Cool but there should be something about them reacting to attacks not targeted toward them specially,the archon grabbed me on first turn cause I attacked another dude,then I went overwatch and he slam dunked me,felt dumb cause nothing was for him here

omfg i wish i knew this mod before, i had to cheese the berserk queen by not getting in her vision so she doesn't move, and let 2 lost slap the shit out of her for like 10 turns

Yeah, this is great. Instead of forcing Ruler fights to conclude in 1 turn or less, otherwise risking your entire squad, I really think this is the way to go along with Dodge and Defense bonuses.

I'm curious though, I'm currently testing how well the "Canon Avatar" mod works with a few others, and was curious: does this mod affect any unit with the Ruler Reaction ability, or does it edit each Ruler individually?

Well, I just had encountered the Berzerker Queen, and she didn't respond to anything. Banish, Dual-shot or single fire. She had each ruler reaction turn (except for Banish, nothing happened, and for movement, but this, is intended in mod's feature), she has lost health because of burning and bleeding each of those turns, but she didn't manage to move and smash.

This mod is the only one touching ruler reaction. So there's a question mark for me about the reliability.

@Dragonlord: That would be a bug in the other mod then. They need to correctly set the hostility of the action in the action template.

Well i guess it doesn't play well with other mods. Hitting it with Rockets from IRIDARs mod doesn't count as aggressive action. Oh well.

First time I got in long enough to encounter a ruler, he couldn't take any actions at all so I killed him with immense ease.

Thanks a lot! It is my first playthrough with XCOM 2 + Alien Hunters DLC and this reaction perk makes it so unbearable I nearly refunded the whole game...

This will be so useful in my current run. Just came across the Archon King, and trying to deal with a 200+ hp enemy (I have beta strike on) will be so much easier with the turned down Ruler Reactions.

Thank you so much dude, just getting back into XCOM 2 and forgot about the rulers and how overpowered they were. I'd be having a tough fight already and out of nowhere alien chuck norris jumps in and roundhouse kicks each one of my soldiers to oblivion.

Honestly, the fact that this isn't in the base game is a testament to how poorly thought out the Alien Rulers DLC turned out to be.


Regardless, I'm very thankful for this mod and consider it 100% required when Alien Rulers are enabled. Very much recommend this one.

I don't think they are immersion breaking... We are talking about a turn-based game here to begin with.
I think the mechanic of reactions is supposed to represent that rulers are extremely agressive AND extremely fast, way faster than any other enemy. Its like a scene from a movie where a squad of soldiers meets an enemy so fast they can barely understand what is happening.

That being sad, rulets are overpowered simply because they can accidentally combine with normal enemy forces, which is an overkill.

Fighting a ruler dead on seems to be fun enough. It stops being fun when a bunch of mutons join the scene mid-fight when half of your soldier already used their turns.
If rulets were supposed to bring a concept of a boss, they brought the wrong kid - the gank squad one.

This'll be useful. I think the rulers reactions are immersion breaking and unrealistic, the way they react really gnaws at the tactics aspect of the game. With this it should be remedied, as they react to certain types of actions it makes the player think more of what actions to take.

So I got this, and it worked fine for the initial encounter with the Viper King... but my subsequent encounter with the Berserker Queen had her raging and smashing at every single movement. Any thoughts?

Thanks for this. If turn based games are a simulation of your whole team acting at the same time, basically Alien Rulers move and act at an unfathomably fast rate. Anything to nerf them within reason!

Upon attempting to run the game from the launcher with this mod activated, the game will crash before it can run, for me.

Confirmed through trial and error that it is only this mod, it does not seem to be an issue of compatibility with other mods.

i downloaded lots of mods and when i tried launching it kept saying the same crash msg and then i tried removing the mods i thought wer the cause,when i finally have the remaining mods i used bfore the lots of mods downloaded it stil giving the same bullcrap only by deselecting all the wotc mods was i able 2 launch the game,i xit selected my usual mods and it gave me the same shit so i finally decided 2 uninstal and then installing it again if this doesnt work goodbye wotc 4 the rest of my life!

Repeaters are redundant most of the game, but goddamn are they good against rulers (if they work, that is).
I recommend using mods to be able to put 3 or even 4 weapon upgrades onto your guns. Then you can put repeater on almost every gun without sacrificing other mods.

A tip for killing the Rulers. I shot one with a Repeater as part of an overwatch shot and it got executed. Their true purpose revealed, repeaters are the one true modification.

Rulers are basically stupid. The only viable strategies I've found is either showering them with grenades, using stuns/freezes and triggering a 5 man overwatch splattering. Having them react to movement and reloads basically breaks them. Thanks.

@Dragon32 ahaaa. cheers. I find I don't even need it with Long War 2 due to the fact I didn't run into rulers until I was almost fully leveled with full tech tree. The vanilla and DLC missions are a cake walk after dealing with LW2.

For reasons unknown the mod dissapeard from my mod list (even though i'm still subscribed) neither could i find it in my mod config...

Explains why viper king oppened the rift when my heavy moved.

@Broccoli: You could use this one and set the percentages to 0%. But then the ruler won't ever do anything. IIRC there's one called "Rulers take normal turns" that makes them (extremely easy) normal units.
