Excellent puzzle. I wasted a quite a bit of time trying to do it the wrong way, then realised there’s another (i.e. correct!) way that is elegant and works every time, as opposed to relying on chance – big thumbs up.

Beautiful puzzle!!! I don't know if I would have been able to complete this one without hint 4 ... even though you suggested with your intro room that the weighted cube has to be destroyed once to make room for a new one. Anyhow, thanks for this map!

It was no concern, plus as I did in my own puzzle, I used the ceiling as well to line it up. That replay is one I hit it perfectly, it doesn't show the half a dozen times I missed. Really, your puzzle is very good, I just wish I was better at placing cubes on the weighted buttons (I do ok on the cube and ball buttons, since the tend to cradle the item). Please don't take my lack of coordination with video games as a critism to your puzzle. It was more a critism of myself.
sekti  [author] 2 Jul, 2012 @ 4:35pm
That surprises me, because dropping cubes on buttons with funnels is a technique that you use in the solution to your own chamber. Its just a different button type and the funnel is controlled in a different way. Well I guess it's the small things that make the difference. I can't do anything about it. Thanks anyway for stating your concern.
mechtakendall 2 Jul, 2012 @ 4:12pm
My solution was the same as yours, I just kept rolling the redirection cube off the button. Just couldn't get the timing right. I must have spent 20 minutes on just that alone. Yeah, I suck, lol. I've found weighted buttons have a tendency for that to happen, but I also understand that is what needs to be used there. It was a great puzzle, I just suck at placing cubes with funnels in intended locations.
sekti  [author] 2 Jul, 2012 @ 3:21pm
The indended solution does not require anything that I would consider an extraordinary placement skill. Can you tell me what it is in particular that you found hard to perform? Did you watch the solution video? If you have found a very different solution I may want to get rid of it.
mechtakendall 2 Jul, 2012 @ 2:54pm
Definitely one of the hardest I've done. I had the puzzle figured out long before I solved it, I just lack the placement skills needed, and had to keep repeating a process over and over. Otherwise, a great map, very challenging. Difficulty 8/10 Design 7/10
sekti  [author] 26 Jun, 2012 @ 9:50pm
@Distant: This should now be impossible. I raised the wall button one block. This should also fix an exploit pointed out by XLR8br before.
@o+=: What really puzzles me more than the puzzles is where everyone seems to have learned cube tossing. Thats not the clean and noble inside-the-box puzzle solving style GLaDOS taught you guys. ;-)
Well, since you are not the first one, I guess the puzzle really needs protection against people that are less clumsy than myself and able to perform these tricks.

The area below the first fizzler is now flattened. I guess nobody can throw it up there now.
Thanks for the comments and sorry for taking so much time to fix this.
o+= 26 Jun, 2012 @ 11:16am
Difficulty 8/10
Fun 7/10

Completed this one yesterday with the cube throwing technique at first and then after reading the comments it became obvious this wasn't the intended solution. So I had another go today and completed as you intended.

The intended solution is a thinker and works nicely and it's a shame that most people seem to be solving this using unintentional methods.
Distant 6 Jun, 2012 @ 10:17am
I found an additional unintended solution. If you stack one cube on top of the other at the wall button, the button will trigger without needing the funnel to push the cube into it. A square of water under the button will fix this without making the puzzle impossible.

A very nice map. Small, simple, and the intended solution just looks cool. I enjoyed watching it work as much as solving it. I have a couple maps of my own that could stand some scrutiny if you have time. I try my best to make sure there's no bypass solution, but a player with a portal gun is a hard thing to contain.
Timoteeei 31 May, 2012 @ 2:25pm
The main key to the fulfillment of such fling is the space key :D and of course several attempts to realize it.
sekti  [author] 31 May, 2012 @ 2:04pm
Oh, that kind of "fling". Thats exactly what Sheridan.Vespo said yesterday. Didn't know there where so many athletes out there, you might wanna start a tossing competition.
I guess I can lower the area in front of the first fizzler. That should do, at least until one of you guys perfects your tossing skills even further.

And as for: "my solution not so complicated :D".
For you perhaps. I just tried to throw that cube two blocks high and realised that that kind of thing is far beyond my skill. :-P
Timoteeei 31 May, 2012 @ 1:36pm
@sekti, maybe u should raise this glass platform even higher
Timoteeei 31 May, 2012 @ 1:33pm
@sekti, I can, without any portals :D
dowload demo [dl.dropbox.com]
sekti  [author] 31 May, 2012 @ 9:24am
@Timoteeei: You cannot do that in the current version, can you? Since May 24, there is not enough room for two portals on the floor. Or could you somehow squeze them on one panel?
Timoteeei 31 May, 2012 @ 12:13am
Hey, i just fling the weighted cube on the glass platform. So my solution not so complicated :D

Great mindfuck puzzle!
sekti  [author] 30 May, 2012 @ 11:26am
Thanks for testing.
For me cube throwing was never part of the universe just as portal tunneling in Portal 1 is something I would consider "cheating". I guess anyone who uses it knows precisely well that he is bypassing the actual puzzle. Since elevating the glass plattform would have a negative effect on the visibility of the lower buttons from the upper button, I don't intend to change that.

What part of the solution do you think needs "careful calibration"?
It would be good to know what testers consider hard to do, perhaps I can do something to make it easier.
.sheridan .vespo 30 May, 2012 @ 10:27am
Ok, I figured out, how you want things to be done. It is an interesting solution, which does require careful calibration, but after a few tries I could do it right almost every time. This concept is not much unlike the first big room of my level Powerhouse .
I don't know whether it is possible to use formatting in descriptions, but you might want to but each hint in a separate spoiler tag.

I don't know how much is possible without opening up the level to ninja solutions, but maybe you could get some extra portalable surfaces in there?
.sheridan .vespo 30 May, 2012 @ 10:04am
Hello sekti,

since you took so much time reviewing my map, I thought I would go ahead and do the same for you.
After first play: I solved it using a cube toss which you probably didn't intend, but it is still possible. The fix to this problem is to raise the entire glass platform by one square and adjust the rest accordingly.
I haven't found the intended solution, but I will try again and report back to you.

Yours,
Sheridan

I cannot find your screenshot but I heard of that bug in PeTI.
Konqi #noteamplay 29 May, 2012 @ 12:45pm
I found another quite funny way to solve your map. =)
You go upwards, place the cube on the button and place a portal through the gap between the wall an the glass. (just one pixel)
I put the screenshot into my collection.(seemed to be the eseast way to upload it)

sekti  [author] 26 May, 2012 @ 5:41am
@XLR8br: Thanks for the video. But since the cube placement is difficult I think I'll ignore this issue for the time being. I would not like to have the buttons closer to the wall for other reasons.
@Kloppstock: I fixed the issue/solution found by you, by the way.

I can't stress it enough: You two have been a great help!
XLR8br 24 May, 2012 @ 4:30pm
I stopped watching your solution as soon as I saw it was different from mine and now that I replayed I realized how amazing your intended solution is! Now sekti, turns out it's still possible to remove the cube from the button using the funnel but you must carefully place the cube before: http://youtu.be/43yPhXwRKRs
sekti  [author] 24 May, 2012 @ 9:11am
I see. I didn't think of that and will try do make that impossible as well. Thanks a lot for your help!
[The longer this thread goes on the more I learn the following:
1.) A good puzzle designer must be good at seeing alternate routes.
2.) I am a really shitty puzzle designer in this regard.
3.) Alternate routes are an especially big concern if the puzzle designer tried to force a rather oscure solution.]
Konqi #noteamplay 24 May, 2012 @ 7:28am
SPOILER
OK, I will discribe my solution: I do the same lik you to get the weighted cube. then I go upwords and put the rflective cube on th Button which deactivates the first barrier. After that I put the weighted cube on the white floor next to the deactivated barrier. I go upwords and place two portals next to the cube. Then I jump into one of them. During going up and down I grab the cube and put him on the upper edge. Now the weighted cube is on the upper floor.
Now I place the portal which can only be placed from downstairs and use the blue spiral to get upstairs. (the barrier is deactivated by the reflective cube). Then I place the missing
portal, take a new reflective cube and drop him into the spiral. the rest is clear...
Hope you understand, but this is more easy then uploading a video. =)
sekti  [author] 23 May, 2012 @ 10:53pm
@XLR8br: Ah, that is a nice solution that is a lot simpler and a lot more obvious than what I had in mind. Really embarassing that I did not think of this one myself.
Getting that out should be easy, though. Thanks a lot!
@Kloppstock: Resolution does not matter, and no, steam does not allow you to upload videos.
XLR8br 23 May, 2012 @ 10:11pm
OK so I replayed your map and my solution is different from yours. I was confident this time was intended but I see you have some tricks under your sleeve! Here's the link (will remove later) http://youtu.be/GBIRrUN8180
Konqi #noteamplay 23 May, 2012 @ 3:09pm
Is it possible to upload the file directly on steam?
Should I use a resolution of 600x800 or doesn't it matter?
sekti  [author] 23 May, 2012 @ 1:25pm
And there I was thinking I finally managed to eliminate all the alternate solutions :-p
I would appreciate, if you tell or show me what you did.

The easiest thing to create something close to a video is probably to type "record myDemo" in the console, then do your solution, then type "stop" in the console and upload the file MyDemo.dem that will be located in Steam\steamapps\common\portal 2\portal2.
If you want to make a "real" video you can use http://taksi.sourceforge.net/ for example which is what I used. Some knowledge about codecs and programs like virtual dub is helpful though. There may be other programs out there that are easier to use.
Konqi #noteamplay 23 May, 2012 @ 1:00pm
How to make a video? ;) Is there any option in steam?
Konqi #noteamplay 23 May, 2012 @ 12:54pm
I watched your solution video, and I used another way to solve it. Maybe I will post a video, if I get managed.
Konqi #noteamplay 23 May, 2012 @ 12:48pm
Very nice map. Not easy at all. Took me some time, but enjoyed it :)
I think it's lagging a little, but doesn't matter.
sekti  [author] 23 May, 2012 @ 1:35am
The comment of the guy with his solution video somehow vanished. I hope I didn't accidentally click any delete button.

Well, by now I made a video of my intended solution with the updated version of the map where the exploit of said guy with his video does not work any more.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kEgX6ocgAUw

If you find solutions that differ fundamentally from this one, please let me know.
sekti  [author] 22 May, 2012 @ 9:26pm
Thanks alot for your video! Your solution is very clever but I had something else in mind that actually "funnels redirection". The weighted cube is not supposed to be moved up there. I updated my map and now this step is hopefully impossible.

Also, I moved a vital part of the intended solution further into the center of the chamber (I hope this does not provoke cube-tossing).
sekti  [author] 22 May, 2012 @ 11:41am
@Killerclown: Would be good to know what you did. What the intended solution is is hinted to in the description. If the hints don't point to your solution, it's probably a ninja path I should eliminate.
=IS=Killerclown/Clem 21 May, 2012 @ 5:05pm
no idea if what i did was the intended solution.. i just got annoyed with it and said ba! im doing this.. ... and it worked
sekti  [author] 21 May, 2012 @ 12:31pm
Thanks for the bug report. I will fix that cube dropper issue as soon as I'm back on my other computer (where the file is located).
Anduin 21 May, 2012 @ 10:30am
solved it in about 20 minutes. Very nice for a "First Time" Map.
Tabarnacos 20 May, 2012 @ 9:47pm
Very challenging map i realy like the way you use the cube+dropper cube :) One little glitch i had when i use the switch to get the reflex cube i was right under the dropper and the cube got stuck unable to call another one i had to restart the level. give the dropper a little more room or change the switch on the other side. Thumbs up i love it!

Try mine and let me know what you think.

This one had me stumped for about an hour, but I finally figured it out without hints. Very nice puzzle!

This is my first map with the editor (and I have no idea how many people I actually reach now that I marked the map as "public"). Comments are very welcome.
