@LuckyBounce Apologies for the late reply. I hope you figured out how to fix your graphics error :) I never ran into a similar issue so I wouldn't be much help debugging, but clearing out all files and then letting the game create the .tex files itself on start up (not manually).

@ The Master : My apologies, it was a really dumb mistake. I called it "backpiggy" instead of "piggyback" and the game couldn't find what I was looking for. I uh, may have been coding while sleep deprived forgive me.

It's been updated, give it a update on your end and start the character up fresh and it should be fixed :)

I'd like to report a bug. When I try to build the piggyback, Melissa does do the crafting animation and she does use up the items to craft the piggyback but she then says "I can't do that" and no piggyback is crafted. This happens anytime she tries to craft the piggyback unless she is standing near an Alchemy Engine. When near the Alchemy Engine, there are then two piggyback items you can craft. One doesn't have the regular description (which is the one you added to help Melissa craft it at the start) and the other is the regular piggyback. Crafting this second one is the only way to get a piggyback. I have no other mods active so I figured I'd let you know. Maybe someone else has already talked about this.

Sorry for spamming this thread, but a series of seemingly unfortunate but perhaps not so terrible events left me with a lot of wasted time and an idea: What if you left her with a blueprint for the piggyback, rather than changing the piggyback's science tier? It's your mod, so do what you want with it, but it's just an idea.

Updated it! Piggyback is now back in the Survival tab with the correct recipe. There is no more frayed yarn involved. Melissa starts with the items needed to build the backpack. The only downside is that I had to make the backpack buildable at tech level 0...however this won't much help other players since Rope is needed, which requires at least tech level 1. So it makes it a little easier to make piggybacks overall, but is definitely less game-changing :)

It IS this mod that's causing the issue. For some reason, you can only have one recipe for a specific item at once. If you can craft the piggyback with one recipie, you can't craft it with another, due to some limitation in DS's code. Maybe. I'm just repeating what I've heard, I actually know little to nothing about the game's code.

Hey. my friend and I love your character. Just one thing and im not too sure if its because of Melissa or not. The Piggyback thats craftable with the 1 Frayed yarn that Melissa spawns with is only craftable in the Hat Tab, which is conflicting with the Piggyback that can be crafted in the Survival tab. So to be clear up any confusion, Piggyback is no longer in its respective tab and can ONLY be crafted with 1 Frayed Yarn. I told my friend to make sure that Melissa can't craft another one but he says he doesnt find a craftable Frayed Yarn in either science levels (1-3). We would really like to to craft more Piggybacks so if you could look into it it be great. I'm going to mess around with the other mods I have to check if it actually IS Melissa that is causing this issue.

You could always just start her out with the stock resources needed to craft the piggyback. I suppose one might avoid crafting the pack and go for something else, but then again, one might also hang on to the frayed yarn to trade it with the pig king. I'll subscribe once this mod doesn't interfere with other character's gameplay. Favorited and subscribed to the thread, waiting in anticipation.

Thanks for the suggestions! I am new to modding, and sometimes Klei's code isn't quite intuitive. When giving a backpack on spawn, adding it to the inventory did not work as it's an equip item that can't be in the inventory. Is there a way around this? A way to equip it automatically?

As for the speed boost, I wanted her to have a small one regardless of the backpack. I could add in the packrat tag and then slow her down a bit. Or I could leave it as-is, as I'm fairly happy with her run speed and like the fact that if I want to flee I can ditch the backpack and run (but lose my items/have to come back for them.)

down on line 57 or so of piggyback.lua is the following bit.

inst.components.equippable:SetOnEquip(onequip)
inst.components.equippable:SetOnUnequip(onunequip)
inst.components.equippable.walkspeedmult = TUNING.PIGGYBACK_SPEED_MULT

This is the bit you want to play with.

Suggestions: Remove the spawning with the frayed yarn, and instead just give her a piggyback on spawn. Instead of giving her a speed boost, remove the movement penalty of the piggyback for anyone who has a tag tied to your character. You can do this by adding a 'character does not have packrat tag' to the movement penalty in piggyback.lua and then adding the inst:AddTag("packrat") to your character

Not sure why that's happening, I've played with her a ton and no issues with attacking. Anything else going wrong? Animation errors? Server issues? While playing, if you're the server host, hit "Backspace" to pull up the debug menu. When the character attempts to attack, if an error comes up in the log, let me know what it says and I'll look into it!

Originally the goal was to have a custom backpack of her own, however the way the code works it just wasn't possible (it's still a future goal, but the backpacks run on a widget code I don't know how to access.) The speed boost is fairly minimal, I tried to keep it subtle. Currently she keeps up with the normal characters and will gradually overcome them when running on the same surface. But the hounds and spiders can still catch up to you, so you'll still have to be careful. I definitely didn't want it to be game breaking :)

If she only gained a movement speed bonus with backpacks, or had some attachment to the piggy back, then that would be pretty cool but I know coding that kind of stuff is a bit of a hair pull.

Even small increments to a characters speed can completely break game balance, its so sad that so many characters are ruined because of it.
