My thoughts 4 years after:

Sadly, Civ 5 is not optimized for this map size. Maps of this size become unstable during gameplay. Some major limitations include the RAM limits caused by Civ 5 being a 32-bit application and an issue where a single civ having more than 250 cities causes city captures to take many minutes or longer to process. Increasing the minimum distance between cities and introducing strict unit supply limits could improve stability, but it's just too damn big. Likewise, this map is not a good candidate for transfer to Civ 6 because that game ALSO has stability issues on maps of this size with recent DLCs.

Det värsta bergatroll 28 Feb, 2018 @ 1:53am
Great map! Just watch out in which folder you are putting it (See description or Tyrone's comment). Also you should go for full amount of Civs and City States and use some Mod like Barbarian Spam fix or somehow magically ban Barbarians ;)

please next time be more specific in the installation process because a lot of us are confused.

the map name is "Giant US" and should be in the "Additional Maps" tab

just a thought, but i think that the Ria Grande would be a good addition for a 'navigable'/coastal tile river,as it can help civs that spawn in the SW US and such expand and invade via sea, making domination easier(kinda) as you dont need to spend X production that could be used for units on settlers to get a coastal city.

@dudeorama Try loading the map without any mods active. If you still wish to play with mods, just don't activate the mod. If it's in your maps folder, it should still load. This will make it spawn with a greater amount of luxuries.

If that still doesn't work, use Really Advanced Setup. With the mod active, you can add, say, 100 extra copies of strategic resources and they will show up. If you want denser resources, just make the count higher, though keep in mind that the map has over 10,000 land tiles for these resources to spawn on.

✪OliveGargen 💢💢💢💢 13 May, 2017 @ 3:29pm
@dudeorama ohhhh thank you! works now :)
Mr New Vegas 12 May, 2017 @ 11:31am
ok so, go to your Civ 5 file, look for the file called MODS.
enter that and find this map, should eb claled giant united states or something
take the .civ5map file, leave the other one there
drag the map back to the civ 5 folder
then from there drag it into the maps folder

aerational 20 Dec, 2016 @ 11:36pm
I haven't played this but I want to say how glad I am someone made a map with an actual usable river. Such an absent part of this series.
Spencer Bender 11 Dec, 2016 @ 7:15am
Map didn't show up after activating the mod. I copied the map file to the map folder, like descriped above. Still no map. After deactivating and activating again it's now there. Name is "GiantUS".
🥇 Xaxoon 🥇 5 Nov, 2016 @ 1:09pm
i dunno why, but there are NO resources al all on that map. NOTHING. deinstall, sad it looked promising to me...
Mufflertape 20 Oct, 2016 @ 8:43pm
That will also allow you to show the ozarks better and the ouachita mountains better too since those are considered the interior highlands for a reason, more feedback on that could be a line of hills simulating crowleys ridge as well, its a pretty significant geological structure along the mississippi that can add some flavor as well. Lots of marshes after the Arkansas river joins the mississippi as well.
Mufflertape 20 Oct, 2016 @ 8:37pm
You should prob make the Arkansas river be navigable considering its a major source of water for the Mississippi. Unless you opposed for balance reasons which is meh etc.
Saltshaker 19 Oct, 2016 @ 6:19pm
can somebody make a manifest destiny scenario with modded and vanilla dlc natives? that would be epic.
Nexxarian 14 Oct, 2016 @ 9:38pm

Civmaster54 13 Sep, 2016 @ 1:07pm
This would be perfect for a civil war scenario
Manitizer 11 Sep, 2016 @ 10:12pm
Are you doing any more maps? I think a historical Giant Pangea would be really neat.
Jive Turkey 5 Sep, 2016 @ 5:19am
I look forward to benchmarking my PC with this map! It's everything I wanted in America as an American. I will build that great wall along the Southern boarder.
Osariik 5 Sep, 2016 @ 12:35am
You should make a TSL scenario if you can
Nota 4 Sep, 2016 @ 4:00pm
AMERICA!
Fuck yeah!
Scorvetta Prime 2 Sep, 2016 @ 10:54am
OK, great, thanks so much for the tip and wow, nice PC lmao. Keep up the good work then and I will try that to. Thanks and I didn't know about Multi core thing, I need to try that out also. Great map tho! :)
Mark P 1 Sep, 2016 @ 10:56pm
Scorvetta, the lag is your hardware struggling to cope.

This happens when you reveal the whole map as it is trying to load / render the ENTIRE HUGE map at once.

After the map, terrain, units, features, geometry etc has finished loading (face it there is a LOT on this map) your performance should be back to normal, depending on your hardware.

I am using an 8 core CPU, 32gb ram, SSD etc and I still get a lag when I reveal this map at once.

It justs taxes your hardware big time until it has displayed EVERYTHING on this huge, awesome map.

PS - if you play with lots of AI's on this map, your performance may be significantly reduced / impacted later game (when there are lots of units), but again this depends on your hardware.

KEEP IN MIND YOU CAN OPTIMISE CIV 5 FOR MULTI CORE CPU'S in the config file.
Scorvetta Prime 30 Aug, 2016 @ 4:59pm
I want to say I love this map, the sheer size and scope of it, Though why am I lagging so bad as soon as we get satelittes and reveal the whole map, omg I begin to lag and move so slow, is there anyway to fix that? Thanks
