... unless someone beats me to it - which is fine, as I'm climbing a long rope ;-) lol

@gglobot Shame to lose you as an SE modder, but I hear ya. I am intending to try SE modding as a way to get back into programming, so I may take up that fork offer at some point - cheers :-D
Hirnsausen 12 Feb, 2020 @ 6:52pm
Are the developer files on GitHub.com?
gglobot  [author] 12 Feb, 2020 @ 12:48pm
@BrianJ1962 ... I don't play space anymore, or just occasionally on some vanilla server... So I won't update this anymore.
But feel free to post your own fork of this mod if you want to. Has I explained before, it is not so difficult to tweak an existing mod ...
BrianJ 1962 10 Feb, 2020 @ 11:43am
Hmm... I'm guessing this is dead in the water as there's been no updates since 2017? Shame :-/

GREAT ADVISE!!!
Thanks a lot, and my appreciation!
gglobot  [author] 9 Jul, 2019 @ 12:05pm
@Hirnsausen... This is not the place to explain how to Mod, but I am sure you can find some tutorial on the net.
For information, you can find downloaded mods in your steamlib directory (ex: SteamLibrary\steamapps\workshop\content\244850)
the earthBreaker mod id is 824449049 so you will find a directory with this name.
in the directory there will be a .bin file that is in fact a zip archive. And you can unzip it somewhere to modify the mod.
configuration file are .sbc that are basically xml files.

to load a local mod you must place it in your C:\Users\[userName]\AppData\Roaming\SpaceEngineers\Mods\
then it will appear in game, and you will be able to select it

Hirnsausen 9 Jul, 2019 @ 3:17am
How would I modify the specs of this mod?
gglobot  [author] 7 Jul, 2019 @ 6:47am
@Hirnsausen for that you will have to make an other mod... I don't really play space engineer anymore or maintain this mod.
You can use this mod as a base en modify some parameter to feet your needs.

Let's talk in blocks. How many blocks is the drill radius of this drill?

For our game server, we need an XXL Industrial Drill having a drill radius of 30 blocks to each side. The factions on our server build ships that must go underground and even have battles underground, but the current drill radius sizes restrict the size of our ships.

The drill itself could be 5x5x10 blocks in size. Maybe even two work modi: tunneling (30 blocks radius), and ore mining (10 blocks radius to each side, or 30 blocks but very slow). Can you do such a mod?
Beedog743 14 Sep, 2018 @ 5:29pm
is the radius on this drill bigger than the vanilla?
gglobot  [author] 8 Sep, 2018 @ 7:53am
@dantassii I never had such an issue, and i don't think it is even conceivable that such a simple 3d model could cause any damage. If you graphical card over-heat and got dammage you better check GPU overclocking and heat sink to see if it is not too dirty. This is especialy important in summer when the external température is high...
Dantassii Tacatii 2 Sep, 2018 @ 8:34am
As soon as I build one of these my video card (GForce 1080 Ti) goes to maximum FAN speeds and the video shuts down. My old GForce 970 card actually suffered damage from this max FAN speed. Something definitely wrong since the July patch went out. Tried this in Survivial and Creative mode. Does the exact same thing. FAN goes to max within seconds of entering the ship after finishing construction.

Clearly going too fast?? In the spirit of being somewhat realistic, Look at large equipment. That amount of metal should survive a small nuclear blast. Watch youtube videos or pictures of idiots not tieing down thier backhoes or loaders properly and hit overpasses going 60-80 MPH and the equipment usually survives, the bridges and land usually dont. I have worked with heavy equipment most of my life. Im telling you if i tap a dumb astroid going 5-8m/s and it goes poof, I get P.O'd. Its seriosly too weak.
[40-1] SgtSnipey 8 Aug, 2018 @ 12:39pm
I have been running it my server for the last 2 days with no issuess
gglobot  [author] 8 Aug, 2018 @ 10:40am
I played with it 2 weeks ago and had no problems ...
[40-1] SgtSnipey 6 Aug, 2018 @ 7:05am
Does this still work?
gglobot  [author] 22 Jun, 2018 @ 10:08am
4m/s = 14.6 km/h
you are clearly going too fast... drilling should be at speed around 0.5m/s (1.8km/h), which is a very fast drilling speed for a drill of this size.
Zelborg 22 May, 2018 @ 7:28pm
Mods fine, people are just complaining that they have to drive carefully with giant drills in space. Seems legical tbh. I havent broken any of mine so far without it being user error. Maybe work on your piloting skills, people!
ApocTheWanderer 1 May, 2018 @ 1:37pm
I was going like 2km/h if that and it instantly broke.
gglobot  [author] 1 May, 2018 @ 12:41pm
I want to say that if you want to crash at 36 or 40 km/h into hard rock... it is not surprising that you break your drill. I won't change this.
ApocTheWanderer 23 Mar, 2018 @ 12:38pm
Instabroke for me and the model didn't load....

What I am wondering about is why this drill has a mining range that is less than its own volume.
Why does this drill, which is something the game definitely needs (vanilla large ship drill sucks), not drill its own volume (which is a cube) out?
Anomaly-Friend 17 Jan, 2018 @ 11:02am
You're wrong. It keeps breaking if I hit ANYTHING going more than 10 m/s. Lost over 150k plat ore because it smashed into the asteroid at 11 m/s and it broke and then the server wiped it.
gglobot  [author] 13 Jan, 2018 @ 6:53am
@jokerace45 : I used it a few weeks ago and it was fine
jokerace45 11 Jan, 2018 @ 2:36pm
Does this thing still break if it contacts something at arround 20m/s or more ?
gglobot  [author] 6 Dec, 2017 @ 4:18pm
@The Witch... In August, I didn't find issues with the mod so I didn't make any changes.
I recently restarted playing and everything is fine. The bound box seems ok to be able to place the EarthBreaker drill without much difficulties.
(My server has been wiped and is back with fresh start)

Love the comment on Aug 11th gglobot, since you were snide on the orignal mod's page about the original author not taking the time to update it....now you are not so willing to keep it up either. I get it though, keeping up with all the changes is a huge pain. Now you see why so many are left "abandonded" or not updated. I am in the same boat, there are many that I have that needed tweaked and finding the time and the energy to do it was rough.
Not trying to be too rude, I know it sounds like I am, now you see why these things happen. :)
Makicz 27 Aug, 2017 @ 9:57am
i love this
Wolfengang 11 Aug, 2017 @ 8:35am
ive got back into the game recently, i keep hoping for an updated earthbreaker. every server needs this mod, helps reduce lag and i just love this drill.
gglobot  [author] 11 Aug, 2017 @ 1:43am
I don't really play space engineer anymore since server code is still really poorly optimized and multi-threading is poorly coded. So I didn't made any update recently.
maybe next week i will have a look at it.
Wolfengang 10 Aug, 2017 @ 8:03pm
is there a recent update for this?
Darelius 10 Jun, 2017 @ 6:43pm
Here is a weird problem:
After some hours of play - the drill seems to get rid of all functions
It only has the option "use conveyor" and has inventory but nothing alse and cannot drill anymore
Any idea?
gglobot  [author] 27 May, 2017 @ 6:10pm
@Slugg ... I tested it and got no issue with placement of the big drill on large ship
Slugg 22 May, 2017 @ 12:58pm
I can't get it to attach to a large ship. Every time it's free floating in space.
Riz 2 May, 2017 @ 4:31pm
Thanks for this fix! There's a typo in the mod name, though. The H is missing.
gglobot  [author] 6 Apr, 2017 @ 10:32am
I have just tested the mod with the last patch and it seems to work for me ...
Malicious Mongoose 5 Apr, 2017 @ 9:20pm
This mod worked earlier today and now I have had 3 drills in a row just explode when I try to drill with them...
Jarquafelmu 10 Jan, 2017 @ 10:26pm
you're the MVP gglobot
gglobot  [author] 10 Jan, 2017 @ 2:54pm
I have fixed the placement of earth breaker drill by increasing the placement distance for large block in survival ...
DonCDXX 10 Jan, 2017 @ 11:22am
@Jarquafelmu BP the drill and position with a projector. I know it's weird to have a 1 block bp, but it really helps with the giant blocks.
gglobot  [author] 9 Jan, 2017 @ 1:03pm
to place it in survival you should place your astraunot on the side of the drill you want to place... it is not easy to target the right spot like it but this is how i do.
Jarquafelmu 7 Jan, 2017 @ 11:49am
Anyone have any hints on how to place the earthbreaker drill on an existing large ship? It's so large that I end up being in the placement area when trying to place it. The only way I've been able to make it work is if I use it as the first piece and build the ship from it.

I'm not complaining on its size, I love it. Just wondering if anyone has any hints on placing it.
Jarquafelmu 7 Jan, 2017 @ 11:47am
Tried to say this last night but was having internet issues, thank you gglobot for fixing this. You're awesome!
Nomida (Sim) 6 Jan, 2017 @ 5:55pm
Yes, it works perfectly! Conveniently, the previously placed Small Earthbreaker drills that were placed when trying to make the standard drills, have remained Earthbreakers, but you can now place the small version. Thanks again!!!
gglobot  [author] 6 Jan, 2017 @ 2:47pm
It should be OK now
gglobot  [author] 6 Jan, 2017 @ 2:42pm
I think I found the bug ... it will be fixed soon
Nomida (Sim) 5 Jan, 2017 @ 11:29pm
I am having Jarquafelmu's issue as well. When you try to place stock small drills it instead tried to place the small Earthbreaker.

Thanks for the fix BTW!
gglobot  [author] 5 Jan, 2017 @ 1:23pm
@Jarquafelmu
I never had this problem ... I didn't touch textures, the only things I did was to add the missing parameters into the xml file.
Jarquafelmu 5 Jan, 2017 @ 2:56am
Thank you for updating this mod to the new textures. In my game the small ship earth breaker replaced the small ship drill in the G menu. Do you know if that was a problem of the base mod or here?
