I tried updating the TF2 stuff ... A long time ago, to be exact. SFM is complaining that the maps are compressed using an unsupported format.

when I load the session the stage has the pink and black checkerboard pattern. Is there a way to fix this in the sdk, etc.?

Then it's an issue on your end, not mine.
It clearly says that TF2 has to be manually updated through SFM

No but when you load them in and right click on the red curtains you can change the skin to blu.
