It's probably not a plasma sword like a true lightsaber and instead the blade is formed by coils of monofilament / cer-met alloy particles ejected out of the hilt, suspended in a magnetic field when the contraption turns on. And all the cooler for it. Cuts with the temporary, self sharpening monoedge, resists lightsabers by virtue of the containment field. And has inertia. Pure Mando brilliance.
