Can you modify this so it doesn't apply to city-states? Otherwise they completely dominate the landmass.

Works fine except the 5 hex rule is not enforced across a body of water, i.e. a seperate landmass.

doesn't work

Muchas Gracias @El Guapo! I think I tried it beside the incompatibility warning and didn´t work, but maybe is the fact that You have to activate it "every time" you launch. Thank You!
El Guapo 15 Feb, 2019 @ 10:29am
You have to manually activate the mod each time you launch the game.
El Guapo 15 Feb, 2019 @ 9:09am
@Tal @Rink
The mod still works. The game tells you that it's incompatible and deactivates it, but you can still re-activate it. I already checked in-game, built a settler and the 5 hex distance is still required.
So just ignore the warning!

This mod will most likely always remain compatible cause the SQL-command isn't conflicting with any update whatsoever.

I am also interested in if you'll update your mods for GS

Thanks for this mod man! I´ve been playing with it all my games since I founed it, I´t´s completelly neccessary for me becasue I hate how close AI settle and also incentivate playing tall (wich I love). Are You adding compatibility with gathering storm?? Say yes please!!!! Thanks so much

I ahve the same problem as warlordc903
Tanstaafl 9 Sep, 2018 @ 11:14am
When using R&F it imposes the distance limit on my cities but doesn't effect the AI.

This mod works fine when I first start a game and play it, but then when reloading the game it's no longer listed in the additional content for the save file game. Anyone know what's up with that?

Works with RnF

Is working with Rise and fall?
Sir Den Ham, Pork Master 25 Feb, 2018 @ 3:54pm
Cosmic Fox is thinking of stealing your account...... He links you to a website to ask info.
GatherPossums 17 Feb, 2018 @ 4:32pm
May not be working with Rise and Fall - I would return to the main menu on map generation, and after disabling this (I have many other mods) it was able to generate.

So maybe this mod, maybe a long list of others.
KrumStrashni 16 Feb, 2018 @ 2:00am
is it working still?

Has anyone tried to add this a game in progress? I'd like for the first part of the game to have normal spacing then add in this mod for the second half to keep mid and late game city spamming down.

hi. i realy like this mod. i was always keen on playin the game with less but better cities not only for myself but also for the enemy. with this in mind, do you know if it is possible to restrict the maximum number of cities all players (ai included) can build? this sounds like a realy small mod with only a few lines but i have no idea where to look since its totally different from for example leader modding ... i believe this would also fit well with your mods.

thank you

not working

If you use the 5+ distance variants of this i recomend the 'Enhanced forts' mod on the workshop with these. It causes forts to grand territory (like the civ 5 great general forts) Useful for nabbing only resources the game likes to spawn just out of reach which can be tricky with distancing restrictions.

doesnt seem enuf i try 8 n see, these cities neeed heaps room to spread out n thrive

Brazil just built a city 4 squares from my capital, does this mod really work?
vvvdao 15 Apr, 2017 @ 7:01pm
Dear von Jahgmann! It seems that 4 hexes between cities is the best decision. Many thanks for this mod! But if the culture of new cities is small as it is now – there will be really big problems with barbarians between cities. The good example is Russian empire with large starting culture. Will it be difficult for you to make one more very special mod including 4 hexes between cities and large starting culture for all cities of all civilizations? It seems that the good balance will also need to add some more culture for Russian cities. What do you think about that? Waiting for reply. Many thanks! Vladimir.

This mod and a few of your other hex mods have been LIFESAVERS! Freaking AI spam can rreally put a gal in a mood:steamfacepalm: ;). So great work and many thanks :steamhappy:

Further away the city may be problem for landless maps, unless you change the water placement when setting up a new game in advance game settings. I'll stick with the 4 unless a 3.7(like city border followed by a nuetral city border colour) spacing mod exists.

Follow up comment: This mod does not work well with the "Island Plates" map mode.. i have started numourous games where I have found original city-state settlers that were unable to start their city due to the extra hex requirement. (due to lack of land from the map mode). Pangea and other land heavy maps works wonderfully.

I really enjoy the mod, but I keep thinking it would be fine if it was just 4 away. Trying to play on Deity, on a huge map, and with one fewer civ than standard, and I am getting 2 civs (sometimes more) starting really close to me now. The mod basically turns that 4 Settler Deity start and makes it like a 6 settler start in how big an area they have. Might just need to delete 3 civs for balance. Still an amazing mod.
Sinner 22 Mar, 2017 @ 11:35pm
Thanks for this mod, having the AI spam cities so close to you drives me nuts.
Militant 20 Mar, 2017 @ 11:07am
This is deffinitely needed... with encampments, taking AI cities that are heavily clustered is really really painful, a couple archers can easily defend vs 20 units.. kinda OP by default..
Amicus 20 Mar, 2017 @ 6:06am
But why!
von Jahgmann  [author] 19 Mar, 2017 @ 7:42pm
@CMLAest --- does not affect the workable city radius, just affects how close other cities can be built near existing cities.
Amicus 19 Mar, 2017 @ 5:42pm
Does this make the 5 tile range workable by the city?
von Jahgmann  [author] 18 Mar, 2017 @ 10:45am
@Effini - I haven't tried changing the spam setting mid game. Pretty sure there is no workaround for that. Thanks for the tip. When I eventually post an update, I will add a cautionary note.
Effini 17 Mar, 2017 @ 4:52pm
Just FYI, I had a couple crashes taking a city within 5 hexes. It was a game I loaded the mod part way through. Disabling worked. Great mod though. AI city spamming is the worst.
von Jahgmann  [author] 15 Mar, 2017 @ 6:04am
Glad some of you are enjoying the game tweak. I might need to update the game help text. I also suspect this mod does not affect islands. Uncertain if continents would be a factor either... time will tell.
MaX-NOR 14 Mar, 2017 @ 10:23am
have been waiting for this ! Thank you
CarFun 14 Mar, 2017 @ 6:45am
Thanks a lot!
Giovanni Boss 13 Mar, 2017 @ 9:53pm
Whle it does look great I wonder if you could make s it only affects Civilizations while leaving city states limiting the settling in three tiles only. Is it doable? Anyway, thanks. =D
Skalde 13 Mar, 2017 @ 8:07am
Love it. Love the space around you. An not have other civs city right up to your own.🖒
Skalde 13 Mar, 2017 @ 2:07am
Sounds great🖒
von Jahgmann  [author] 12 Mar, 2017 @ 9:22pm
This is a simple mod that reduces city spam (primarily on the AI's end of things). Although I created mods for cities spaced at 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 or 9 hexes away --- I personally play at 5.

Although not my thing, if I find a way to increase spam (which some requested in Civ5), I will create mods for 2 or 3 spacing too.

Cheers,
von Jahgmann
