I might be way behind the curb on finally getting to mod my game, but the lodgic of honest weight to coin is so sound it's immersive and I love immersive mods. Absolute A+ this should of been featured on Mod GEMS.

Thank You to everyone who uses this, after a year and a half, this mod still has 900+ subscribers and 100+ favorites. I know that isn't that many, but it is far more than I expected for such a simple mod. I appreciate it.

As stormbow said, you are very welcome to make this yourself. (hint hint. this mod took literaly 3 minutes to make and 1 minute to fix the smithing glitch... it's that simple)

Freya - You are welcome to make your own Gold Smithing mod to accomplish the balance that you feel is more appropriate. The Creation Kit is a free download. There are hundreds of tutorial videos available covering a wide variety of mods. Good luck and happy modding.

Well you're getting really bent out of shape over me simply speaking my opinion on the mod I like tossing in my 2 cents for any mod I find curious or interesting i'v done it with many i'v even helped a lot giving them new ideas if not even my criticism was taken for use theres no point in keeping pent about when you want to say something.

Freya, I do. but that is not critism. that is your opinion on the game. People complained about the unlimited smithing xp glitch (critism) i fixed it.
As you stated, this isn't the real world, TRUE. I (along with MANY gamers) use enough mods to make it as realistic as possible cause we enjoy that.

I am also a writer, one of the first rules of writing is about critism. That rule states: "Take critism to heart... And do the exact oppisite." Meaning, do what makes you happy. You can't please everyone. That is what I did here. I did what I like, and shared it with the community so like minded people can have the mod.

I don't mean to sound harsh Freya. Honestly. Cause you are correct. this isn't the real world. But I am taking the "critism" you have given me, and I shall do absolutely nothing about it. If someone finds a true glitch or problem with the mod. I will fix it. but unless that happens. I will not be editing this mod anymore as it does exactly what I intended for it to do.

don't like it, don't waste time commenting. Some people (like myself) like this mod. If you don't like it, you don't have to use it. Just find something that suits your tastes. (which.. you could've found in the time it took you to type your comment)

Thats nice and all but this isn't the real world a Gold bar is worth 100 Coins and nothing more.and you can't weigh or measure fictional coins or bars like that it makes no sense good try though...

I like the idea of smelting Ingots > Coins and smelting Coins > Ingots. Makes much more sense than pounding them out on the anvil.

I did. All smithing gains are now removed. By making the smithing be done at the smelter, all xp gain is removed.

So yes, it is still 400 coins into 1 ingot and 1 ingot into 400 coins.

why not 1 ingot into 400 coins and 400 coins into 1 ingot? is it not possible to remove the smithing exp gained by this?

well i made this mod for myself at first... and made it with the intention of taking my gold coins and turning them into gold ingots, then stacking them in my house. I think 400 coins into 1 ingot is good... and one ingot into 200 coins is a good start... that way you can't abuse the mod to get smithing levels.. and it still does what i wanted it to do in the first place..

Well, the wiki says the base value of a gold ingot is 100 gp. But also you can turn a gold ingot into 2 gold rings worth 75 gp each (from the wiki). So 100 - 150 gp is kind of the max value you can get from a gold ingot alone with 100 barter. So, to be on the conservative side, maybe one gold ingot can be smelted into 100 coins but the coins can't be melted back into gold ingots?

Yes I know this as well. The one thing I can not figure out, is how low to take the Ingot-to-Coins. instead of getting 400 coins per ingot should get ___ per ingot... Don't know what to take it down to... possibly 200 - 300 is what I'm thinking atm. leaning more towards 250. any suggestions?

Your welcome. The Ingot-to-Coins smithing is the primary source of the XP, due to smithing XP being based upon the monetary value of the items you smith.

Thanks Zauber, I found this out myself awhile ago, but wasn't going to change it until someone said something about it. Since it is an exploit in this mod that gives unlimited smithing xp, I will fix it soon.

This mod is easily abused for level-grinding with smithing. You can just change gold coins into gold ingots or gold ingots into gold coins, and just keep doing it back and forth over and over again.

Also, note that the economy in Skyrim should be messed up due to all the dragon attacks, rebellion, and constant bandit and monster raids. The cities are all constantly on a war footing so that swords and armor cost hundreds or thousands of gold (and getting raw materials is tough due to the dangers of mining and transporting it). The people who have lots of gold are probably getting it by smithing it from coins (like this) or "liberating" it from bandit and monster caves.

People might not mind if you make gold coins because both the Imperials and Stormcloaks are messing things up and might be printing their own money anyway. In an environment like this, they might not care if its the Emperor, Ulfric, or your pet skeevers face on the coin so long as it has the right gold content in it.

This reminds me of a thing I read about DnD economies. How due to gold coins being basically worth the gold in them, they didn't have to be coins like we know. A gold coin is just a lump of gold that has marking on it to prove it was smithed with pure gold. Thats also why you can buy things with gold found in ancient crypts. In this case, you aren't finding septims in those old nord tombs, just old nord coins that have the same wieght and purity of gold. The merchants probably just weigh the gold coins on scales to determine value instead of counting.

Yeah, I always found those guys facinating. I mean, aside from the mammoth poaching (if mammoths actually gave me a few tons of meat then I could see the point) then Halted Streams seems like the sort of place I'd like to set up myself if possible. Get some workers to mine the iron, turn it into gold, keep people from invading it... the place was better protected than alot of mines in Skyrim. All it needs is a smelter and people who aren't hostile on sight and it'd be perfect.

Also, regarding weight and value: Gold coins might have more value than just the value of their metal. According to the wiki a gold bars base value is 100 gp. Coins also have value due to being currency (like how dimes are worth more than the copper and nickel in them) so even if the weight is off, the difference in value is due to septims being a currency.

Looking back, those bandits had it made. They had a pair of mages with a spell tome for turning iron into gold and silver, they had their own mine, fit with a large open room that had platforms so that they could split up territory and have their own "rooms" so to speak. They were poaching ivory from mammoths, had their own storage room, fit with a well-made fortress-like fence, and some archery towers.
