You're really tempting me to just take the coward's way out and make the walls smooth.

Luckily I haven't hit the maximum amount of glass yet.
Prototype 7 Jun, 2013 @ 10:06pm
Not yet you won't :P here is my 9th alternate solution: https://www.dropbox.com/s/vkiwe4fqhd7j9th/thecage9.dem (more good tricks inside)

Dang, I thought I finally had you. Those were pretty good tricks.

Got another update. I will make you use that stupid speed gel!
Prototype 3 Jun, 2013 @ 5:35am
Well...you had me defeated for quite a while, but eventually I've managed to come up with yet another solution that doesn't use the speed gel. :P

This one really required some thinking outside the box (quite funny since I'm in a glass "box"), hope you like it, here is my demo https://www.dropbox.com/s/827c6n2a6bbnsf0/thecage8.dem

Curses! I thought I had that blocked but you threaded the needle. The very clever second half of your solution makes it moot anyway.

Okay, I think I've seen the light now. Try this one.
Prototype 30 May, 2013 @ 3:01am
Glad you like my little angle trick :) because it features in this even easier solution (the solution takes less than half the time the last solution took to execute). https://www.dropbox.com/s/tm41vopyvlfa6cu/thecage7.dem

Also note that I make use of a portal location that could be called a glitch, this is to show it to you, the same solution still works using the normal portal surface next to that. (this will make sense after you watch the demo)
buff00n  [author] 30 May, 2013 @ 12:08am
Well, it's not exactly aligned, or there wouldn't be a hole.

I spent some extra time banging around, and also trying to figure out exactly how you got gel on the floor next to the exit. That's a pretty good trick. Now I need sleep.
Prototype 29 May, 2013 @ 11:40pm
Have you fixed it? It's because of the way the puzzlemaker inserts glass, aligned with the edge of the square you put it on.
buff00n  [author] 29 May, 2013 @ 10:04pm
Aw, what the hell? Expletives deleted.
Prototype 28 May, 2013 @ 4:07am
I believe your glass has holes in it :P https://www.dropbox.com/s/vnye32kfou19knn/thecage6.dem (you've prevented most of the simple solutions...so now it's on to the tricky ones :)
buff00n  [author] 27 May, 2013 @ 4:43pm
Okay, that one was impressive. Next round.
Prototype 27 May, 2013 @ 12:48am
You don't have to wait too long :P https://www.dropbox.com/s/5087mftcbuhswco/thecage5.dem
buff00n  [author] 26 May, 2013 @ 8:09am
Yeah, that was dumb. I can't wait to see what you come up with for this one.
Prototype 25 May, 2013 @ 11:28pm
Your going to have to do better than that :P https://www.dropbox.com/s/9r560r7zy3k4wyy/thecage4.dem (I used the cube, but that orange gel is getting awfully lonely :)
buff00n  [author] 25 May, 2013 @ 8:52pm
Glad you're having fun! Try this one, smart guy.
Prototype 25 May, 2013 @ 8:12pm
Well if you didn't like that, then your really not going to like this :P :P

I solved without using the orange goo OR the cube :) here is my demo: https://www.dropbox.com/s/4trg0jthzqfc62c/thecage3.dem (yes, I really do enjoy breaking this level)
buff00n  [author] 25 May, 2013 @ 3:58pm
Son of a ...!
Prototype 25 May, 2013 @ 3:51pm
Well I wasn't expecting you to do that :) It took me a while to realise that I didn't need the floor to break it :P here is the new demo: https://www.dropbox.com/s/f39xxduzk7t44gq/thecage2.dem
buff00n  [author] 25 May, 2013 @ 10:38am
Aw... damn. Thanks for the demo; how did we all miss that?

It should be fixed now.
Prototype 25 May, 2013 @ 3:20am
I was lost for quite a while when I entered, it is not often I walk into a chamber with just gel and a cube I can't get to :) I eventually solved in a way that seemed intended'ish (using everything)....

And then decided to break it :P I have solved without the orange gel using some creative angles, demo: https://www.dropbox.com/s/fc36a2l2s1cqbqk/thecage.dem
Mitch McWiggins 22 May, 2013 @ 11:52am
Good one! Thanks.
buff00n  [author] 2 Mar, 2013 @ 2:44pm
Thanks! Credit goes to Reiman who really put this one through the ringer.
Geneosis 2 Mar, 2013 @ 1:44pm
After trying almost everything, I got the right angle :p After that, I tried to clear the level with only white gel... But that was too hard so I gave up X) Every tricky solution I could think about will not work without utra-high reflexes...
Really fun and solid level anyway ^^
Rei 26 Feb, 2013 @ 3:01pm
Excellent, now it looks and feels perfect. Thumbs up! :)
At least, the see-saw is still my friend. But - I think that can't and mustn't be killed anyway.
buff00n  [author] 25 Feb, 2013 @ 11:17pm
Okay, I finally see what you're doing. Thanks for sticking with it!

You don't even need any extra height. If you can get gel onto the second floor then you can just stand on the edge of the raised angle panel and jump to see it.

Luckily, I think I can solve both of our shortcuts by simply making things bigger. This is now a very big room.

The trick at 1:30 is just something I found by accident. It's by no means the only way to get gel in that particular location; it's just the easiest.
Rei 25 Feb, 2013 @ 12:11pm
And sorry, as I don't see a reasonable logic puzzle piece in what you did from 1:30 to 1:50 anyway, although I understand what happened by chance, you somehow must have found out in lots of playing around with gels.
And your jump to the second floor is legendary. Everyone first must dare to try it, without having fear from death in a bunch of tries I think - so I just didn't came up with this Idea. My way is less lethal. Well ... not lethal at all, anyway. Where are my 60 bucks? ;)
Rei 25 Feb, 2013 @ 12:11pm
Ooops, I did it again without speed gel: pic

I also never used the edge of the bottom floor that sticked out to come to the see-saw.
Sorry for that, but I always did it like you with the portal on the ceiling beside the gel dropper:

First I shot gel to the lower floor, using the angeled panel, similar to you, so that I !!wouldn't stuck!! when taking the cube (please add something down there, if you get down without, say, a jump with the speed gel). The cube makes geling much easier - it maybe works even without, but that's way too straining.
For the second step I shot gel to the middle floor, same way as to the lower, then geled the middle floor.
The rest is cake, like described above.

buff00n  [author] 24 Feb, 2013 @ 3:23pm
Okay, I got that. But the only "higher ground" you could be using is between the starting floor and the bottom floor across the gap. That's a 3-square gap; too far to cross especially if you're going vertically through a portal.

Anyway, I found my own shortcut. I put a portal on the ceiling beside the gel dropper and one on the floor under that and just fell over and over again until had had enough speed. Then I moved the ceiling portal to the floor to break out of the fall, then I put the next portal on the edge of the bottom floor across the gap. That gave me enough vertical momentum to rise to the middle floor.

So I removed the edge of the bottom floor; it no longer sticks out. It was only there in the first place to catch you if you fell a little short with the "official" solution. Maybe this finally prevents your see-saw solution as well.
Rei 24 Feb, 2013 @ 1:34pm
Uhm ... jump from any high into a portal on the ground, then pop out another portal on the ground, then fall back and get same hight above the first portal as you jumped in ... and so on.
buff00n  [author] 20 Feb, 2013 @ 3:22pm
You might have to explain the see-saw effect to me. Doesn't ring a bell.
Rei 19 Feb, 2013 @ 10:14am
I'm not, but don't you be stumped now: I did it similar, even without the speed gel and the spots on the wall came from my try and error. I didn't really needed them. Remember the see-saw effect, you can easily use it here.
buff00n  [author] 18 Feb, 2013 @ 6:01pm
If you're stumped now: Here's how I solve it . It takes less then four minutes. Spoiler alert, obviously.
buff00n  [author] 18 Feb, 2013 @ 3:42pm
That's got to be a bug. I guess I have no choice but to move the walls far enough away that you can't use them.
Rei 18 Feb, 2013 @ 11:09am
Oh, now I've learned another lesson: how to get a different (orange) gel, whose target floor isn't portalable but there is conversion gel nearby. Thanks for that - now I know! But, I didn't use it in the end anyway: spoiler
And it's really interesting, how glass becomes portalable like grating, if there's a wall behind them, even though you can't walk through them: fascinating
That opens up the opportunity for tons of new puzzles for portal - or shall it not be used, as it may be fixed somedays...?
buff00n  [author] 17 Feb, 2013 @ 12:01pm
Wow, I have no idea how you did that, either. Let me put it this way: I could put a grating over everything above ground level and you could still make it across.
Rei 17 Feb, 2013 @ 10:43am
Hi, I experienced here something very strange.
First of all, is this < spoiler > the intended way? Because I really don't know, how I got the two splashes on the upper left corners, that finally helped me to exit :)
