If anyone is having compatibilities issues with other mods that add flying units, in the "Palanquin.xml", lines 123 & 145, replace "PROMOTION_MOVE_ALL_TERRAIN" with "PROMOTION_FLIGHT_PALANQUIN".
Don't touch any other line.

Finally a mod worthy of my time!

For some reason the mod crashes the game, even when it's just this and the IGE. So I doubt it's a compatibility issue. The crash happens when I spawn an amphitheater and great writer and put a great work in the amphitheater then end the turn. Specifically it crashes when the new turn is about to begin. I'm guessing it's a LUA issue. Not sure why it's not working for me. I have all the DLC.

I really like the idea behind this mod, but the numbers for the unique building and unique ability can slingshot both players and AI into god-tier functionality ridiculously fast. Even worse, the investment required to do this is very small and stacks easily and quickly thanks to the somewhat overpowered synergy between the unique features.

I can't seem to build the frigate replacement it doesn't appear on the tech tree and neither does the frigate. Do you need a coastal city to build the frigate replacement (even in a land city).

Side note, Civ loves to capitalize Great Work of Writing for some reason. Maybe because it's GREAT. I don't even know. x3

Rather, while it's focused on one victory type, the flat values allow it to pursue others. My apologies it's early in the morning for me. QWQ

I finally came around to balancing Civ's and this civlization always seemed odd to me. It feels very focused on one victory type, their frigate replacement acts like a scout and the culture plus fatih element of their writing works means they will be loaded with Fatih and Culture. This seems like a Civ who gets these flat values easily enough so they can focus on other victory types. I can see wide empires managing a rather expansive faith base.

I would simply reverse the values so it's +3 culture and +2 faith per great work and then give the Pallaquin normal production cost. Very small change will nerf sim city players who will rush Great Library into Philosophy for a large boost in fatih. It'll also allow Pallaquin to be a unique investment for naval empires and allow the AI to actually build them.

Overall, amazingly balanced Civ that was a challenge to out religeon in my mod pack.

Rush great library, tech calender while building it.
When it's finished pick philosophy as free tech and bam free 2 culture and 3 faith XD

Yeah, that is true. If it were a naval unit, it wouldn't be able to be produced in-land. That also allows it to heal outside of friendly territory, I believe. Thinking about it that way, it might need a higher production cost or lower defensive strength, but it's fun the way it is, so I'll hold off on any changes.

@Bismuth
Thanks for your explanation!

As you said, I expected the outcome because of Civ 5 AI's bad war strategies. It's a bit dissapointing, but also a relief to find that I don't need to worry AI Byakuren's naval assaults.

By the way, after playing Byakuern on my own, I noticed the UU is affected by roads/railroads and the Great Generals. So it aclually is a land unit that can fly on the sea, not a naval one, isn't it?

Byakuren AI will produce palanquins rarely, but she will avoid sending them out to sea. She instead uses them to attack over land. I feel like the AI wants to avoid the high production cost or something. Civ AI isn't really that great at picking the best military units.

Also, I thought upgrading the Palanquin would cause it to be stuck, as spawning in a battleship on land with IGE will give you a battleship that can't move, but if you roll the turn over, it will be transported to the nearest body of water. I have updated the description to reflect this (It previously said the unit would be stuck if upgraded on land).

I wanted to see how AI uses Palanquins, but it seems that Byakuren's AI ignores making them.

What a clever implementation of the UU.

The Palanquin Ship sounds really, really cool. Can't think of a better UU unit for Byakuren's crew and looking forward to trying it out!

Aww yeah, Myouren Temple! Finally I cna play as my favorite faction from Touhou <3
Kadapunny 22 May, 2016 @ 7:34am
oo~ I like that a bit more. I was thinking of the same kind of thing for the UU, but it'd be the UB. A moving building.
