When you plant the crops next to each other, they'll stay that way but when they grow, the crops next to them will become seeds again.
I have no recollection. It was a mod from the Starbound forums. I made the character to build test designs for farms.

Probably not made by me, but you are free to figure out how to do so, or ask other mod authors. This mod is extremely compact and easy to replicate - for the most part, all you need to do is unpack the files, copy existing files into an appropriate folder, and rename it.
