Digging through animal tabs mid fight is not ideal.
But don't know anything how rimworld does it but seems to be extremely robust.

But by default, following the master is enabled in vanilla as soon as you train them obediance. Petfollow did the opposite
One question I have is how so I control releasing animals for combat? Or do they always do this of they have the training?
PetFollow does not modify or add textures ON pets. Only adds the command buttons and icons in the animal tab
I ticked on PetFollow.
It turned my existing barrels into white squirrels and when I zoomed out, turned them into skeletons.
But you can download the A14 version from the ludeon forum post (link in the description here). Keep in mind, that the old A14 version still required the Community Core Library
