Improved Containers

I have noticed now that if ANY storage container has the rename icon greyed out, items will not be retained! Just thought I would mention it - its not random - its easy to tell which storage containers will/will not keep items!
xelus 10 May @ 12:48am
Love the item retaining feature!:starite:! it strangely doesn't work for Frackin' Uni.. toolbox.. and very few other ones.. I just find the 64 slots the most practical and not so over the top
AgentKirin 27 Apr @ 5:13pm
Avali containers that have been colorized don't retain their coloration, with or without contents. If picked up with contents, it'll show the color in the name of the item, but will still place in default color. Colorized non-storage items do keep their coloration when picked back up, so I figured IC might be the cause.

Is there a way to have tooltips for named containers? Even if I need another mod? It's difficult for me to remember where each chest is located.

Thanks
Chud 18 Aug, 2024 @ 1:20pm

Akinakira 5 Mar, 2024 @ 9:28am
this was such a nice change when playing
Nexus 16 Jan, 2024 @ 2:42pm
this should be compatible with Enhanced Storage
Heliaboi 3 Jan, 2024 @ 5:51am
is it safe if i add it without starting a new save
OOORANGE 19 Nov, 2023 @ 7:23pm
good ~
AgentKirin 14 Oct, 2023 @ 7:13pm
Saturnians and Elithian Races are both listed as supported, but I've had containers from both still drop their contents when mined. Idk if it's ALL of them, but I know I've had this problem with the Thaumoth shiplocker and Mage Icebox, as well as the Centensian chests.
Atoombom007 11 Sep, 2023 @ 3:08am
Thanks for creating this! It's something that should have been included in the game by default. Life's so much easier now!
Dr_Shadox 2 Sep, 2023 @ 7:48pm
lol you dont have to change .lua for that @Davoker
just add
"itemAgeMultiplier" : 0.0
and change category to "fridgeStorage" in the .object.

lua file are very sensitive and ask knowledge for not break everything

also you dont need to repak a mod for make it work , keep it as a yellow folder work perfectly too...
KeKeKe 2 Sep, 2023 @ 9:32am
God, I needed this so much :runecrying:
Dogwater 28 Mar, 2023 @ 11:50am
Really surprised this wasnt a feature in the base game tbh
Davoker 17 Mar, 2023 @ 3:47am
Unpack the mod, go to the "scripts/v6" folder, open the "improvedcontainers.lua" file with a text editor, find the section:

["fridgeNoSpoil"] = false -- Refrigerated food doesn't spoil in inventory

Change "false" to "true".

Done, the food will no longer spoil while in the fridge in your inventory.

Then repack the mod again and put it in your "mods" folder in the game directory, don't forget to "unsubscribe the mod here, otherwise you will have a conflict for having the same mod 2 times.

NOTE: This only happens when the fridge is in your inventory and has food in it, but if the fridge is placed (as decoration) in your house/ship, it will work as expected.

It is NOT a bug, it is "intentional" by the mod author, the solution is the one I put above, a simple file edit.

If you don't know how to find the mods you download from the workshop, and how to unpack and repack them, you'll have to search google, or "guides" here on steam there should be something too.
Jatopian 13 Feb, 2023 @ 5:51pm
Please make it the default that items in fridges do NOT spoil. It was a real pain when all my food suddenly started rotting and I couldn't figure out why.

The problem even persisted after I installed the Immortal Food mod, because you use your own special rotting functions! C'mon, that's just mean!

Oh, and I haven't even talked about the search and renaming features yet! Renaming makes it nice when you have TONS of containers and you cannot keep up with which contains or is supposed to contain what. I like to use it with fridges so I know when I run out of a specific ingredient or where I need to store said ingredients. As for the search bar, I personally haven't used it much, but I was glad it was there the few times I did.
ChaosContrl 3 Sep, 2022 @ 8:40am
It's simple, it adds just a handful of functionalities, but my gosh they are such a welcome addition to the vanilla experience! Though perhaps it would be perfect if there was a way to configure the mod such that containers can either drop or keep inventory when broken down.
ChaosContrl 3 Sep, 2022 @ 8:40am
I did notice that sometimes the buttons for sorting and stacking are not responsive at first, only on the 2nd attempt, but I think it's because I try to sort and stack things too quickly as soon as I open a container xD but if the buttons don't work when pressed once, try pressing them again. Of course, you won't see anything change if it's already sorted or stacked, mind you.
ChaosContrl 3 Sep, 2022 @ 8:39am
I've done a full playthrough of Starbound, from beginning to beating The Ruin. I can say that it works amazingly well with this mod! Being able to quickly store my inventory on my ship and bases without the need to manually drag & drop (or shift click) each item is fantastic Being able to only store specific items into containers for better organization without sifting through my inventory every time is a blessing. Being able to quickly sort ALL items inside a container feels amazing, makes it all look so organized and easy to access. And of course, while I think it borders a bit on the OP side of things, the ability for containers to keep their inventories when broken really makes it much easier when upgrading storage.

Heya!
Would it be possible to get support in there for the Indix race mod? They add a couple of chests that are rather nice looking, but also aren't supported yet. If not, that's fine, but I thought it worth asking. :)

Quick question. would you consider this mod balanced? it kind defeats the purpose of having to go back and forth to gather more resources. and having any containers placed anywhere.

Mod support
To support mods and new containers, patch files must be manually created.
While I am not able to actively maintain patch files for mods that I do not use, you can just report back if you find any containers that need patches.

Currently supported:
Argonian, Avali, Elithian Races Mod / Avikan, Bunnykin, Callistan, Draconis, Frackin' Universe,...

Hi guys ~ does this mod work on FU ?
GeekyRaptorStudios 1 Apr, 2022 @ 6:00am
anyone feel like making a patch for this and the other storage mod? I think it was called better storage, but I could be wrong, but having these two work side by side would be fantastic!
CompassionateCohort 20 Dec, 2021 @ 5:01pm
So it's quick stacking things that stack but not putting coffee beans in a container that already has coffee beans in it and all other slots empty. Is this due to that function causing issues with other stuff?
Arumbi 9 Nov, 2021 @ 2:40pm
saltananda, i just rapidly open and slap that loot all button, i wish there was a "loot nearby containers" button
kmarkkush, i also wish for a "quickstack to nearby containers" button, for my sorting to not be botched as all hell
Saltananda 21 Aug, 2021 @ 5:42pm
On the contrary, is there a mod that allows you to slurp up all the loot from containers as you run along?
kmarkkush 20 Aug, 2021 @ 11:46am
Out of curiosity, is there a mod that allows you to dump all items from a your inventory to a storage container? FU does not have that, or I am blind.
Consistently Awful 15 Aug, 2021 @ 10:49am
Works fine for me, this is a solid choice of a mod I say.
Cables323 14 Aug, 2021 @ 5:13pm
Haven't seen any bugs despite 4 years with no updates. Working perfectly on 1.4.4
Mozz 23 May, 2021 @ 9:06am
Needs an update.

Rotten meat lover 12 Dec, 2020 @ 6:56am
is there plan to put other language support in the rename function? :3 if there are, pls let me know, thx!
Chronos "Salty" Pliskin 7 Nov, 2020 @ 8:18am
This mod could really use an update.
Chronos "Salty" Pliskin 23 Sep, 2020 @ 1:21pm
Could you make a version or patch that works with Enhanced Storage? Also, might need a patch as it seems to have a problem with FU.
A-Vladimir 2 Apr, 2020 @ 7:46am
@davoker i have been using refrigerated and i don't have that problem? maybe it's just specific fridges.
Davoker 2 Apr, 2020 @ 7:18am
A doubt, a user here comments that it works in 1.4 but:

"This mod works on 1.4, but fridge won't keep foods"

This is so? I use several refrigerators to conserve food, there is no solution to this problem? I have not tried the mod, but before I would like to know if this has been solved, thanks!
DONTTOUCHME ♡ 9 Mar, 2020 @ 9:03am
does this mod work with the clear & close chests mod? really useful cuz i find it annoying to have to click take all then x
Rick 16 Feb, 2020 @ 1:28am
Oh geez. My legs are really long and strong but I find them a bit ugly... I guess I just won't use them anymore! Problem solved!
Light Maker 1 Feb, 2020 @ 5:20am
@wa.luigi.time Just don't use it
Rick 25 Jan, 2020 @ 2:30am
Is there a way to turn persistent storage off? It seems a little too powerful for me...
R4skall 11 Jan, 2020 @ 7:27pm
@IcyNightMedic make sure you dont also have enhanced storage, having both will always result in this issue
IcyNightMedic 31 Dec, 2019 @ 8:00pm
With this mod installed, I wasn't able to open crates/chests anymore without crashing.
Neverward 21 Nov, 2019 @ 9:11pm
@Rtma This mod is slightly more slim then Enhanced Storage, I prefer ES because it allows me to color code my boxes, which is nice! I think it has a few more features. I especially like the ES vendor and crafting system. (I love anything that lets me have more animated crafting tables to place in my base)
SpiderOwl 10 Nov, 2019 @ 3:56pm
storage matter ID?
