nice bots Parkasever!

also for the old comments below, there are 1x1 small grid batteries, I dont think they'd last as long as a reactor tho
Aether 7 Feb, 2022 @ 3:43am
@DEADPOO Aren't batteries bigger than the reactor, meaning that it won't be able to roll as well?
Also the comment is two year old.
DEADPOO 7 Feb, 2022 @ 3:36am
@งง Two Snake
Gee, you're playing an Engineer...how hard is it to swap a reactor for batteries? Why can't you do it?
งง Two Snake 17 May, 2020 @ 5:42am
Could you do a version of these using batteries?

Gizmogadget 29 Dec, 2016 @ 10:46am
hey man im a fan of you "mini" bots but i have a request could you make them a lil more user friendly like a start button or stop button b/c idk how to use the RC and other stuff?

can you make a well basicly a "tank"?
with wheels and a gatlin turret
parkasever  [author] 11 Jul, 2016 @ 12:36am
Yeah, it's also equipped with a lighter :D
I'm not a fan of BB8. A true astromech droid like R2D2 hacks the Death Star, repairs damaged X-wings during flight and zapps aliens with a thunderbolt :D
howardxu23 11 Jul, 2016 @ 12:13am
BB-8 did carry a holo map fragment of where Luke is in the movie, and to keep it from the first order, so it is not useless.
parkasever  [author] 10 Jul, 2016 @ 11:49pm
Updated with the Dream Assembly review video!
parkasever  [author] 6 Jul, 2016 @ 6:12pm
Just the colour scheme. This robot actually does something. BB-8 just looks cute :P
howardxu23 4 Jul, 2016 @ 4:55am
Is it by any chance inspired by BB-8 from Star Wars? The colour scheme is similar
madpie 28 Jun, 2016 @ 12:05am
really?
LS 26 Jun, 2016 @ 5:14am
I will take it apart now
LS 26 Jun, 2016 @ 5:13am
I never realized you could use gyro override!
LS 26 Jun, 2016 @ 5:13am
OH MY GOD YOUR A GENIUS
parkasever  [author] 25 Jun, 2016 @ 6:19pm
@LordSkloore / It is constantly "turning" using the gyro. it also has other settings that help direct it better but... that's about it. No magic.
LS 25 Jun, 2016 @ 5:33pm
@what do you mean it simply works? How does it flip

parkasever  [author] 25 Jun, 2016 @ 4:42pm
@uoowuo / Thank you for experimenting. I tried all the experiments you mention. I will try to be brief:
- Sloped armor is better to control than spiked;
- Large ship version has 1/2 torque power limit and it destroys itself (there is some kind of difference in Large vs Small blocks);
- perpetuum-mobile with two gyros on a "stick" works, but it's hard to control. I did achieve some success in space models though with advanced gyro use (check out: https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=709625542
- adding thrusters defeats the purpose of them staying cheap, yes

@LordSkloore / It... I don't know. It simply works. No scripts are needed.
LS 25 Jun, 2016 @ 3:50pm
How does it work without scripting?
uoowuo 25 Jun, 2016 @ 11:55am
Or maybe there's a way to use 2 gyros, say, on the ends of a stick, to make the whole thing spin around the center fast or something like that.
uoowuo 25 Jun, 2016 @ 11:50am
Maybe you could add a single thruster and a timer, and turn the thruster on to max power for a short while periodically, so that the harder obstacles can be overcome.
uoowuo 25 Jun, 2016 @ 11:48am
Great idea and I guess it probably works on other bodies, but not on Moon. It couldn't really take on the steep slopes, and I guess the whole propulsion method may be unable to.

I tried adding longer and longer light armor spikes to it, in 6 cardinal directions, both with a longer axis and uniformly, and it helped just a little. Turning up gyro torque on all 3 axes to the maximum seems to give it quite a bit more bouncing power, to the point where I had a spiked version of mine get back into my crater and basically... attack my base. However, they still don't really move around much in lunar conditions, there needs to be a way to grip the surface better.

You could theoretically make huge spiked versions of these, perhaps even large ship versions, but it kinda defeats the purpose and makes them hard to manufacture.

[NCF] LastWilliam13 You should check out mod called : autopilot, radar and military systems
parkasever  [author] 18 Jun, 2016 @ 6:17pm
UPDATE 1 is here: it features LESS parts, better rolling and steering. The prospector will now stay closer to where it is released. Happy prospecting!
commie._.tears 18 Jun, 2016 @ 12:40pm
Oh my god. Another example of how in the future of space engineers, people will no longer have to even control their fighters. They just sit at their house making bigger, better ships
Auren 18 Jun, 2016 @ 8:16am
Nice. In addition these make great target practice ;)
WOLFFIRE117 18 Jun, 2016 @ 7:54am
nice invention
parkasever  [author] 18 Jun, 2016 @ 7:12am
@Gaulam / Yes. The only thing that can stop them are deep pits with no way out. Slopes are generally not a problem - up or down. Try it.
Gaularn 18 Jun, 2016 @ 5:57am
I'm curious. Does it have an anti-torque for particularly steep downhills? I foresee losing a few to mountainous terrain that gets them rolling too fast and causes violent bouncing.
I CAN EXPLAIN 16 Jun, 2016 @ 8:20pm
Its adorable, in it's own dopey sort of way. I'll take 10.
parkasever  [author] 16 Jun, 2016 @ 2:22am
@The Miner / Depends on terain. Sometimes it gets stuck in very deep pits or rocks. It's a robot though so it will never give up trying to get out. And compared to wheels and thrusters nothing is cheaper and more reliable than rolling propulsion for such a menial task as ore prospecting. The idea is to go as cheap as possible and just make a spare one if you lose it.
TheWorkingMan43 16 Jun, 2016 @ 1:52am
question about your rolling bot, does it get stuck in holes or by rocks? maybe a new version with wheels or thrusters? incased of corse for protection.
Whatever 15 Jun, 2016 @ 10:48pm
Drones and robots are the same thing... This can be purviewed as a drone.
A Dang Rougarou 15 Jun, 2016 @ 8:34pm
This is GENIOUS.
StaticExile404 15 Jun, 2016 @ 7:00pm
this is absolutely F*cking amazing
Silent Hawk 15 Jun, 2016 @ 6:14pm
hey buddy, i have an idea for a drone carrier, can i design it? i wanna make it so i can get alot of followers to encourage me to play more often and post ships more often, i already have an idea for the carrier, and ill show u my workshop to prove im probably worthy, PLEASE LET ME DESIGN THEM!!! :)
Raven4K 15 Jun, 2016 @ 5:12pm
yeppers he has skill :P
BeanSlinger419 15 Jun, 2016 @ 1:38pm
what about a drone carrier
Wing Egg Elf 15 Jun, 2016 @ 12:46pm
Proof of the adage "Perfection is achieved, not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing more to take away."
<Insert name here> 15 Jun, 2016 @ 12:10pm
this hits the sweet spot:steamhappy:
System1024 15 Jun, 2016 @ 12:08pm
This really shows the community.
People make shit like the giant ships with rotor mounted panels on the walls and decorations, to do something a little drone like this could do cheaper, faster, more efficently.
Thatoneplayer 15 Jun, 2016 @ 12:02pm
As Monsieur Happy Bundle of Sticks said, You exemplified Freeman Dyson's saying "A good engineer is a person who makes a design that works with as few original ideas as possible" almost perfectly.
Tazu 15 Jun, 2016 @ 11:07am
Just Perfect
Zilch 15 Jun, 2016 @ 10:59am
Holy shit that is so hot.
Diseased Penis 15 Jun, 2016 @ 10:06am
As few parts as possible, no new ideas, absolute efficiency.

From an engineering perspective, you nailed it.
shaddywoohooman 15 Jun, 2016 @ 10:05am
Most simple design I've ever seen. Nice
