these textures work pretty well for the iphone 12 and 13 models i have ported nice work so i guess these base textures are useful on electronic props

the two different indentically shaped meshes are rendering two different materials at the same time
cynaraos  [author] 9 Jul, 2022 @ 1:35pm
also. because I do my metallic paint materials in a multi-layer system like that, that's the reason why they won't work on any car models that don't have paint meshes configured in the same way

as far as I know that is the only way the source engine lets me have multiple separate reflection layers in a single mesh
cynaraos  [author] 9 Jul, 2022 @ 12:44pm
my "paintbase" material is for the solid non-transparent base of a paint which has its own reflection layer, my "paintadd" material is a transparent extra layer of reflection, with a specific technique I use when putting together my car models I use those two separate materials to render two different instances of the same 3d mesh that makes up the car's body so I can properly replicate the two separate reflection layers that metallic paints have in real life

hmm seems complicated I may or may not be able to do it buuut i'll add you later on today so we can discuss it so we dont blow up your comment section thank you for the help.

the "paintbase_[x]" and separate "paintadd_[x]" material setup system I use in my own models is simply fundamentally incompatible with proper use in models like those of TDM's, I can expand on why if you want me to

I looked through the comments and didnt see anything that really helped me but how would I transfer this paint material to another car like TDM's vehicles. I tried it on his prius model with the sub material tool but it turned the car black and gave a little reflection from where my flashlight was so can someone please help. Thank you

Damn son how you do this..
cynaraos  [author] 26 Aug, 2017 @ 4:24pm
1. have a pretty good idea of what makes things look realistic and authentic
2. look at how I've set up my materials
3. very optionally: figure out phong warp textures. they can help with really glossy things but they're not as useful for more matte things - without them you can still get most of the way there in regards to realism
that's it - mostly just things that I think a tutorial isn't really useful for, since if you have a good eye for realism, you should be able to figure out how you can do stuff as properly as you can with Source materials. it started to come to me naturally, even a bit before I started experimenting with Source modelling about two years ago.

These are sooooo cool and well made, can you make a tutorial on it later or at least record it when you'll make another material? It would be nice.

Sanders 15 Mar, 2017 @ 1:33pm

cynaraos  [author] 15 Mar, 2017 @ 1:33pm
I'll try doing that, while making it a serverside variable.
Sanders 15 Mar, 2017 @ 1:30pm
can you add them to the material tool?
