Maybe.. You can remove Incubus Succubus and Lil Brim but then this item can felt underpowered again.. With every familiar and no BFF we can hope best familiars.. A little bit luck based.. Maybe Incubus Succubus and Lil Brim can get luck down?

The BFF effect was actually added in the last update as without it the item definitely felt a little underpowered. Do you think that a stat boost to Isaac each time it is used would be better? Or perhaps removing some of the less powerful familiars from the item pool?

Would you mind disabling your other mods, and checking that it is definitely my item causing the problem? As I say, I've tried to recreate it but it doesn't affect my framerate at all

im having the same problem with some mods, i had no problem with yours since today i got it quite some times and i cant pick it anymore. its not even the usage of it that drops it just when you pick it up

Hi Solon, i've just tested it and mine runs at 60fps, what kind of spec is the pc you're running it on, and how many mods do you have installed? I'd be interested to hear if anyone else is having the same problem

The familiars, and the loss of hearts, is permanent. The BFFs effect is temporary though. I guess it's more like a potato peeler than monster manual

Maybe they should last for the whole floor, instead of the whole run, and only take a half-heart!

Love this idea, Monster Manuel, but with infinite charges, while taking health! I do however think it should be only half-hearts that are taken away.

I have updated it so that the item now gives BFFs while held. Hope this makes it a little less underpowered. Enjoy!

Hm. That's also a good solution.
Maybe you should do something like the potato peeler and give isaac +1 luck and +1 range when used? Or any other stat.

So I played a few runs that way and it's just too OP, you get a couple of soul hearts and then just use the book every time you see a heart, I ended up with 7 familiars by the end of the burning basement.
I'm thinking maybe giving the BFFs effect while holding the book might be the way to go

I think it would be more useful like that and it may change your opinion in getting that sweet devi ldeal because if you have no heart containers you couldn't use it.

A way to balance it would be you drain all of your red hearts to spawn a familiar, then, if you have half a red heart/ X ammounts of soul hearts you can't use the item.

Yeah that's pretty fair, this was my first Isaac mod and this was just a kind of cool idea I had that I could use to test out the API. I might look at removing some of the worse familiars to balance the pool a little and make it more playable

Awesome idea! Only feedback I can give is to maybe make the book a different colour. On first glance it appears rather simular to the bible. Other than that, the sprite is fine. :)
