military live issent all about military in every situation out of actions they need to relax so yeah..
atleast i know a person in the navy and he works alot but once he has free time drives around in a nice BMW x.x
100 wood is a nice start to get a small house around a geothermal source, although its a very small house ;-)
What about just adding the stonecutter research, so you could build a stonecrafter very early and build your base out of stone, in an icy world?
Although my soldiers will die through the winter.. (not enough food/animals to hunt). What biomes are suggested? Right now I have no idea how to play in icy worlds - with only 100 steel its hard to build thermal power, heaters and indoor plants...
