@Sigurd Yaaaaaaas. XD I learned it before I played, but KSP really drove home those fundies for OrbitMechs XD

wat he said... are they?

Are they off even when moving your ship or only when orbiting?
Warbeard 18 Jun, 2017 @ 2:19pm
@smsf36 If you're in a stable orbit, continuing to add even a small amount of thrust will increase your speed, and thus your altitude, eventually causing you to break planetary orbit and enter a solar orbit. Not ideal. And thats if you're actually stay pointed prograde. If you were firing retrograde, you'll quickly de-orbit and enter the atmosphere. If you're not constantly controlling the heading of your ship, then you'll be doing crazy corkscrews until something awful happens.

TL:DR Constant thrust=constant acceleration=bad for orbit
Wikki 17 Apr, 2017 @ 5:19pm
simpily put, this game is a accidental break of all logic (again to some of you this does not matter, but i am a man of realism)
Wikki 17 Apr, 2017 @ 5:18pm
in reality its more ideal to keep the forward thrust on, it requres less power to build momentum and orbit rather than attempting to resist the gravity of a planet. Also the bottom thrusters being on would only affect the stability a small bit, it would be easier to have them all on all the time as it would provide more control and would allow less energy to be needed to alter direction of the ship, in case of a asteroid or other space object that has both the energy and size to do reasonable damage to the ship...
TheDarkJediKnight 12 Apr, 2017 @ 3:49pm
If anything, only the bottom thusters should be on when idling for stability over orbit reasons.
Though once the ship starts the hyperdrive animation they should shut off since you'll be flying straight, no?

Good idea though.

also keep in mind that what i have said is trying to find the likly truth in the game keep in mind however it is exactly that a game, i posted the following simply because i fail to see why this can make people (like hak) so angry, so i decided to post the likely reason he posted what he did, and then giving reasons (although not correctly expressed by hak) that he is somewhat correct, however the gravity hak, would keep it in orbit around the planet, not only that but the ship has a A.I... nothing like "BARREIING THROUGH SPACE UNCONTROIABIY"(nice spelling btw) would ever happen...
Wikki 8 Feb, 2017 @ 3:08pm
-_- i would like to point out that this mod makes the game even more unrealistic, as if a ship were not constanly moving around the planet the gravity from said planet would be able to get a hold of it, pulling the ship to the surface and end up killing you, i would also like to point out that saying it could run out of fuel is also not well thought out in terms of being an argument, as the ship powers a teleporter which likely needs tons of energy now if you think about it the ship needs a place to store said energy, in the real world we have electeric cars (not entirely but were getting there) this definitly takes place in the time yet to be, as the ship even it in teir 2 (just after repair) it can go anywhere
Wikki 8 Feb, 2017 @ 3:08pm
this means that it does not have power stored the ship but the ship is collecting energy most likely from the sun as it is how we help power the things we put into space in the real world (i understand the the solar energy collected in the real world is not used as fuel, but in the game there are teleporters, your agument is false either way) the fact the teleporters are possible mean that constantly moving a mere hunk of metal in space is nothing, so all of you people still have the right to download this its your option and opinion, however saying that this makes it seem more real is very, very false...

Hak_And_S/ash the ships have gyroscopes to maintain stability, just like real spacecraft. And like Cake64 said, the ship would accelerate if the thrusters were left on, until you ran out of fuel. But by then you would probably be moving very fast and no longer be in orbit.
Cake64 19 Jan, 2017 @ 11:05am
Hak, if a space ship's thrusters were left on all the time it would just keep accelerating until it ran out of fuel.
Hemlock 28 Dec, 2016 @ 12:56am
Ok, Hak, even though the part were you said "THE THRUSTERS ARE SUPPOSED TO BE ON WHEN THE SHIP IS IDIE (idle) BECAUSE IF THEY WERENT THE SHIP WOUID BE BARREIING (barreling) THROUGH SPACE UNCONTROIABIY (uncontrolably)" is correct, the flames wouldn't be visible, also calm your fucking tits rage monster. Fucking hell.

Seems to work on all the custom races I have used and I have around 4 or 5 of them. You should up date your description to say, works with every custom race. The only way it will stop working is if the custom race changes the code of the ship world it's self.

It does not seem likely that there will ever be a problem with this because most races use the base code of the base races.

Hopefully this will lesseon the lag on the ships just a little.

>From wikipedia. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geostationary_orbit#Orbital_stability
When you link something that has litterrally non of the words you said in itin fact it states that sattellites stay in orbit by using electric propulsion in which if you go to that link it doesnt state that you cant see it. From what i speculate i'd assume that its something that turns on and of every so often.
*Yuki* 3 Aug, 2016 @ 10:40am
actually, Im pretty sure, boosters work on very low lvl for perfomance reason (probably, turning them on after long time will use more energy, than keeping dem work)

Ship is located on the geostationary orbit. To maintain it engines of the ship enough to occasionally emit micropulses. These pulses are so rare and weak that is not visible to the eye.

Sorry for my bad english.

But they simulate the engines being on and also orbiting the planet.
