Very strange room even 10 years later. Never played one like it. I love finding thee obscure treasures.

That's...weird.
vioray 26 Sep, 2014 @ 11:00am

At first I had no idea what to do. Then I realized I can shoot like a turret.

Also I had fun screwing with the first door hatch making it rapidly move up and down moving myself back and fourth. :P

Destroy the lighted window and what lies beyond.
Unowninator 31 Dec, 2013 @ 7:16pm
Okay, I just trapped the 2 turrets. Now what? How do I switch back to the human?
Sunroses 28 Aug, 2013 @ 8:00am
My windows bootcamp has an overstuffed hard drive. =(
Rand0mNumbers  [author] 28 Aug, 2013 @ 12:07am
Is bootcamp a possibility? You could dual boot Windows and have at it.
Sunroses 27 Aug, 2013 @ 9:00am
Hey, you know how I said I was going to use this idea in a mod? I think I might need some help implementing it. Currently, though, I don't have access to Hammer due to MAC SUCKS, but I'm saving up for a windows desktop.
Sunroses 10 Mar, 2013 @ 1:23pm
@John Freechantment xD nice one
Yes, he does do that. If he doens't, let me know.
Rand0mNumbers  [author] 10 Mar, 2013 @ 8:51am
It should only restart if you die as a turret. Hmm...
Macic 10 Mar, 2013 @ 8:01am
So all is perfect but on
part to turrets try to kill me
on next seconds level will be restarted :( Are that normal?
Sunroses 31 Oct, 2012 @ 4:08pm
=D thanks!
Rand0mNumbers  [author] 29 Oct, 2012 @ 7:37pm
Go ahead.
Sunroses 29 Oct, 2012 @ 3:51pm
Mind if i use this idea in a mod i'm making? (it would be a bit different)
I Kinda Fail 24 Oct, 2012 @ 11:24pm
... Wait. What. We were supposed to cage the 2 turrets? I tried that and nothing seemed to happen, so I shot the 3rd turret and won...
John Freechment 20 Oct, 2012 @ 6:23am
"Do X.

If Y happens, let me know."
Koala 2 Oct, 2012 @ 4:26pm
i am going to go play by! on portal 2
Koala 2 Oct, 2012 @ 4:25pm
oh ok i just got it done thanks =]
Rand0mNumbers  [author] 2 Oct, 2012 @ 4:24pm
Primary and secondary fire shoot the turret's guns. Your targets are on the ceiling.
Koala 2 Oct, 2012 @ 4:03pm
its like your a turret! but its hard i dont know what do do!
Rand0mNumbers  [author] 22 Sep, 2012 @ 3:35am
I think the hint sould stay as is due to the shift in gameplay you pointed out. Without that bit, a lot of people didn't see the ingame hints (I suppose a whole lot of light would solve that problem).
The Sojourner 22 Sep, 2012 @ 2:57am
Thanks for giving us a big part the solution (please use a spoiler for the kind of stuff found in that last sentence of yours).

Regarding the map itself, you have an A for creativity, but an F for staying with the spirit of the game. Much fun as turrets are, Portal and Portal 2 aren't meant to be shooter-style games! Also, it was kinda frustrating to try and figure out the solution (i.e. where to shoot exactly).
1980 12 Aug, 2012 @ 5:31am
Press mouse buttons(right & left click) and gunshot will be fired while you press them. And you can catch targets by moving mouse. Shot at the vaccum tubes above the turrets, then they will be fall onto them.
MachManX 21 Jul, 2012 @ 10:16pm
Me: Sentry, Mode, Activated.
Others: Huh? What are you talking about?
Me: I'm Different. (Machine Gun Fires)
Others: Aaaaaah! Critical Error!

Ah, to be a turret. I make the "regular" turrets look bad :P
TOM.is.ZÓ.2009 21 Jul, 2012 @ 6:19am
im seeing all these bad comemnts while i had a whale of fun.. im confinced 99/100 people who have a ''bug'' simply dont watch the first part where is explaint taht you have to aim for the pipes.

9 out of 10 for me.. a 100 for the creatifity
AEon 1 Jul, 2012 @ 5:02am
Really nifty idea to let the player control one of the turrets.

(Alas, as you know, the aiming interface is quite laggy.)
Chief Grug 1 Jul, 2012 @ 3:19am
How did you do it???????????????????????
lonote53 8 Jun, 2012 @ 9:59am
Concept looks good. It just doesn't work. Have little or no control of 'me'. Not so fun in this stage. As Xcom says; Become a turret, and die. Whoopee!
Rand0mNumbers  [author] 27 May, 2012 @ 11:13am
Ugh...I'm starting to hate that turret.
The last time people had this problem it was because the i/o chain that puts you in control didn't recognize the player as the root triggering entity. I wonder what it is this time. :(
XcomReborn 27 May, 2012 @ 8:49am
Not working. So far all that can be done is go into a room press a button, become a turrent and die. Not much fun.
Rand0mNumbers  [author] 26 May, 2012 @ 8:27am
Press left/right attack buttons (usually mouse1 and mouse2). If those do not work, I'm still running into an initialization problem. The hints are in place for my copy; I'm just trying to figure out what causes the issue. Although, I might just scrap it for the new system. Can't do much about it right now. Gotta run.
DrBreen 26 May, 2012 @ 4:29am
Sorry, I still have no idea what to do, i've tried 3 times and I can't work it out. Either make it blatantly obvious what the players is doing and their goal or scrap the idea. I press the button, im transported to a new view where i'm getting shot at by turrets, i try and press buttons and nothing happens until I eventually die...what about a cue like "Press x to x" - Trying to be as constructive as I can here, hopefully you can overcome the obstacles and your idea comes good :0)
o+= 24 May, 2012 @ 2:15pm
Difficulty 3/10
Fun 2/10

It's great that you're trying something different but without proper information about this new style it's confusing as to what has to happen. I only figured it out from the comments on here.
Rand0mNumbers  [author] 22 May, 2012 @ 10:08pm
Argh. I thought I fixed that bug. Before you press the button, turn on cheats. If that doesn't work. I'll try to fix it, again.

Anything coming up in the console?
yvyvyv 22 May, 2012 @ 9:59pm
am i doing it wrong? i cant find a way to trap the turrets in the beginning and once i push the button i turn into the turret which i cant control and just die slowly. cool idea im going to stay subscribed and go back later sometimes that helps me find things i missed
Rand0mNumbers  [author] 16 May, 2012 @ 4:10pm
I've been working on that on and off for a few months. The turret is already an instance, respawnable, can disengage at any time, has better control, and uses defective vo. The current issue with it is how the ai takes a while to restart if the turret tips over and deactivates.
Le Petit Mort 16 May, 2012 @ 4:08pm
Developing the mechanic further, it occurs to me that placing the turret on a (sideways) moving platform could open up more complicated level designs; imagine having the player remove (unfriendly) turrets or obstacles, so the turret can then be moved to a position where it can aid the player.
Rand0mNumbers  [author] 15 May, 2012 @ 12:59pm
Not quite. There is a little room you need to destroy. I'm still trying to make it more apparent.
TheThreeLaws 15 May, 2012 @ 9:19am
Very cool idea,. Not really sure what to do once they've been caged....is that where it ends? Cus I just sat there as the turret and didn't do anything. Could be great with a little work.
Rand0mNumbers  [author] 14 May, 2012 @ 1:33pm
Just to confirm, the problems you all have with aiming are when the turret wanders around, right? If so, that's because I didn't completely disable the turret's ai. If I had, the turret would be rather stiff. It wouldn't move from where you put it and that didn't seem right to me.
Smatislav 14 May, 2012 @ 10:49am
Had to read the comments to figure it out but thumbs up for the idea. Some more breakable stuff would add to the fun of it. Also aiming was messed up for me, i missed a cool crosshair :)
Rand0mNumbers  [author] 14 May, 2012 @ 12:39am
I guess the spark sound isn't loud enough. I think I need something, say, a light to swing and smack the glass when the room shakes to get the player to look at the right spot.
Le Petit Mort 13 May, 2012 @ 7:00pm
Neat idea, but the execution needs a little work: sound on the 'tutorial' would be a great way to draw more attention to it, and it's not clear you need to shoot the area behind the glass, or that you need to keep shooting to break it.
PortalTurret 13 May, 2012 @ 2:07pm
ok!
Rand0mNumbers  [author] 13 May, 2012 @ 1:05pm
Ya, I'm still working on the targeting system and refining the turret as a whole.
PortalTurret 13 May, 2012 @ 8:59am
i see a little glitch n the aiming, since the only way to aim is with the lazer, sometimes the lazer screws up
PortalTurret 12 May, 2012 @ 2:58pm
make more of them where you can be a turret shooting at test subjects if you could. or maybe you are on a conveytor belt
PortalTurret 12 May, 2012 @ 2:57pm
yay i beat it
