Thanks Aphexamine - this was very useful. Margins that I found worked best for displaying the compass in the top right corner near the statuses:

Horizontal: 250
Vetical: 50

Also, modinfo.lua points to the wrong forum link, so players can't open the mod page through the in-game button. At line 15, change:

forumthread = "25059-Download-Sample-Mods"

to

forumthread = ""

This will make it automatically point to the workshop page. Otherwise, you can also provide a relevant forum link instead.

Improved guide to configure the mod:

Increasing the value for Horizontal Margin moves the icon to the left while decreasing it moves it to the right.
Increasing the value for Vertical Margin moves the icon down while decreasing it moves it up.

To set the compass in the top right hand corner with all the other status icons.
Horizontal Alignment: Right
Vertical Alignment: Top
Horizontal Margin: 350 (I have it set centre-right, if you would like it to be with the status icons set this to about 150-200)
Vertical Margin: 50

I had to log in and out of the game about 20-30 times to work this out, hopefully someone else reads this and I save you the time.

Helpful. Could you pls add an option to adjust the coordinate of the compass on the screen so that it could be placed anywhere? Right now If I choose "right" or "left" in the option, the circle center of the compass will be just at the edge of screen, and only half of the compass could be seen.Thanks anyway.

No, issue is still there. I'm not sure where's the screen resizing event, and since it's something really minor I haven't attempted to fix it yet.

It only works on the host not all the players.

Thank you for your report, I'll fix it later this week.

When I resize the window with the game in windowed mode, the compass will appear somewhere else and grow smaller/larger.
