Back up to the trailer's hook and hold b.
If you do not have VCMod, you must place the trailer's ball-hook into the spot where there is a gap in the truck's hooking spot. It will usually then easily slide in, but it takes a few tries.

2. Yes, you are certainly correct. But Photon is much, much more realistic in lighting patterns and brightness, not to mention light quality.
