You have to use the change weapon key and it cycles back and forth from main gun to mg. Have a look at the game key bindings to see which key it is. I do not know which one it is offhand I have it bound to a key on my game controller in my player profile.

There's only one thing else, I cannot find how to use the MG installed in tank turret. Do I have to swich into it by pressing "F" like in the Iron Front: 1944?

You have to have an ammo truck or container on the map and all you have to do is drive near it and an icon pops up and you have the option of accepting the offer to refuel repair or rearm. On some maps with support mode switched on and activated you can call for those things and a vehicle comes out to you and does it.

The key thing is the mission has to support it and the units that do the supporting have to be on the map and activated.

It does not happen on its own in a standard mission.

All the Russian tanks have a few rounds of APCR hart kern solid shot tungsten ammo that would be capable of penetrating a Tiger from the front. The tiger has about 100mm of front armour and the APCR round on the T34/76 can penetrate to about that if very close, say under 100m. At 100m the penetration is 90mm and should not come through and if it is then the main game needs adjustment. The normal T34/76 AP round can penetrate to 86mm at 100m.

I did do as part of my mod a tank gun penetration correction. However the main game changed their code around so much that it kep getting overwritten or made errors and so I removed mine and will put it back when the main game coding has settled down and does not change location as it has done in the past and undone my work.

Thanks. I've noticed something, t-34-85 can pen tiger 1's front armor after couple shoots, usually tank starts Burning. Is it realistic?

The mod will always work if loaded last in the mod lineup. If other mods come after it in the load sequence that might overwrite the code with their own version.

Try altering the load sequence and see if it changes.

As I write this there is a big ARMA3 update downloading, it could be that something in the main game has changed that has affected the mod. I will have a look and find out and report back.

Another tip is to make sure that this mod is the last one in the load order so that is writes over any other AI mod that might be there and also the core programming. The last arma mod loaded have code precedence.

Hey Alan, been fidigiting with your mod for use with my unit for about a week now. I had it working great, tanks acted just as described. We tested some other AI mods, didnt like them, so we got rid of them. Now Smarter Tanks doesnt seem to work correctly anymore even with the other mods not installed. Tanks wont rotate their turrest to face the threats. Wont fire main weapons (only MGs), at enemy infantry. Any ideas on what might be causing the issue?

Hello Madmedic, the smarter tanks should work on those ones too. If not let me know and I can add the weapons to the list in an update. IF I can open the FOW data to read the files, some modders lock their stuff and so one cannot see it to develop it further.

Hello birkenmoped , Yes you are right it does do a bit more. What it does in a nutshell is:
1. Provides more realistic penetration and hit values.
2. New loading sounds.
3. The world famous shell fly sound

When not loaded the game defaults back to the stock settings which are not too bad and I had a hand in helping develop.

the rp_weapons.pbo is doing only the shell fly/buzzing sound or is it doing also some other tweaks to the weapons?

I know you wrote "I made the shell fly sound seperate so that one could use it in any mod and also remove it if it clashed with other mods such as ACE" but from the name of the .pbo rp_weapons I thought it could maybe doing something more and so I better ask for this again! ;-)

Hello birkenmoped and thanks for your comments and questions. The answers to your questions are:
1. This smarter tanks mod includes all the IFA3_AIO_Lite mod and Liberation mod tanks and anything that carries a weapon that is a threat to a tank. It also has the vanilla A3 tanks in it.
2. You need this mod on this page we are corresponding on for IFA3 and Liberation and Geist.
3. It is not in the smarter tanks mod but there is a version in the RealPanzer mod which can be removed if that shell buzzing sound occurs when using ACE by removinng the pbo called rp_weapons. I must add that as a note in the instructions to that mod. I made the shell fly sound seperate so that one could use it in any mod and also remove it if it clashed with other mods such as ACE.

1. Is your "Smarter Tanks"-mod included or planned to get included in the IFA3_AIO_Lite? If not....
2. Which of the "Smarter Tank"-mods is needed if I use only IFA3_AIO_Lite, Faces of War and Geist and not the IFA3 Liberation?
3. Is your "Tank Shell Fly Sound"-mod included in one of your other mods "Smarter Tanks" and/or "RealPanzer"?

Hello Gogobar, HE fire in the game and in real life has no tracer and so is hard to see. That you cannot see the HE shot flying is not influenced by this mod, it would be the same without it.

Hello Cpt Bartels, Yes we would and I would like to rework the CSA mod tanks however the PBOs are encrypted so that one cannot open them and work on them. The Liberation mod files are open and so I can work on those and am doing so now. We need to persuade the CSA poeople to be more open in the spirit of the A3 community and what makes it great = massive user content and modding.

Hello Cpt Bartels, the way A3 works is that the last PBO loaded has precedence in the coding. So the IF44 version of smarter tanks is overwritten by my one if my one is loaded last. The programming is almost identical except that my one also contains the Liberation mod weapons and vehicles and the IF44 one does not.

My Iron Front Real Panzer 44 mod is for improving how the tanks and vehicles look, sound and handle and does not have a smarter tanks file in it and so the game will use the smarter tanks PBO in the main game if no other one is loaded.

No conflicts in other words.

Hello WFway, this mod works in Vanilla A3 and IF44 mod and IFA3 Liberation mod. It does not work with any other mods as one needs to hard code the weapons into the weapons list in the code. If the weapon is not listed then the AI tanker does not see it and do any special action.

I am planning to extend coverage to the Red Hammer USSR and USA mod one day as I play that a lot.

Its a great mod. I want know its just works with tanks in IFA3? Or all of tanks? I test it , and didnt saw any other tanks will use HE but IFA3. I have downloaded smarter tanks from armaholic,it doesn't work,why they can not use HE?
