I think they changed because its either 1.Overused or 2.it Sounds more like a machine gun or 3.They wanted to make their own sounds.

Well to be fair, the beta SMG sounds were literally just a stock sound with no modification done to 'em. :B Still cool-sounding nonetheless, just not very unique/distinct.
