@FoodgooferGaming It's an excellent novel by science fiction author Phillip K. Dick, published in 1962. It's about an alternate 1962 in which the axis powers won WW2; one aspect of the setting is that the Mediterranean sea has been drained to create farmland. This plan was actually put forth by German architect Herman Sörgel in the 1920s, and he continued to promote it until his death in 1952. Ironically, though envisioned in the novel as a device of Nazi Germany, Sörgel envisioned the draining of the mediterranean as a way to avoid the political conflict over farmland for overpopulated Europe that would eventually form into the second world war. Sörgel was a pacifist, who hoped that the nations of Europe could work together in using technology, rather than conflict, to solve their problems.
