Oh, I misunderstood this. It's a gun that creates flares. I thought you could use flares at ammo to shot things.

question-does the flare gun do damage since the bullets are flameable and if not can u make it where u add flareguns damage 1 since they don't do alot of damage but makes the target cooked(u khow burning ☞◔ヮ◔☞)

"but you can mod in guns that shoot anything using the item spawn code."

Nah, I prefer your amazing flare gun.
Still, I would like to make the flare stay "on" longer and make the projectile do incendiary damage on contact to enemies.
Argle Bargle  [author] 18 Jan, 2017 @ 4:48pm
Technically there isn't a "flare gun" in vanilla, but you can mod in guns that shoot anything using the item spawn code. I highly recommend going through the projectile list and making a gun that shoots all of them at once, it's a lot of fun!
MasterWaffle 18 Jan, 2017 @ 2:04pm
Yes. type /admin to go admin mode. Then copy and paste that code. Free flare gun. type /admin to leave admin mode.
Critical Thinking 17 Jan, 2017 @ 1:03pm
@MasterWaffle do you mean there is a flare gun in teh vanilla game?
Kokorocodon 16 Jan, 2017 @ 10:53am
Reminds me of the first Alien Vs Predator game. And that's awesome <3

very good

I really enjoy using this mod as the flare gun is very, very useful in the early game. But it took me about a month to realize I don't need to bring along flares because, like every other gun in this game, it doesn't require ammo. It took me so long to get out of the habit of pressing R after shooting because doing that did nothing but it completely skipped my brain that I didn't need to bring along a stack of flares.

Vanilla Flare gun. No mods required. For those with too many mods:

/spawnitem rarepistol 1 '{"shortdescription":"Flare Gun","level":6,"seed":449,"animationCustom":{"sounds":{"fire":["/sfx/projectiles/throw_item_small.ogg"]}},"primaryAbility":{"fireTime":1.5,"projectileType":"flare","baseDps":0,"inaccuracy":0,"projectileParameters":{"speed":60,"power":17.5,"knockback":10}}}'

Das som gud shit. :millafp:
Argle Bargle  [author] 13 Oct, 2016 @ 1:51pm
You should only need 200 flares worth of volatile powder, which... makes me realize I screwed up the numbers on this and it's currently 400, which is ridiculous. I'll push a fix to this, reducing the recipe by half.
pee ness 12 Oct, 2016 @ 4:34pm
"but don't want to keep a stack of 999 flares on hand"
You need 999 flares to craft it
the fucking irony
Nyoomin Zoomin 12 Oct, 2016 @ 6:38am
@Arturo: You could always find a Garden planet and go to the mine that it has. Good source of Core Fragments
Michael Lemmons 12 Oct, 2016 @ 4:23am
Aside from the fact that you need to core out an entire solar system to get enough volatile powder, this is a really neat utility.
Argle Bargle  [author] 11 Oct, 2016 @ 1:47am
You could always make patches instead. That's what HybridAir did when he had an idea for an improvement to that other mod I did, and people loved it.
summus artifex 11 Oct, 2016 @ 12:44am
also besides it wouldn't make sense to make a mod out of ideas to improve other mods because it would probably confuse the community of whether or not to choose one or the other.
summus artifex 11 Oct, 2016 @ 12:40am
Sssstab.
summus artifex 11 Oct, 2016 @ 12:39am
Thanks for the info, I may take ya up on that. But in the meantime, most of my ideas are support ideas for the potential limit of improvement that can be made for mods that already exist. I can at least find solace in knowing that people can make use of them and make things a bit better than before, and i'm fine with that much. I'm not after popularity or things like that anyway. I just enjoy watching progression move forward most of the time. I guess I just have that happy to help and go with the flow personality. I also have a tendency to probe ideas all the way to a potential limit for improvement to certain things. Like a deep mirky puddle i know not the limit to it until i stab it and can't go any further without hitting solid rock or packed dirt. A Floran would love that analogy.
Argle Bargle  [author] 10 Oct, 2016 @ 7:41pm
You should give modding a try! Google some tutorials, unpack a few mods to see how they work, unpack Starbound's own assets to see how they built the game, there's a really good tutorial here [starbounder.org] on how to do that... Starbound was built from the ground up to be easy to mod, so if you're full of ideas it's a great creative outlet!
summus artifex 10 Oct, 2016 @ 6:11pm
another type of flare which would be exceedingly useful would be the sticky flare. i think you could probably use the same setup a sticky bomb has just without all the exploding.
summus artifex 10 Oct, 2016 @ 6:07pm
and to be honest i kind of annoy myself with that fact.
summus artifex 10 Oct, 2016 @ 6:06pm
the thing is that i have so many ideas that are structuraly sound that people can wrap their heads around but i have no actual skill to impliment them. it's sad but it's the truth.
Goober 10 Oct, 2016 @ 2:03pm

cool idea:SBHorse::SBchicken::SBpanda:
summus artifex 10 Oct, 2016 @ 2:34am
cool. everyone has their preferences. anyway on the note of ideas why not make a flare gun setup similar to the addaptive crossbow but with different flare types? smoke trail, sparkle trail, cave flare, and of course the ground to air burst flash flares. switching between those modes would be holding right click down for 3 seconds and switching colors would be tapping right click. trail flares and stuff for location or signaling would give people a directional HUD telling what color and mode was used when firing, and show them the general direction.
Veteran Emu 10 Oct, 2016 @ 12:57am
finally i can shoot flares at some douche bags online thank you
Argle Bargle  [author] 9 Oct, 2016 @ 9:38pm
I'm pretty comfortable with the current pace.
summus artifex 9 Oct, 2016 @ 7:08pm
I have a feeling that if that change were to come, it would be a refreshing change of pace for both your subscribers, and you :).
summus artifex 9 Oct, 2016 @ 7:07pm
If you don't want to be bothered by hekler comments, regular comments, ideas and/or bug report comments from mingling with each other and getting too confusingly mixed up to understand, then you may want to make an idea thread and a bug report thread under the discussions tab. This is a page I took note of in the book of common sense from experience of going to other modders paged who have set it up like I have described. It actually works really well to seperate the regular comments from important information regarding possible improvements people can make to their own mods. Then maybe you will find it easier to narrow down on problems or improvements that are worth while concepts and challenges to accept for fun or just because.
