@Frission, I sent the lead dev an email saying that I wanted to work there.

And now I work there. :)

I've wanted to do more creative writing for a while now, but unfortunately I have a side project eating up all my spare time. Hit "follow" on my Patreon account if you want to be notified when I'm writing more (don't feel obliged to give me money, I'm just using it as a hub for Zorba's Stuff right now.)

@koala fritz Only removes has from the portraits. Not the pawns themselves. This actually SAVES lines of code because you get to see BOTH the helmet and the hair at the same time...

@koala fritz Pretty sure this mod was only for portraits so it's easier to differentiate between characters and so you can see their lovely hair. It never actually removed the hats in the actual game but you clearly don't understand how to read.

I never understood why people want to see their god damn hair in a game while getting the added stats. You're not a space marine HQ selection, wear a helmet or don't, but don't waste lines of code for this idiocy.

@Imperator, it should be completely fine with mods that add more hats. Unfortunately, I can almost guarantee that this is a mod conflict; if you post your mod list I might be able to tell you which mod is causing the issues. Alternatively, you can try disabling most of your mods and trying a new save to see if it works; enabling and disabling mods will eventually let you narrow down which mod is the problem.

@Imperator, this mod modifies the pawn rendering code to disable hats in the character bar. If another mod is modifying the same code, theirs might override this one. You could presumably "fix" this by moving this mod to the bottom, but then anything another mod did to modify pawn rendering would be clobbered. There may not be an easy way to make the mods cooperate.

So the hats are showing up for me, though they seem to be hats from mods. Can I overwrite them with this mod by placing it higher or lower in the order or does Rimworld not work that way?

@Jet, well, he's teeeechnicaly right, but I think he's dramatically overestimating the amount of work it would be to integrate.

If he had the source code posted somewhere sensible I'd be tempted to send him a patch, but honestly, reading over that first post in that thread makes me think he'd be a nightmare to work with :V Sorry - don't have a good solution for you!

This was his response when I asked him about it last month. Makes it sound like it would be a lot of work. I get it if its not anytime soon as its still in alpha state, I'd be happy to just hear it be an eventuality.

"Yeah, it would create a lot of overhead work for me making compatches when my mod isn't even done. The biggest thing would be mucking around in other people's code and trying to combine their's with mine without breaking either one's functionality."

@Jet, realistically, they should probably make their mod compatible with this one ;) World Without Hat is roughly ten lines of code - I'd have to reimplement a moderately large chunk of Children And Pregnancy in order to support it properly.

It'd be a matter of minutes and a checkbox for them to support this functionality natively, and then you wouldn't even need to use this mod. It would honestly be a much cleaner solution.

Go ask them, tell them my code is public and I'm happy to help if they need it!

It wouldn't surprise me at all if the Apini race mod is incompatible - anything that modifies the pawn rendering code significantly is going to conflict. I may not have a good answer for you here.

I think i have a mod confict, but not sure which one. Anyways, this mod isn't working for me.
A hat still renders in the portrait for an Apini from the Apini playable race mod, and the feral power suit helmet(I think) from the Rimsenal-feral mod still renders in the portrait for a human pawn.

Great mod. I really like seeing my colonists and how they look, with their gorgeous coloured hair, and the unique styles from mods.

However, I've had too many hunting accidents and unlucky hits from raiders where my colonists suffer extensive brain damage, become crippled for the next five years and are next to useless until bionics or BrainPals can fix them up.

...all because I wanted to see their beautiful hair styles and colours, and ditched that power armour helmet :'(

@stultz, grim, can you try making a new game with *just* this mod enabled, to see if it happens there or if this might be a conflict with some other mod?

(I suspect some other mod is now hooking the same function this one is; not a lot I can do about that, unfortunately.)
