Canned Food

For a canned food recipe, I suggest using the nutritional value rather than the quantity of raw materials.
The Vanilla Plants Expanded mod contains Chickpeas. It has the lowest nutritional value, but the largest yield.

dude update your mod
BeanSlinger419 21 Dec, 2017 @ 5:03am

Ramachandra 8 Dec, 2017 @ 6:21am
Hi. Any plan to update it to A18?
教科书的风格 30 Sep, 2017 @ 10:15pm
Could you Update it to 0.17?
gamer nerd 23 Sep, 2017 @ 8:45am

Maybe
1 steel + 10 veg/meat -> 5 canned stuff
would be more plausible from an economic viewpoint?

Suggest you to publish your mod here, so it could be maintained by the game developers:

https://ludeon.com/forums/index.php?topic=29505.0

It /must/ become vanilla.
hussar 23 Jan, 2017 @ 8:03pm
Is there a way for the food to retain its type (rather than just meat/vegetable/meal), it just doesn't spoil anymore? That would be incredible for the Vegetable Garden mod. You could, for example, can tomatoes to later use in the pizza recipe. Just asking--I enjoy the mod.
Wundur Women 20 Jan, 2017 @ 8:55am
omggggggggg this looks soooo gooood
Starfoth The Burgundy Silk Rug 15 Jan, 2017 @ 12:05pm
I'm not saying anything against the mod, it's incredible in principle, it's just the cost gets to me
Starfoth The Burgundy Silk Rug 15 Jan, 2017 @ 12:05pm
The steel is an outrageous price and not worth it
Minus well grow corn and make pemmican; overwhelmingly cheaper
76561198321251055 15 Jan, 2017 @ 11:00am
The price is fine. You are not taking game balance intoo account. You have the advantage of making food that will not spoil for a very long time, if ever. Being able to sell them for a higher price just makes them more advantageous.
fox_kirya 30 Dec, 2016 @ 12:14pm
And I'd like to localize your mod. How can I do it?
fox_kirya 30 Dec, 2016 @ 11:39am
Btw, one unit of steel (for can) costs $2. So, filled cans should cost $12-15.
fox_kirya 30 Dec, 2016 @ 11:37am
Man, your mod is great (really!), but you're mocking economics. For example, one unit of rice costs $2. One unit of canned vegetables is made of 5 units of rice. It means, that canned vegetables should cost at least $10, ideally $12 (added value). But it costs $5. Could you fix it, please.
General Jack Ripper 26 Dec, 2016 @ 11:52am
1 can for 1 steel? It seems a bit expensive. You can make a wall chunk for only 5 steel, I think a food can is a very tiny fraction of that size. How about 1 steel for 10 cans?
TurtleCat 22 Dec, 2016 @ 8:39pm
THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!!! for updating! :steamhappy:
Vandheer 28 Nov, 2016 @ 6:16am
great idea! will try the mod now
ORION 14 Nov, 2016 @ 1:39pm
This mod will be great in alpha 16 when you can send caravans and attack other colonies, these journeys will need plenty of food that won't spoil
Barredok 14 Oct, 2016 @ 12:14am
Hahaha. Combined with the Soylent Green mod I no longer have food or cannibalism debuff problems. Every visitor is now a good food source. I even have a roof bomb in their guest rooms lol.
Tentacool 3 Oct, 2016 @ 11:29am
May I reccomend an additional mod to craft packaged survival means from 1 plasteal and 10 (or X) food resource.
goldenkangal 26 Sep, 2016 @ 2:01pm
I have a bug where all vanilla items can not be stacked. other than that the mod is useful.
srauon  [author] 3 Sep, 2016 @ 1:21am
Sure, go check out ludeon forum and search for "Canned Food". I had to manually revert the changes, since I don't have the mod for A14 any longer. If there are errors in A14, let me know.
kanid99 2 Sep, 2016 @ 10:24am
Some of us are still playing A14 - can you provide a link also for the older version ?
hagnat 30 Aug, 2016 @ 4:06pm
hey, good luck with uni. And thanks for your work on this mod
Fefo 30 Aug, 2016 @ 4:44am
@srauon, thank you for this wonderful mod. It's understandable(good luck at uni, btw.) but really sad to see that you're moving away from this. With that said, I would like to help you in any way I can. I mean, I just started modding in RimWorld, but would love to keep this project alive.
[EASY] PotatoeTater 29 Aug, 2016 @ 4:42pm
Thank you for all your support keeping this mod alive. I know all of us would love to see it working for alpha 15, and then if you have time and decided to we support you adding some exciting features.
srauon  [author] 29 Aug, 2016 @ 9:01am
Hello guys, thanks for your suggestions. I never expected this mod to get almost 2k subscribers. Though I am afraid to tell you that I probably won't have time to continue adding more contents in this mod, because I am beginning to study at the university. I will do my best to update to the newest version, but I need to put my real life things in highest priority. Hope you guys understand. <3
[BLA]Unmortal 20 Aug, 2016 @ 7:50am
Like the mod gone try it soon.

owh yeah make the cans recyclebale

or add a metal compactor to the game (compacts metal waste into blocks for remelting in furnance)

would maybe be fun to make a soda machine too.
that used soda cans ofcourse with things from the world as taste
srauon  [author] 15 Aug, 2016 @ 4:40am
Unfortunately not yet, Hagnat. Eating or using canned food as an ingredient won't give you cans back.
hagnat 14 Aug, 2016 @ 2:50pm
i still not played with this mod, but i already have a question: after eating from the can / using its contents as ingredients, do you get a Used Can or some Metal back ? so you can also recycle some of the metal and make more cans
Pötatø dëë shrîmpéé! 9 Aug, 2016 @ 4:38pm
I think it'd be awesome to expand on this for medieval-level colonies, have pretty much the same mechanic but preservatives in glass jars instead! Love the mod otherwise keep up the good work.
Chuck Sneed 9 Aug, 2016 @ 12:34pm
The shelf life should be 2-3x pemmican imo.
srauon  [author] 8 Aug, 2016 @ 11:38am
Yeah, you can go to ludeon forum and search for "Canned Food".
Husyta 8 Aug, 2016 @ 10:06am
is there any way to download it not via workshop?
Rawsome83 6 Aug, 2016 @ 3:04pm
Might not even need an expiration date, to be perfectly honest. Totally up to you of course :) I'll use it in my next playthrough. Thanks for the answers :)
srauon  [author] 6 Aug, 2016 @ 2:47pm
Canned food doesn't have an expiration date yet. Though I might add this as one of my to-do-list. I can't promise to add it into the game as far as I am concerned.
Rawsome83 6 Aug, 2016 @ 2:31pm
Hmm, that's an interesting choice. I like how you think :) And what's the shelf life of canned food? 4-5 years, or more?
srauon  [author] 6 Aug, 2016 @ 2:24pm
Raw food, but it is split under two catagories: Raw Bad and Raw Tasty. I've placed canned food under Raw Bad, so the colonists first will choose to eat meals, then berries and corn and in the end canned food (and potatoes, rice, etc...).
Rawsome83 6 Aug, 2016 @ 9:18am
Where would you say these rank on the quality list? like raw food -> simple meal -> fine meal -> lavish meal etc. where does it fit, in relation to colonist preferance? Thanks
Zularmas 5 Aug, 2016 @ 10:02am
great mod idea ! Thanks !
nephilimnexus 3 Aug, 2016 @ 4:52am
Awesome!
srauon  [author] 3 Aug, 2016 @ 4:41am
Yes, you can sell these at the bulk goods trader.
nephilimnexus 2 Aug, 2016 @ 10:01pm
Question: Can canned foods be sold to space merchants? I ask this because I've always had trouble getting the need for a beacon to be unroofed with the need for food to be refrigerated. Canning food looks like a good solution to that.
srauon  [author] 1 Aug, 2016 @ 5:29pm
What Shaw said, but I can make the colonists to prefer raw food over canned food in the next update.
Shaw 1 Aug, 2016 @ 1:17pm
@Starfoth just forbid colonists from touching it. Press F
