xcom 2? You would think he same code wouldn't result in a brand new never before existed bug.
plasm@n  [author] 20 Apr, 2016 @ 2:22pm
@ danielmratliff21. Will do. But I guess the only salvation for "shots thru floors and walls" glitches could come from a Firaxis' patch, since this problem also happens sometimes with the vanilla (non modded) game as well.
plasm@n  [author] 20 Apr, 2016 @ 11:13am
@ Ser Lancelot. It is not recommended to edit the original .ini files. But is you want to take the risk (just remember to make a backup of the original):

Search for [XcomGame.X2TacticalGameRuleset] in the XcomGameCore.ini file.
Then underneath the UnitHeightAdvantageBonus=20 line
add
UnitHeightDisadvantagePenalty=-10

That's it :)

You can change the -10 to increase or decrease the malus.

See screenshot for details (do not put the ";" before the line of code as it used for comments only)

If anyone can fix the floor bug, author please put that link in your subscription!
Ser Lancelot 19 Apr, 2016 @ 8:28am
Is this file a simple .ini edit? If so, what game file in the steamapps root? I can go and edit it myself as opposed to downloading tihs. Thanks.
plasm@n  [author] 18 Apr, 2016 @ 2:35pm
@ Hayyy. Thanks for your feedback. Maybe they left it as a reminder for a future patch ? In this case they'd better have left a warning for modders.
plasm@n  [author] 18 Apr, 2016 @ 2:29pm
I attached a copy of the original code line in the screenshots if you want to take a look at it. It is located in the DefaultGameCore.ini file of the SDK.
Ser Lancelot 18 Apr, 2016 @ 12:18pm
@ADVENT Avenger, that looks like an .ini edit. Where?
Hayyy 18 Apr, 2016 @ 9:39am
@plasman

I tried editing this .ini a while back when the game came out and had the problem OmegaDerektive described. It wasn't exhaustive but I think Firaxis may have omitted this because of the odd bug.
plasm@n  [author] 18 Apr, 2016 @ 9:27am
Thanks very much for your feedback. Subscribers' bug reports are welcome as well as modders' suggestions.

Units, sometimes, being able to see/shoot through the floors and/or walls is a rather common glitch with XCom2 (and Xcom EU/EW btw). It happened to me several times without the mod being enabled.
But , if it happens all the time since you enabled the mod then the problem definitely comes from the mod itself, and I'm sorry for any inconvenience caused (and any lost XCom operative).

I will re-run tests with and without this mod enabled and will let you know. In the meantime if you have a doubt please don't hesitate to disable this mod when starting a new campaign .

For modders wishing to help, the line of code I used ("that I copied" would be more accurate :D) is:
+UnitHeightDisadvantagePenalty=-10

Do you think it would mess up with LOS ? Maybe that's why Firaxis left it buried ?
OmegaDerektive 17 Apr, 2016 @ 4:37pm
I don't know if this has been reported yet, but I think this mod has messed with the line of sight of units at higher elevations. After installing it the added bonuses are kicking in, but I also have advent shooting at my guys through floors where previously they wouldn't be in LOS. Likewise, my troops at higher elevations can also shoot at aliens lower than them, even through floors when they shouldn't be able to see them. I'm keeping the mod installed but I hope you fix this
plasm@n  [author] 17 Apr, 2016 @ 2:50am
@ Pr8Dator Sure, but for the moment this is well above (height disadvantage) my coding skill.
空.明 16 Apr, 2016 @ 5:50pm
Well, I think a better implementation of this would be defense advantage gaining with height. I have always have gripes with how someone standing on a 3 storey building has the same height advantage as someone standing on a rock in this game and why a "flying enemy" who obviously look like its just hovering no taller than a human on the ground is considered "flying" and gains height advantage. With height implementation, such problems will be overcome.
Juravis 16 Apr, 2016 @ 2:21pm
I use

UnitHeightAdvantageBonus=10
UnitHeightDisadvantagePenalty=-20
plasm@n  [author] 16 Apr, 2016 @ 1:55pm
@ totalimmortal. Yes, maybe that's why Firaxis decided not to implement this line of code. But to my opinion it makes sense that elevated/flying targets would be a bit harder to hit.
plasm@n  [author] 16 Apr, 2016 @ 1:39pm
@ BurningHeron No this is just a single penalty.
unikornus 16 Apr, 2016 @ 1:38pm
@totalimmortal have a good point but I wonder if this can be reworked? Height defense advantage makes sense for troops (both sides) when they are on an elevated platform of some kind because there is some cover. But Archons are often a-floating in the open hence no cover. I wonder if it's possible to mod so floors/ground count as cover when shooters are at a lower elevation?
totalimmortal 16 Apr, 2016 @ 1:12pm
One interesting point is presumably this will make Archons stronger as they will be harder to kill after they use Blazing Pinions.
BurningHeron 16 Apr, 2016 @ 12:02pm
Oh wow, apparently I've not been paying attention because I thought this was already in the game! Thanks! Does the -10 penalty stack if my troops are shooting at a target multiple stories above them?
