Hmmm. I'm quite sure that this is incompatible with like Defensive turrets and the rework of the turrets with Combat extended... As the option does not show up.

The game checks if a turret is manned before allowing you to set target. The only thing this mod does is remove that check. So idk where your fps drop would come from

Well, I've noticed a weird issue with fps when you select any target for a turret
When the turres auto select targets there is no loss in fps.
