Just like color vs colour, harbor vs harbour, labor vs labour, etc. American English has dropped the (unpronounced) "u" in most of those words. Interestingly enough, the "our" spellings were actually French influenced where some Britished advocated to drop the (unpronounced) "u"s. That idea was embraced by the US. In the cases here the "u" is pronounced, it still exists in American English (example: contour). Whoever thought you'd get some linguistic history in a Rust thread of naked wanders? :-D.
