Had to find this. Started playing XCOM2 again after a year. Just went through the Avenger siege unable to correctly target half of the incoming aliens let alone send medic drone to injured squadmates. Hope this fixes that.

Thank you! Saved my playthrough a lot of pain.

This mod is not obsolete, it's MUCH needed!!!! I was desperate as been suffering this issue with the targeting, and now it's fixed. Thanks!!!!

having the bug pop up again, guess I'll re-sub to see if this fixes things
SimplyRandy 13 Dec, 2016 @ 5:11pm

The ones that affect gameplay only would suffice.

My game hasn't been vanilla since the release lol so not sure about that. As for mods i have 113... but im sure you probably dont care about all the cosmetic ones? because thats about 90 of them lol do you just want the ones that effect game play?
robojumper  [author] 29 Nov, 2016 @ 7:33am
@angel_wolves
Did the bug occur in vanilla? If not, can you give me a mod list?
King of the Thannes 29 Nov, 2016 @ 6:26am
I was one of the ones it didn't fix '''''\_(o,o)_/''''' But this makes it work fine, so thanks :)

@Dragon32
Maybe for some people the hotfix doesn't install properly?
Dragon32 26 Nov, 2016 @ 11:15am
@Devious:
They have. Targeting works fine for me and others since the hotfix. However a number of people continue to report the targeting bug. It's very very weird.
Devious 26 Nov, 2016 @ 11:01am
Yep your fix worked like a charm letting me actually shoot who I want to shoot, Thank you so much for making this, also firaxis should take this and add it to the base game.
LooseNooseZeusMooseGooseJuice 26 Nov, 2016 @ 10:48am
Thanks for the reply. Sounds like you've got a real mystery on your hands. I'm going to try reinstalling the base game and DLC's, see if that fixes some sort of footprint that got left behind. I'll put it here if it works.
robojumper  [author] 26 Nov, 2016 @ 9:25am
@Devious
Please tell me if this mod resolves the issue. I am literally clueless why people are still having problems in a vanilla game.
Devious 26 Nov, 2016 @ 9:10am
@robojumper
Yeah I wasn't running any mods, I had just for the first time installed Xcom 2 and yes I did the tutorial and it wouldn't aim at anybody I actually wanted to shoot in the first mission after the tutorial.
robojumper  [author] 26 Nov, 2016 @ 8:54am
@Devious
For the record: You haven't installed XCOM 2 before, weren't running any new mods, and the bug occured that you shoot the wrong enemy?
I'm asking because the first mission in the tutorial is scripted and you can only target a specific enemy. That's not a bug.
Devious 26 Nov, 2016 @ 7:19am
Hey robojumper, yesterday I bought Xcom 2 and started it up went through the tutorial and got the targeting bug. I thought it was supposed to have been fixed with a patch Firaxis made? I'm now going to use your fix to see if it fixes my problem.
robojumper  [author] 26 Nov, 2016 @ 5:05am
@King of Thump
The mod can not be made to not conflict with LWPP.

I have literally no idea why it fixes the bug for some now, because is does effectively nothing, unless you're using a controller. But Controller targeting is fixed too from what I can tell…
LooseNooseZeusMooseGooseJuice 26 Nov, 2016 @ 3:39am
I should say that I have already verified the game cache, went through all my modsone at a time, and checked everything in combination with each other as well. My base games targeting is the broken factor, I'm certain of it.
LooseNooseZeusMooseGooseJuice 26 Nov, 2016 @ 3:03am
I've read that a lot of people are still having targeting but issues, is there anyway this mod could be updated to not conflict with LWPP? No matter what I've personally tried to change and move around, I just can't make the two work together. It always pushes things off the ability bar during missions. Plus, this mod is only thing that still makes my game playable.
robojumper  [author] 24 Nov, 2016 @ 1:29am
@TheRealestAsami
This mod does not leave any traces in the save file, other than the warning when trying to load a save made with this mod installed. You have a different issue.
TheRealMe 23 Nov, 2016 @ 3:32pm
Had the mod installed before it went obselete. Game crashes when right at the end of the campaign due to me uninstalling the mod because the issue was fixed. Saves refuse to work now.

Never mod anything again, OP.
Zigg Price 20 Nov, 2016 @ 7:41pm
Negative. With this loaded in, it overrides no matter what, it seems. Load order doesn't fix it.
marshmallow justice 20 Nov, 2016 @ 7:27pm
does it work if lwpp goes after?
LooseNooseZeusMooseGooseJuice 20 Nov, 2016 @ 6:38pm
I'm having the same issue as Anamoly, and the same questions about it being necessary to overide the LLPP.
Zigg Price 20 Nov, 2016 @ 9:14am
When I have this loaded after LWPP, it goes back to the vanilla behavior of only allowing 15 icons, because this mod overrides the ability container.
marshmallow justice 20 Nov, 2016 @ 8:51am
@Anomaly
I seem to have gotten normal XCOM operations by putting this after LWPP. I removed 30 Ability Icon 'cos of the conflict, and since LWPP options say that it allows for the same functionality anyway.
Zigg Price 20 Nov, 2016 @ 7:36am
Backup mods before verifying cache, then. Best practice.

However, I will say that I just verified back to vanilla, unchecked this mod, and the targeting bug is back. It seems to be fixed in most places, so some combination of mods that I have running is likely the culprit. Testing this, again, though, to see if I can get it working in the interrim. Any chance this could be changed to not override the Long War Perk Pack ability container, though? Not sure if that is necessary to fix it, or not, since the Perk Pack was updated.
marshmallow justice 19 Nov, 2016 @ 11:14am
Okay, this fixes the bug still for me (at the expense of Geoscape map lag)
marshmallow justice 19 Nov, 2016 @ 7:35am
since 30 Ability Icons removed the fix, can I install this one to get it again? the patch didn't work for me after clearing my document configs, and I don't want to deal with verifying integrity and then re-making an entire LW list of changes for the third time if it's not just core game files that need to be reset, but mods also.
robojumper  [author] 18 Nov, 2016 @ 7:30am
@badassgrunt
There's no reason to, because of Compatibility Problems with other mods. If you want to get rid of the warning when loading a save, there are multiple mods that can do this.
badassgrunt 18 Nov, 2016 @ 6:59am
Can I still run this mod even with the hotfix?
Commander Paragon 17 Nov, 2016 @ 11:21am
Hotfix does indeed fix the targeting issue. The reason why it was not working for me was that the previous version of the Long War Perk Pack seemed to prevent the hotfix from working. Once LWPP was updated, and my game cache was reverified, the targeting system went back to normal. Thank you robojumper for putting this up while the LW and Firaxis devs figured out the problem.
Crazyduck 17 Nov, 2016 @ 2:44am
Those who still have targeting bug after hotfix, try to verify game cache. I think that simply unchecking this mod doesnt work because it still has some left over code in the files. Hotfix did fix targeting for me, but I had to verify game cache.
Alejo418 17 Nov, 2016 @ 1:51am
Been having this problem for a bit, best work-around i've found without using a mod is individually clicking on the different target heads, it kind of force resets the UI to idenitfy the proper unit, Tab still doesnt work though
123nick 16 Nov, 2016 @ 5:11pm
@Skarsatai 2.0 , please stop being impatient and give firaxis a couple of days .its not like xcom 2 is there ONLY game to worry about.
Skarsatai 2.0 16 Nov, 2016 @ 1:49pm
Do not put it down. Looks like firaxis will never make it right. with your mod all is working like it should.
Eastsider 4232 16 Nov, 2016 @ 11:07am
so how do i remove the notification when i try to load previous save game (started with this mod then turned it off)??
Syro System 16 Nov, 2016 @ 10:25am
Tried running it without your mod, my units shoot at what I aim for now, but the target selection is now bugged in a completely new way (I'l be damned if it's not gonna take another month before the official fix does it right).

Now when you click a specific target your soldier aims at another one, and when you cycle through the targets in aim mode with tab, it jumps around randomly. It IS possible to make them aim at what you want and they DO shoot it when you tell them to fire, but the target selection process becomes annoying as crap and when you are in a target rich enviroment it quickly becomes hard to tell exactly what your guy is aiming for.

Honestly it worked way better with your mod before the "hot fix". Fuck this fucking patch full of toxic code that belongs on console versions.
Crazyduck 16 Nov, 2016 @ 1:44am
Targeting is working for me after the hotfix, although I did verify game cache.
robojumper  [author] 15 Nov, 2016 @ 10:22pm
LWPP has been updated to work with the latest patch. Please try again without this mod and see it it's patched now.
Pokefire 15 Nov, 2016 @ 10:10pm
I would agree with you except they didn't, such a shame really.
robojumper  [author] 15 Nov, 2016 @ 9:46pm
So that's interesting. Added a question mark to the obsolete for now, gonna have to do some more testing. It *really* should be fixed in the latest patch, since Firaxis fixed it nearly exactly the way I did.
Kartoffel 15 Nov, 2016 @ 8:42pm
if you guys are still having issues with the targeting bug, do as Dasta says and verify the integrity of the cache. Also, be sure to reacquire your config files just in case. If you do both of those things and the problem still persists, then that would be the time to resub to this. And also to let Firaxis know. :)
Pokefire 15 Nov, 2016 @ 7:44pm
Agreed, I rather trust the community then the devs beyond this point, deities bless the community!
Commander Paragon 15 Nov, 2016 @ 7:40pm
This isn't obselete yet. The hot fix did not fix the targeting bug for me as well. Resubscribing. Maybe you can point Firaxis in the right direction Robojumper?
Dasta 15 Nov, 2016 @ 6:21pm
@Tom @Panicsferd
Have you Verified Integrity of Game Cache since patch? I tried playing, targetting bug. Verified integrity and tried again without this mod, and the bug went away. Leftover stuff from this mod may be interfering with the hotfix that came out.
A kobold 🎖 15 Nov, 2016 @ 5:39pm
How is it that the devs of a game can not fix a bug, which a modder has fixed for them.... yep video game development has gone down the tube.
Panicsferd 15 Nov, 2016 @ 5:34pm
@Tom, I have same issue. I wonder do we need to have a new game for it to fix or what?
