Someone tried adding me as a friend but unfortunitly I don't really add random people unless I know them, if it was you on another account I'd add you if you told me it was you other than that idk who it was.

yea i saw now, i thought you were talking about HLMV my bad :P
Alex_D #NoWar 8 Sep, 2016 @ 4:30am
The HLMV should update automatically along with the SDK/Authoring Tools. I have downloaded the Crowbar rather recently. Load the model into the Preview tab in the Crowbar, there should be "Game that has the model..." = Left 4 Dead 2, and three buttons below: View, View as replacement and Use in Decompile.

wait are we talking about crowbar or half life model viewer?
Alex_D #NoWar 8 Sep, 2016 @ 4:22am
Mine is Crowbar_2016-02-28_0.34

huh I looked through it and I dont see it, idk im blind or I have a different outdated one

There are two buttons, "View" and "View as replacement". Not sure if the first one is even supposed to work, but the second allows to view custom models.

is that the button i press or are you saying thats the error i get?
Alex_D #NoWar 8 Sep, 2016 @ 3:59am
"View as replacement"
Big Chungy  [author] 8 Sep, 2016 @ 3:57am
i use crowbar too but oddly the only model viewer i can import them to is blender for some odd reason i get some kind of error when i load them up in the half life model viewer
Alex_D #NoWar 8 Sep, 2016 @ 12:15am
I make a screenshot of the model in Garry's Mod. Or recently I started using "Crowbar" to load custom models to the Model Viewer.

before I use to use an online image of the gun and there would be so many colors in the background i had to manually erase arouns the gun and erase the rest of the background and then turn the gun into a white image for the .vtf file and doing it that way left small unerased pixels all around it which made it a very sloppy HUD icon
Big Chungy  [author] 7 Sep, 2016 @ 2:32pm
oh i recently figured out how to port the gun model into blender and I've only did this once but since the background color and the gun color are so different I can go into GIMP 2 and just use the magic laso tool to delete the background and have nothing but the model of the gun left and I just painted over the gun model with white and ta da a new image to be turned into a .vtf file

Interesting. But still too much trouble for a tiny icon, actually.

On the other hand, I am more than willing to fing a good reference picture of a gun (1800-3000px wide), outline it in Flash for maybe several hours, just to shrink it into a 256x64 icon. All the time.

Unless it's something fictional or overly customized. Or lazy.
Big Chungy  [author] 7 Sep, 2016 @ 2:24pm
yea i usually stay with the 64px cause I tried 128px and I swear it made the icon even smaller, I've only seen one method to made a picture HD and it was where you take an image and duplicate it as another layer so they overlap and then take the top layer and use a special blur effect and blur it till theres little to no detail and then have them merged and it somehow makes the blurred image fill in the cracks of the original picture or something like that.
Alex_D #NoWar 7 Sep, 2016 @ 2:20pm
Well, what did you expect from a 64 pixel high rectangle? Even if you make the icon larger, the script will shrink it anyway. Also, my 1280x960 resolution seems to have icons around 48 pixels high, not even using the 64px potential fully.
Big Chungy  [author] 7 Sep, 2016 @ 2:17pm
oh i forgot i have it set to private
Big Chungy  [author] 7 Sep, 2016 @ 2:16pm
Although I have found a better way so they aren't sloppy but I have the problem of when I shrink the image down to fit exactly how the icon has to be I lose quality in the picture and some seem slightly low resolution.
Alex_D #NoWar 7 Sep, 2016 @ 2:16pm
Whoa, whoa, whoa. You didn't steal anything, you sorta saved me some trouble actually. I suggest you "un-private" your profile to get followers easier. More followers equals even more followers, subscriptions and everything.
Big Chungy  [author] 7 Sep, 2016 @ 2:14pm
Oh sorry if I stole it from you, I just make them so I have something to do and they're fun to make. I don't have the best applications to make them (as you can see most of my icon mods have some sloppyiness) so they don't exactly come out as great as everyone else's but hey when the icon is really tiny in l4d2 you can't tell x3
Alex_D #NoWar 7 Sep, 2016 @ 2:09pm
Oh, wow, I almost made one myself.
Big Chungy  [author] 7 Sep, 2016 @ 10:04am
I fixed a file I had forgotten to change, really sorry about that.
