Decent test, except that you can get stuck between the bridges.
Ravenmorke 6 Aug, 2012 @ 8:10pm
Nice test, but it is really difficult to align both cubes in the last part of the map...often the cube pass through the platform...BTW great puzzle test! ;)
If you want to get a look to my map, here's the link...I warn you, it's a little difficult! :P

This is a great map. i know you must be stranlged by item limits, but you could have a drop floor inbetween the bridges that can come out on the ledge just below the top
Funslinger 6 Jul, 2012 @ 9:23am
I solved it without using the moving platform. I used all three reflection cubes and the back portal wall of the final chamber.
Driklir 11 Jun, 2012 @ 12:53pm
Great test I had no game problems everything worked swell and it was a very well thought out design.
DRUNK-N-DENNYS 10 Jun, 2012 @ 12:45am
Would be 5/5 if the DRC didn't pass right through the platform. Great ideas and map design. The physics problem isn't from you, but the map is unsolvable...
Thurwell 1 Jun, 2012 @ 4:34pm
You could solve the issue of getting trapped between light bridges if you push the exit chamber back a space so there's a larger gap between bridges, then build a one way exit with a fizzler from between the bridges. It's not too bad once you figure out how to arrange the cubes since you can test out your solution without actually stepping between the bridges, but it really sucks the first time when you're just fiddling around.

Nice puzzle - good to see some new ideas with lasers.
Space Hairdresser 19 May, 2012 @ 3:15am
Ack, Steam keeps killing my maps I'd replied to your comment on that map's workshop page, there's a link to an updated version of that test I built, the first puzzle should hopefully have you stumped for a bit.

Some other players seemed to have had that, strangely this doesn't seem to EVER happen to me as I put the cube in the middle of the platform. I seriously don't know what's happening with that.

And nice elaborate puzzle solving, i'm pretty awful at abstract thinking like that.
Space Hairdresser 17 May, 2012 @ 3:29pm
Right, had another go at what I think is the intended solution, using that sideways moving platform, the cube passes right through it. Anyone else get that?
Space Hairdresser 17 May, 2012 @ 3:16pm
Found another way to solve the last puzzle! It requires all three lense cubes. Arange it so that the beam is going throught the fizzle gate and over the chasm, hitting one of the redirect cubes that hits the trigger for the second (not the first) light bridge. Then, right next to the light bridge use another lense cube and have it break the beam and hit a cube across the chasm and have it trigger the fist light bridge. Walk between the bridges then snatch that lense cube, if you had them alligned right, that should now turn off the second light bridge as the first one turns back on. Finaly, flip the panel and make sure not to loose the portal that had control of the laser.
[SWE]best_jeppe 15 May, 2012 @ 11:03pm
Good map except the dual lightbridges puzzel at the end. That one is just purce chance to get right and therefor you should redesign it to something more "stable".
KennKong 15 May, 2012 @ 11:37am
It is a little easier with 3 cubes. You could prevent my exploit by making the floor under the corner I used non-portalable. I look forward to the Wheatley version.
IratePirate  [author] 15 May, 2012 @ 7:54am
KennKong - That method was the most convuluted thing i've ever seen, you didn't have to make it that difficult. You were supposed to get the cube from the bottom level and add to the two at the top. It was very interesting to watch your wild and wacky solution though, despite most of it being a bit pointless. I guess you solved your own puzzle there.

Prestige - It isn't supposed to land at the right angle to hit the laser relay as you're supposed to move it yourself (its part of the puzzle) so if you spent ages destroying it to get another one at the right angle, that was sort of a waste of time lmao.

Thanks for playing guys.
[UHG]barracks obimbo 14 May, 2012 @ 5:31pm
pretty sure there is a way to make that last laser cube spawn on it's right angle (was really annoying having to do that as i failed over and over), but i suppose you have to have it respawn as the player can destroy it so it'll probably move when it hits the ground. really clever though. gj.
KennKong 14 May, 2012 @ 3:39pm
This is a nice, tricky little map. Tip to other players: if a laser emitter is connected to a catcher through a cube, the cube will not move. This is not the mapper's fault.
This isn't the most graceful walkthrough, but here's my solution video: http://youtu.be/rSH9oMXiyzE
mK 14 May, 2012 @ 10:20am
Aye! :-D
Still good work done!
IratePirate  [author] 14 May, 2012 @ 9:06am
mK - You were virtually at the end, so just count it as a victory. It can't be fixed without getting rid of that entire puzzle (but it will be different in the Hammer version)

Izzz - I can make it work everytime, are you sure you're putting it directly in the middle of it?
Izzz 14 May, 2012 @ 8:21am
the map is too buggy , the moving platform ALLWAYS goes trough my laser reflector cube!... the cube remains in the same spot ..but when the platform goes back it trows away my cube.
i've tried to move the cube in different spots , no luck... i tried it 15 times with f6 f7
mK 14 May, 2012 @ 3:58am
Got stuck between the light bridges as well... very frustrating, as the rest of the chamber was quite tempting.
IratePirate  [author] 13 May, 2012 @ 11:31am
I can understand it yes, and it does seem as you say cleaner, I don't think i'll go out of my way to get rid of such a solution as to be fair it does seem to rely on intelligence, probably even moreso than my intended solution. Thanks for explaining it to me.
Maxwell 13 May, 2012 @ 10:57am
Once I was at the top, I shot a portal back to the beginning area and grabbed the first reflection cube, then set two of the reflections cubes up at the ledge with the moving panel, each pointed at a different laser receiver, while having the third one in its proper place, aimed at the spinning laser receiver. Once I had passed the first light bridge, I could shoot a portal on to the back surface (since the emancipation grid was down), redirecting the laser into the cube which was pointing at the second laser receiver, lowering the second light bridge. It's difficult describing solutions to these puzzles, but do you understand what I'm saying? Anyway, it was such a clean solution, I'm surprised it wasn't the intended one.
IratePirate  [author] 13 May, 2012 @ 10:44am
How did you do it without the moving panel? You are supposed to use it to push a reflection cube past both of the catchers.
Maxwell 13 May, 2012 @ 10:43am
Oh, I just read your comment regarding how the moving panel was used. Jeeze, that sounds like a pain. My solution was a lot cleaner.
Maxwell 13 May, 2012 @ 10:42am
Very nice puzzle overall. Two things though: first, you can get stuck in between the light bridges if you don't think ahead. I had to use console commands to get out, otherwise I'd have had to start the level over from the beginning. Second, what was that moving panel supposed to be used for? When I first saw it, I figured it'd be used to move the cubes remotely, but I didn't ever need to do that in my solution.
IratePirate  [author] 13 May, 2012 @ 9:49am
I seriously have no clue how you managed to do that, i'm impressed. Do you have a way of recording that solution for me?

SPOILERS: The actual way you complete it is to get the lasers lined up in a way so that the platform pushes the laser cube past both catchers.

I've removed the Hard Light Bridge now so I guess your method no longer works, but I am deeply curious as to how you even came up with the idea to that.
Space Hairdresser 13 May, 2012 @ 9:43am
Wait, reading the comments you say that the light bridge is redundant in this map? I wouldn't have been able to solve it without it.
Was that how it was intended? Can't think of any other way to solve it, unless there was a second laser. Which brings me to my next question, was there a second laser?
Space Hairdresser 13 May, 2012 @ 9:43am
Spoilers for my very fiddly solution: get the laser from early on in the map, make a portal between it and the final room. Using the cubes line up the beam so it hits the second target, turning off the second light field. Once you've got that done get another cube, break the beam and it up so you're somehow hitting the first target. Then, turn on the light bridge and quickly place your cube on it in such a way that it strikes the first target, but is also over the pit. Then run like heck to the exit and past the first light field, wait untill the timer runs out and the cube drops, if you'd kept your other cubes in the same position, the laser will now be on the second target opening the second light field, leaving you home free.
IratePirate  [author] 13 May, 2012 @ 9:38am
This issue will be sorted out in the Hammer version of the map, there doesn't seem to be any way I can get rid of the problem in PETI without scrapping the wall puzzle entirely.
Korra 13 May, 2012 @ 9:19am
yea, just test it again..and when the reflector box is reflecting laser, it goes right through the panel that is supposed to push it
Korra 13 May, 2012 @ 9:11am
there's a point where u can get stuck between the 2 light bridge gates at the end of the map right before the exit door..the pushing panel didn't push the reflector box...somehow the reflector box went right through it after being pushed far enough to restart the first light bridge gate....if you get stuck between the two bridges then u can't get out peroid...u might want to look into a way of preventing that.
Nat 13 May, 2012 @ 7:00am
Well that's your opinion XD
I do enjoy flings, don't get me wrong, but I sometimes forget which portal to place while flying through the air. I'm not so good at making critical decisions in a short amount of time -_-;
IratePirate  [author] 13 May, 2012 @ 6:41am
Oh... now I think about that was actually the way you were supposed to do it, lmao. Except I assumed you would simply enjoy doing flings up to the top level as opposed to using the funnel (which is much less fun)
Nat 13 May, 2012 @ 5:05am
I connected the lasers in the first room to the laser catcher so I could press the button. Then I hurried over to connect the tractor beam to the two portable surfaces (Orange on the one above the machine and blue on the other where I used the cube on the button to flip over the one on the floor) and then jumped in, waiting long enough to get high enough, then placed a orange portal on the Angled panel to shoot me over the Frizzler. Since you left some space between the ceiling and the frizzler, my portals didn't disappear, and I was able to place an orange portal on the other side to get me back to the irst room, where I just placed a blue portal above the tractor beam again, and then just let myself get carried away.
IratePirate  [author] 13 May, 2012 @ 4:20am
@Peacock - 1. If you brought the one from the first section then you definitely had more than you needed, I didn't want to needlessly overcomplicate it by forcing the player to go back to get the other one.

2. That portable surface is in case you fall down and don't want to have to go through the first section of the puzzle again. It's like a ladder dropping down in any other video game.

3. It seems to be, I will probably get rid of it next version.

Cheers guys.
IratePirate  [author] 13 May, 2012 @ 4:20am
@NeoDinian - Well if you managed to do that then well done,it didn't even occur to me, i'll probably have to change that then (or maybe leave it in as an alternate solution, i'm not a fan of how Portal 2's campaign railroaded the player so much). And yes, there are issues with the platform, but if you put it in the centre it works pretty much all of the time, it has to be dead in the middle however.

@Natsuke - You did some kind of massive detour then from the original puzzle, how did you get over the fizzler wall? I'm impressed whatever the case.
IratePirate  [author] 13 May, 2012 @ 4:20am
@ Kermix - The light bridge is so you can more easily get access to the laser emitter on the bottom part of the map, but I think it might now just be pointless due to the increasing in size of the platform with the cube pusher on.

@Da Bumble - It's not your fault as such lol, more that it'd be impossible to change that section of the puzzle using only 128x128 blocks (which is what the PETI editor uses)

@YM - Yeah the light bridge isn't necessary, and if you brought the reflection cube from the bottom to the top then yeah, you didn't really need to use all of the ones on the top level. I'm a big fan of your maps by the way.
Bysalmorphic 13 May, 2012 @ 2:09am
The second half of the test had many redundant elements.
1.Waaay too many Discouragement Redirection Cubes. The test could be solved with just 3 cubes, including the one from the first section.

2.Can't find a use for the button which activates the portalable surface after you launch over the Material Emancipation Grill.

3.Hard Light Bridge. I assume this was a leftover from an earlier version of the test chamber.
Nat 12 May, 2012 @ 8:16pm
Wow that took a lot of time. Finally managed to get over the frizzler wall without losing the portals, and then used the tractor beam to lift me to the top, but using the cubes took way longer. Well done
NeoDinian 12 May, 2012 @ 6:34pm
Didn't need the entire first part of the puzzle. Got to the upper level doing ping-pongs after the funnel dropped me going through the fizzler.

Also, the pusher panel has a noclip issue. The cube goes through it more offten then not.
'Rito 12 May, 2012 @ 5:54pm
I was overcomplicating that like nobod's business at the end. I ended up with one spare reflecto-cube and never needed to use the light bridge at the end.
pdA.DaBumble 12 May, 2012 @ 3:53pm
If someone manages to get stuck between the two bridges at the end it's their own damn fault lol.
Crill 12 May, 2012 @ 3:51pm
hoo! that hurt. but I made it. DAE manage to stick the moving platform when it tries to push a reflecting cube that's caught a laser?

also I did this without using that light bridge in the middle, I am guessing that is wrong :P
IratePirate  [author] 12 May, 2012 @ 5:11am
The last platform is still a bit buggy, but it works most of the time. You have to put the cube in the centre of it and hope that it works.

And Da Bumble, you were extremely unlucky/put the cube at a silly angle if you managed to get trapped in between the two walls. It happened to me once during testing but it was impossible to change that puzzle to allow for a white panel to be there (as the two walls have to be right next to it each other)

Thanks for the feedback guys.
pdA.DaBumble 11 May, 2012 @ 8:21pm
The cube passes through sideways moving platform instead of being pushed. At least for me.
pdA.DaBumble 11 May, 2012 @ 8:01pm
Stuck between two bridges..... nice!
MoonSohn 11 May, 2012 @ 6:54pm
was having fun until that last platform didnt act like it had done in the dry runs >_>
IratePirate  [author] 9 May, 2012 @ 2:20pm
Now in V1.1.

Replaced the moving platform with a sideways pushing platform.
IratePirate  [author] 9 May, 2012 @ 7:20am
I realised that, I wanted to keep the concept so I put the faith plate there so that you could jump back to the final section before the cube fell off. It is possible to keep it on long enough but its certainly an annoying, laser-dodging feat.
