Great mod. Thank you for making it.

Cool mod! I think it might have been bugged in my playthrough. I know this mod was about making gifts of gold less necessary but I straight up just wasn't allowed to give gold in my last game. All it would say is "0 gold for 0 influence" for every option. Regardless though, I think the changes work wonders at making a diplomatic victory a bit more engaging. It could be changed even further though. I was a little dissapointed that progression through the buildings and units would just get you faster production and movement speed. Maybe some more unique stats on the different buidlings and units would make the progression feel less linear. Possibly even a patronage change to better include this new system.

NIce mod !
Saerphantos 3 Jul, 2016 @ 1:34pm
Man, will you translate mod on other languages?
Mogelix (AU) 11 Jun, 2016 @ 2:03am
One sentence.
Make diplomats spread religion to city states.
Gazebo  [author] 17 Feb, 2014 @ 11:59am
Glad you like it! Be sure to download the BNW version if you get that expansion.

Makes sense. I ended up turning gold gifts on but setting them to high. I like that as an option for gaining reputation with a city-state. I just didn't want it to be too easy like it is in vanilla.

Seriously, thanks for making a kickass mod!
Gazebo  [author] 16 Feb, 2014 @ 7:40pm
You can, but that requires editing a lua file, which I don't want to do for compatibility purposes.
Tea 16 Feb, 2014 @ 5:48pm
I assume turning gold gifts off isn't supposed to remove them from the UI. It's just meant to show all zeros? Is there any way to hide those options in the UI?
Gazebo  [author] 17 Jan, 2014 @ 7:42pm
The instructions in the options.sql file make it pretty simple:

--Open Options.sql in the Documents/Sid Meiers Civilization V/MODS/City-State Diplomacy Mod folder.
--Scroll down until you see the following text:

/*
Gold Gifting and Gold-Related Quests with City-States On/Off
1 = Gold Gifts Enabled
2 = Gold Gifts Disabled (Default)
*/

--INSERT INTO CSD (Type, Value)
--VALUES ('GIFT_OPTION', 2);

--To enable gold gifts, change the integer after GIFT_OPTION to '1'
--The final code should look like this:

--Code:
/*
Gold Gifting and Gold-Related Quests with City-States On/Off
1 = Gold Gifts Enabled
2 = Gold Gifts Disabled (Default)
*/

--INSERT INTO CSD (Type, Value)
--VALUES ('GIFT_OPTION', 1);
--Save the file and launch the game!

Gazebo  [author] 6 Dec, 2013 @ 8:22pm
Losteffect: Good catch, I hadn't accounted for that. That exploit is a limitation of the games core, unfortunately. I could modify that faith bonus in-game by changing the effect, however. I don't want to heavily modify the game if I can help it, as every addition affects compatibility.
Losteffect 6 Dec, 2013 @ 5:52pm
This mod is so needed its amazing, only problem is because they count as "great people" if someone gets the faith addition that gives 100 science every time a great person is born you or the ai can farm this like every 2nd or 3rd turn eventually. You may wanna looking into that. otherwise perfection! :D
Gazebo  [author] 1 Aug, 2013 @ 7:33pm
Glad you like the mod. I haven't see the great people issue, but I will look into it. I'm not actively updating this version anymore, as there aren't any means of circumventing issues like this without a modded DLL (and I don't want to go down that road). If I can fix the bug, I will.
Fraternising 27 Jul, 2013 @ 10:21pm
Love the mod. but im with Haftetavenscrap i need my great people, i'm pretty sure the cost increase thing only happens with free diplounits, like when you build the forum romanum, cant think of how you'd solve that if they need to stay great for the AIs, maybe instead the stuff that gives free diplounits could instead increase the production limit, that would be well worth it imo. again, love the mod.
Gazebo  [author] 14 Jul, 2013 @ 7:11pm
You probably need to delete all of the files in the cache (go to my documents/my games/civ 5/cache and delete everything in that folder. Then, unsubscribe from the mod, resubscribe to it and you should be all set. If it still doesn't work, follow the link above to the civfanatics website for a manual download. Good luck!
Logion567 4 Jun, 2013 @ 6:50am
i am subsrcibbed, but when i lauch this mod isn't where is should be.
Doctor Proteus 18 Apr, 2013 @ 9:34am
Does this mod not work in conjunction with Overhaul mods like Community Call to Power and Civilization Nights? I just tried both overhauls with this mod active and Diplomatic Units could not be recruited and the option to throw gold at the City States was available, which I thought was diactivated with this mod so you have to use Diplomacy and not Gold to win over City States?

I remember this mod being compatible with an earlier version of Community Call to Power.
Gazebo  [author] 8 Apr, 2013 @ 9:16pm
Thanks for the feedback. Unfortunately, for the AI to use diplomatic units, they have to be considered great people. It isn't ideal, but it is a limitation of the game. in all the years of working on this mod I haven't noticed GP costs going up as a result of creating diplomatic units, but I will definitely give it a look. If you want to turn gifts back on, you can do so in the Options.sql file in the mod's folder. See my instructions above (on enabling compatibility) for a method on changing the options.sql file info. Have fun! Thanks for supporting CSD!

Some issues/suggestions:
It seems that diplomatic units count as Great People. This causes two problems: Producing diplomatic units seems to make great people more expensive (unconfirmed, but something is making the cost of great people rise). The other problem is that the Social Policy that causes city states to give you great people often gives you diplomatic units instead; a total ripoff.
I'd also like to point out that removing the possibility of gifts breaks a couple of the city state missions. It would be nice if gifts were actually effective when the city state asked for them, if not at other times.
Great mod otherwise! I'm only nitpicking because I think it deserves the attention!
Gazebo  [author] 17 Mar, 2013 @ 4:16pm
Delete your cache folder in your my documents/civ 5 folder, unsubscribe and then resubscribe.
tonytroese 16 Mar, 2013 @ 6:59am
This mod stopped showing up in mod list. Any recommendations?
damuffinman428 26 Feb, 2013 @ 10:12pm
i did already thank you good work on the mod
Gazebo  [author] 26 Feb, 2013 @ 8:45pm
Damuffinman: enable gold gifting in the mod's Options.sql file.
damuffinman428 26 Feb, 2013 @ 6:05pm
works except cant gift city state any gold, all 3 options say $0- 0 influence.
Maguyver 26 Feb, 2013 @ 9:39am
Just stopping in to say that this is a fantastic mod and, while it may not be possible to completely fix CS diplomacy, this mod is an absolute necessity that makes it much more satisfying. Thank you!
Gazebo  [author] 8 Jan, 2013 @ 10:31am
Always make sure to clear your mod cache- that can clear up CTDs.
ANZAC 8 Jan, 2013 @ 7:42am
Yeah, at first when I enabled them at the same time, my game had a CTD when then CPU was processing the City States, but after that first CTD, while your mod and Drawmeus's mod still enabled, their was no more CTDs. So, it might be just the first time they are enabled at the same time that you might get a CTD, but after that first time, no more CTDs. Sorry Gazebo and thank you again for this grouse (great) mod :-) .
Gazebo  [author] 8 Jan, 2013 @ 5:50am
M.J. - from what I can tell from my admittedly brief test, CSD and City States Investments already work together just fine. What kind of problems were you experiencing?
ANZAC 7 Jan, 2013 @ 10:28pm
G'day Gazebo
Brilliant mod, really good job :-) . I was wondering if you would be interested in making a compat patch for the City States Investments mod by Drawmeus at civfanatic (link: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=484497) or maybe collaberate with him/her in making a City States Investments and Diplomacy mod, which would make an interesting way of dealing with City States politically, financially and diplomatically.
Gazebo  [author] 6 Jan, 2013 @ 7:50pm
Glad you got it working. My advice, and empirical evidence, are still sound. Load order is important, however cache clearing is the #1 thing people forget to do when loading up new mods.
L O G A N 6 Jan, 2013 @ 6:50pm
im sorry but that is wrong i had to make your mod load first before Thal's mods to make it work ty for replying tho ;)
Gazebo  [author] 6 Jan, 2013 @ 6:42pm
Delete your cache (all items in the cache folder in your documents/my games/civ 5 folder) before you start a game. I tested GEM - CSD compatibility and they worked together just fine.
L O G A N 6 Jan, 2013 @ 5:24pm
just figured out that your mod conflicts with Thal's civup and GEM help me please....
L O G A N 6 Jan, 2013 @ 3:21pm
yea so this mod doesnt work for me..
I use Civup,Gem,religious icons and your mod and your mod does not work at all... help?
Komnenos 5 Jan, 2013 @ 7:59am
that is a great mod
BabblnBrooke 2 Jan, 2013 @ 12:25am
Love seeing mods like this that actually support diplomacy.
MorganaSkip 1 Jan, 2013 @ 12:18pm
It would be epic to be able to give conquered and useless towns to city states for fun and strategy.
Gazebo  [author] 28 Dec, 2012 @ 9:18am
Thalassicus- Awesome. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help.
Thalassicus 28 Dec, 2012 @ 4:26am
Thanks for all your hard work Gazebo! I'm poking around with mod references to see if I can make compatibility between our mods automatic. I'm going to set up your mod to load before Gem.
Gazebo  [author] 26 Dec, 2012 @ 7:45am
does SmoothPack work without CSD and/or does CSD work without SmoothPack? Do you use any other mods? CSD doesn't mess with that part of the diplomacy screen, so I can't imagine where the problem lies.
Dwarden 23 Dec, 2012 @ 3:11pm
well I'm not sure what breaks but I can't reach the screen where I can give units to city states ... tried with gold gifting enabled
Gazebo  [author] 23 Dec, 2012 @ 9:46am
Pipchu - I'm not sure what you are asking. There is a way to disable CSDs policies in the Options.sql file.

Dwarden - what is breaking? I've disabled gold gifts (so the value of gold gifts is zero) and I've changed the names of a few tabs, but that is it. If SmoothPack relies on specific names or xml for functionality, that could be the problem. The xml I mentioned should relieve the problem. If not, you might also need to enable gold-gifting in the options.sql file.
Dwarden 22 Dec, 2012 @ 10:00am
@gazebo , may I ask what could be breaking the functionality of screen where you can give units/gift gold for City States ? (aka which xml / lua to look for)
Gazebo  [author] 21 Dec, 2012 @ 1:28pm
No problem! That solution works for all mods- I generally clear the cache every time I install or uninstall a mod, just to help avert CTDs or other wackiness.
Stilgar08 21 Dec, 2012 @ 6:42am
Gazebo - runs smoothly! Thanks! Great mod - Love it! :)
Gazebo  [author] 19 Dec, 2012 @ 5:06pm
0074711- delete your cache (all items in the cache folder in your documents/my games/civ 5 folder).
nineholes9- this is my only mod and i'm not sure why you are having that problem- my mod does not affect city-state resources
Dwarden- I am not aware of this conflict, however I will look into it. You can renamethe 'CityStateText' .xml file in my mod's folder (navigate to documents/my games/civ 5/mods/city-state diplomacy mod (v35)/gameplay). That should alleviate the problem for now.
Stilgar08 19 Dec, 2012 @ 12:38pm
I don't know but I have a problem - Downloaded your mod (35), enabled it in Thal UP-Mod (vers. 2.2.2 (1)) and after writing there's no unit to be build. I see the buildings in the tech tree but no messenger and I cannot build one..? Any ideas or did I get sth. wrong?
Sabertooth 16 Dec, 2012 @ 7:12am
I don't no why i am haveing so much trouble with buying there resorces when
i am allies with them .its always in red it show 200 gold to by but won't let me .
is there anything you can do to help me with this PLEASE thankyou
Dwarden 14 Dec, 2012 @ 11:12am
there seems to be collision with the SmoothPack mod on the list down diplomacy list (it gets broken on the list of civs and citystates)
(at least the standalone diplomacy window is working) https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=79017443
any chance how migitate / merge / fix it? (i assume both mods trying override that list down diplomacy area)
