I want to remove the outline effect from the highlight while keeping the glow effect, and with a few tweaks this seems to do the trick.
There ARE issues like that cockpit thing with the Helmet HUD mod, though. Maybe you're using that?
A mod would definitely be better. In blue, preferably. You wouldn't believe how much better this game looks with blue highlights.
Know what you're doing! Make backups of Environment.sbc if you plan to mess with it! Don't blame me if you break it!
For <ContourHighlightColor>, XYZ translates to RGB, but I don't know min/max value. I got blue from X=0,Y=0,Z=1. W=0 hides the non-outline part. I also set <HighlightPulseInSeconds> to 0 (I don't know if it's needed when transparent).
So now I've got a blue highlight that just shows the edges.
@Eikester If you could make a mod with these settings, I'd happily subscribe and use it.

Shrooms (who posted http://i.imgur.com/qqJPbre.png?1) I think is on to something.
I have waited for someone to make a mod like this for months now.

I would love to see this rather than 0 highlight
