Never put this modification on the extension. Do not follow the advice in the comments. You will destroy all your saves irrevocably! The path burns in hell the code of the developers of the original game

You dont have to create a new character when installing/uninstalling this mod

Open the Starbound game folder and go to /Starbound/storage/player, copy the .player file to /Starbound/win32/

Now open CMD and navigate to the directory (you can open it fast in the Address bar of the Windows Explorer when you type in there cmd instead of the path)

Now type in "dump_versioned_json.exe " <-- space is required
Drag the .player file into the Terminal and than drag and drop it again but this time rename the .player to .json [Enter]

Now you have a .json file that you can open with a texteditor
Search now with CTLR + F for ""customBar""

This is your object that defines the object that defines what you have in your hotbar.
You have to replace the whole thing "customBar" but only this! Not customBarGroup!

Replace it with this in my example I use the 10 Slots variant!

"customBar" : [
[
[null, null], [null, null], [null, null], [null, null], [null, null], [null, null], [null, null], [null, null], [null, null], [null, null]
], [
[null, null], [null, null], [null, null], [null, null], [null, null], [null, null], [null, null], [null, null], [null, null], [null, null]
]
],

This means first 10 Slots and the other page 10 Slots, if you now add , [null, null], [null, null] at each line you can use it for the 12 Slot variant. But watch out not putting an comma at the end of the "null]"

Now save and go back to the terminal and now do the same backwards with make_versioned_json.exe

My example
make_versioned_json.exe B:\Games\Steam\steamapps\common\Starbound\win32\e54e17dcf74bb5f6652d4701f60c29c4.json B:\Games\Steam\steamapps\common\Starbound\win32\e54e17dcf74bb5f6652d4701f60c29c4.player

If there comes an error you have a wrong syntax at a line!
If not put the .player file back to the player directory

so..ehm...why is there a graphical bug again?
FallingBelowZero 6 May, 2019 @ 6:01pm
@Toebaz you'll prolly need to make a new character

if used with non-widescreens, it will clip with the right notifications.
Rorschaxe 10 Jun, 2017 @ 4:06pm
It clips through the character hud. Is it just my monitor or is it the mod?

I'm guessing that's the known issue with Steam where sometimes it can fail to load mods that were installed via the workshop, it's not normally a problem with most mods but can cause serious problems with hotbar and inventory mods. There's a workaround for this on the starbound forum, it's linked in the description of the mod if you're interested.

The weird thing is that it only happens on occasion. Seems like whenever I start the mod a second time after adding some mods (that I don't think have anything to do with this) it just goes haywire.

@Gold Kool-Aid Dogan - Sorry for the late reply, I have honestly not come across that before, very strange, all I can think of is that maybe the mod somehow didn't install correctly or got corrupt. You could try unsubscribing and letting Steam delete he mod and then resubscribing for a fresh copy. Let me know if you get it fixed.

Looks like this [imgur.com]

So when I loaded up the game with this mod, the slots were available, but the actual hotbar was off center and cut itself off. Any way to fix this?

I might have actually found a way around the character deletion! Back up your storage folder prior to installing,Singh Starbound, then put the storage folder back into the Starbound folder.

I'm going to say no but in actuality it's a bit more confusing, SOMETIMES when downgrading to a lower amount of slots, the characters will still show up, I have no idea why and it doesn't do it every time, quite rarely actually. Upgrading to higher amounts has never had old characters show up, at least for me.
Photosynthetic 28 Apr, 2017 @ 2:14pm
If I were to switch between the 8, 10, and 20-slot mods, then, the characters probably wouldn't transfer, would they?
xBleedingSoulx  [author] 15 Mar, 2017 @ 1:35pm
I honestly have no idea why they've made it that way but I'm guessing they have a reason. Basically from what I can tell, the amount of slots is stored in the save file, when loading the game, it checks the current amount of action bar slots against the amount stored in the save file of each character and if they don't match, they don't show up as selectable characters.

Wait, why and how exactly do Starbound limitations make characters pre-download unusable? .ww,
