My guess would be that WE needs the audio device to be set to "Default device" or whatever is called instead of a specific device selected. Or it sounds like something like that. But best to ask forum about it if the problem remains as you will get more and possibly better help then I can give.

Welp, i noticed that it only reacts to it when i play music thru my speakers but it just wont work with my headphones. Any wallpaper though, not just yours.

Check the volume in windows volume mixer for the volume of wallpaper engine and that its maxed out. Check the audio device that is selected in WE. And otherwise check the sticky linked in the description. Don't really know more about it then that.

Any idea why your wallpaper doesent react to my audio? I checked the audio recording but its still just the default animation

Found more info .. in short .. we probably wont be able to do it .. They seem to have a lot more precision in their data .. But some of the vids did give me some nice ideas for audio wallpapers based on those aftereffect plugins ( or whatever they were )
Squee  [author] 18 Jan, 2017 @ 6:03am
I see they created that with aftereffects, and it does seem to be based off the real music, but it does look like its been manipulated somehow but can put my finger on it ..

Kind of. But not really what i'm searching for. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5rxwkVexREM Here you can see them really good, there are those curves going all over the ball when the beat drops. That kind of effect, and i want it to do that, even though WE probably provides too less audio samples, but maybe you can tell it to do that on heavy beats.

Well kinda :) It 'slides' better with all the "blurring" :) Compare it to the source data by setting the source data color to something that isnt black.

Pancakes .. I think my audio guide wallpaper one might do a bit what you want .. check this one ..

With your video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OJ6XpUz2RmA

And the settings ( for the audio guide wallpaper ):
Source Data Color: black ( to hide it )
Normalize: on ( speed: max )
Smoothing: on ( amount: max )
Motionblur: on ( amount: 50% )
Power: 'val ^ 2' or 'val ^ 3'

That is the "wave" like effect you meant right?

}

while( hasBeer() ) { drink(); }
die();

But yeah, dont have the time to teach :( Also not a great teacher haha .. But there are some guides for wallpaper engine, and internet is full of coding examples :) It's just a matter of doing it and spending 100's hours on learning new things ..

Yeah, I'm excited to see something like that in the future!

An interesting idea is what I think :) But would really still depend on the music .. For example I think you would mostly just want to follow the melody ( assuming there is one ) which would mean you dont want to follow any drum related sounds like snares, hihats or bass .. But you can't really filter those accurately either.

Personally I would not be for a delay as there already is minor one and if it does not look like it is in sync with the music it probably wont be very good eyecandy as it would seem delayed and therefor buggy.

I can't think of a quick way to do something that would be satisfying .. But it is an interesting idea so will probably give it a couple of thoughts :)

What if you add an option that like "waves" up to the actual sound curve? like when a big beat comes up. that might have a bigger delay but maybe it's worth it? what do you think about that?
Squee  [author] 17 Jan, 2017 @ 10:03am
Yeah it is really hard to do and really depends on the music. But the more clear/pure the sounds are the better that effect becomes that your vid shows, but many "tones" are coords which already use different notes and can have a lot of subfrequencies too ( or whatever you call it ) and span an even larger frequency range.

I have tested some of my wallpapers on things ranging from people talking and calm classical or ambient music to speedmetal or gabber and anything in between. They all have their own traits when it comes to the FFT data we get and I just try to find some settings in the middle that work for most or see if I can find some setting that can help certain situations ( thats how I end up with tooo many settings )

Only Sea song, VU meter, and audioscape work well with it other than frequencies. so not too many. Would be really awesome if you could replicate such an effect with every song like it's also done in most after effects visualizers. But that probably isn't possible, is it?
Squee  [author] 17 Jan, 2017 @ 9:21am
I think that should work nicely on several wallpapers
