It's meant to keep digging straight and be reversed out. The drill coverage is wider than the ship itself, but it wasn't really meant to do a 180⁰ turn to back home, just reverse until you're out. If that's not working probably, maybe there was a change with the game's mechanics. After all this design is from 2021. If it's not working as intended I may revisit it and fix. Thanks for playing

its nice but a big issue with it, it gets stuck on literally everything, it doesn't have side drills so it cannot manuver
Rodrigo  [author] 20 May, 2023 @ 1:38am
6 years? Time really flies :steamsad:
MixedMethods 20 May, 2023 @ 12:26am
Almost 6 years since I last commented and just want to give my appreciation for your awesome designs, still going strong! :tropicanstar::tropicanstar::tropicanstar::tropicanstar::tropicanstar:

Thanks for the appreciation, also the Mk5 is available. Have fun !
Chuckles from Canada 6 Apr, 2023 @ 6:08am
In my opinion the best small block heavy miner! I ALWAYS build it in my survival games. It takes a while to build, but it's definitely worth the time and ressources. Well done, sir!

Walter tell me a bit more on whats going on, are you on space? moon? planet?
Dricus Du Plessis 13 May, 2022 @ 7:36am
It wont move I can turn it around but it wont lift off
Rodrigo  [author] 7 Sep, 2021 @ 3:02am
Fly? as in within a planet? there's no reason for it not to fly in space that is, unless its either locked by a landing gear, connector, or it has no power.
WhoppingPloppper 7 Sep, 2021 @ 2:59am
I cant get this ship to fly and i dont think tis damaged someone help
Rodrigo  [author] 2 Sep, 2021 @ 1:59am
Hey there Sasin,

I can't see many solutions other than to add more thrusters or actually don't fill it up entirely. From what i gather when you mine on the moon you gotta reverse to get out of the hole you created and reverse thrusters are difficult because they're facing forward and theres limited space for that, one solution would to go H2 if you really want to fill it up completely and still be able to move on the moon, would require a bit of fiddling and it is something i have consdered before on a mk5 version, I even started it, but i couldnt come to finish as the way things are going with SE made me less inclined to play/build over the past year and a half.
Raven 1 Sep, 2021 @ 2:32pm
I love the Miner!
I have no issues with it in no gravity environments, However, do you have any suggestions on converting it to Moon-based operations? I've noticed with a full load it doesn't lift off the ground at all and I'd have to dump the load to lighten it.
Rodrigo  [author] 8 Aug, 2021 @ 1:04pm
Yep, its on the bottom on this very page, mostly i fixed some blocks that changed with the newest game updates, no need to worry about these, furthermore i moved the screens closed to the cockpit so the info there can be better viewed, furthermored changed the armor to the fully clean armor skin, and fixed the projector so that it can be quite easily repaired now
Chive 8 Aug, 2021 @ 11:56am
Whats the update ? There's no changenotes....
Rodrigo  [author] 2 Aug, 2021 @ 10:49am
@Hronos47 thanks, i'll take a look, its very possible that it is indeed related to game updates, should be a quick fix.
Hronos47 2 Aug, 2021 @ 8:05am
Hi, it seems the projector is broken, when I turn it on, it projects over the parts that are already built, and saying 68 blocks still need to be built.
Possible that the new dlc has broken stuff for this ships repair projector, and probably for other ships too.
jakarra 15 Jul, 2020 @ 2:44am
thank you sir
Rodrigo  [author] 14 Jul, 2020 @ 9:55am
@jakarra, you could disassemble portions of the top armor to fit em, ship itself is built around 10 large cargo containers, so if you expose the rear or side armor sections on the top, you can have direct and linked ports for turrets anytime
jakarra 14 Jul, 2020 @ 5:07am
great ship would love to add some small turrets, any place you can suggest I fit them ?
Rodrigo  [author] 14 May, 2020 @ 11:00am
@Adjoint

The reality is that the amount of ores it can carry can match that of a large ship, so when its entirely full, it gets just so heavy that its indeed difficult to move... unfortunately for the amount of cargo capacity it has, i can never tweak it so its agile even when full
Adjoint [PAX] 13 May, 2020 @ 5:09pm
After it reaches 600K weight (jnot even full) , it cant even manouvre it self well :(
usulnet 13 Nov, 2019 @ 2:34am
Yes, I do find that it can get damaged as someone mentioned. My advice to anyone would be very careful trying to move around in tunnels. I can do a full 360 turn eventually but you have to gradually dig out at an angle and make sure not to cut sharply to where the body begins to go into stone. The collision engine will start to go nuts eventually. It has a surprising amount of play in this regard though. Thanks again Captein!
Rodrigo  [author] 8 Nov, 2019 @ 12:20am
@usulnet build to last :steammocking: and I understand your feelings, yet I try to keep everything up to date despite the original release, it seems as though the computer script on this one needs an update, so I'll be doing that later, if you find any issues just let me know and i'll fix.

have fun!
usulnet 7 Nov, 2019 @ 1:27pm
I built this in survival and it is the best miner I've seen so far. I normally don't load things this old but it really holds up. I'd highly recommend. Easy to build, easy to mine and it carries a ton of ore. Thank you!
Rodrigo  [author] 22 Oct, 2018 @ 2:35am
hellby_65 [Fr] thanks mate! glad you enjoy!
hellby-[OIG] 22 Oct, 2018 @ 2:15am
sorry I forgot it was a mod for small jump drive, my bad, but your ship still awesome !!
Rodrigo  [author] 22 Oct, 2018 @ 1:49am
hellby_65 [Fr] can't because jump drives can't be added to small ships
hellby-[OIG] 22 Oct, 2018 @ 12:41am
like it ! but can you add a jump drive ?
Rodrigo  [author] 14 Apr, 2018 @ 12:10pm
@Fuller

whoops, I must have updated it and forgotten to update the self repair project to the latest ! I'll go ahead and fix that and make sure everything else is up to date. Ty vm.
Fuller 14 Apr, 2018 @ 11:40am
The projection from the build-in projector is different from the workshop projection. I fixed it for myself and omg...

I love that ship!!! :steamhappy:
Rodrigo  [author] 30 Dec, 2017 @ 1:27am
Updated a fix for the thruster damage, everything should be fine now, please inform me of any issues
Rodrigo  [author] 18 Nov, 2017 @ 1:13am
Updated! thanks for the feedback
MixedMethods 15 Nov, 2017 @ 8:44pm
Not a problem! Figured I'd let you know as it's a great set, and somewhat up to date compared to most of the workshop hah
Rodrigo  [author] 15 Nov, 2017 @ 9:09am
@Cousin Avi ty for reporting i'll see what changed and fix it asap
MixedMethods 15 Nov, 2017 @ 8:34am
2 of the "internal" front facing spotlights aren't attatched in current version, easily fixed with a light armour block btw!
JDaremo Fireheart 7 Oct, 2017 @ 1:46am
Ah, Kool! I always turn the shake off anyway. Damned annoying.
Rodrigo  [author] 7 Oct, 2017 @ 1:08am
@JDaremo Fireheart its working fine as intented, the 'tools shake' option can still cause problem and always will with any model that tries to mine deep into an asteroid because the ineviable shake will cause collisions with walls and 'pointy' voxels, to be honest even with it on if you dont abuse the model mining too roughly you should be still fine, but with tools shake off, you are completely safe. Regardless, all my models are always updated whenever theres a need to, so othis one will get a revision to make sure everything is working as it always did.
JDaremo Fireheart 6 Oct, 2017 @ 4:54pm
@Captein, anything come out of that issue?
This is working fine still? Hate to devote the resources to build it and it busted.
Rodrigo  [author] 28 Jul, 2017 @ 1:16am
Mike this is most certainly issues related with latest major updates including multi threading, this model has been thru a few revisions to address all the issues and worked smoothly and as intended for so long now. I'll take a look into it and see what could possibly have happened but Ill ask you to disable tools shake option as their are faulty as per essence, they cause unreal collision forces while digging deep causing damage all around in whichever vehicle that goes deep core mining. Please let me now the result and I'll improve the model.
+Mikie 27 Jul, 2017 @ 8:46am
Very pretty and good plan, but... bad execution.

Automatic stuff is broken in the game, ok, so I tried using this manually and it didn't go well. The cockpit being on top got crushed while drilling because of vibrations and killed me. Once I got back to it and built another cockpit to get it home, after I dragged it out of the hole I was amazed by the amount of damage: few completely destroyed drills and masacred conveyor system near them so it was impossible to empty the unconnected drills. I just ended up grinding it all down.

Another shocking thing is that the whole right side of the guts of the ship was GONE right through. This is just from drilling one single hole the depth of the ship. I think it is the ejectors on the bottom of the ship - as they throw out rocks under the ship, it pushes the whole ship upwards crushing the cockpit. Basically you have a cork in the bottle that's growing bigger and bigger until all Hell breaks loose.
Rodrigo  [author] 16 Jun, 2017 @ 4:51pm
@Lord Revan - for sure, those are planned, i still havent decided exactly if i'm making wheeled grinder/welder with an arm or go straight for flying anways, but certainly will get there.
Lord Revan 16 Jun, 2017 @ 3:52pm
Hey, love your designs, any chance of atmo mining/welding/grinding ships in the future? Keep up the great work, please :)
Rodrigo  [author] 5 May, 2017 @ 3:37pm
@zinux hey mate, I can understand how you feel, and thats why the retriever is a series. Mk4 is the biggest model, and its basically 10x large containers wrapped with drills and armor, its really meant to look imposing and make short work of filling it's big storage space with minerals, along with what i'd call a modern design, and that comes with a toll; heavy, rather costly, high block count. I apologize for the trouble with the MP, hopefully once the game is nearing 1.0, it will be just fine for it. I also expect that it will in the end meet the expectations in survival mode despite of the trouble welding it together--It would be ideal that people would use a ship printer for this model. Maybe a Mark 3 would suit your needs better? all of the retriever models are up to date with their minning kit and software, previous versions are just smaller with better mobility, in exchange of the sheer mining power and space.
Zinux 5 May, 2017 @ 2:03pm
ship looks cool, but a right pain to try weld up in survival and resource heavy for what it can mine :) also on MP servers it will exceed block limits as usually drills are limited. Also you get away with less drills -- a gap of one block is fine....
Rodrigo  [author] 13 Apr, 2017 @ 4:58am
@Donis87 Indeed seems like a game issue, but im willing to guess that it gets resolved when the LCD script refreshes. A workaround that should hopefully help with this issue is to add the Programmable block to your action bar and choose to run it with the default argument. Use it's hotkey a few times and this should force the script to run and hopefully fix that on demand.
Donis 12 Apr, 2017 @ 12:13pm
@Captein
i play on high details
i get with eny LCD screen that problem (not only your ship)

Rodrigo  [author] 11 Apr, 2017 @ 3:17pm
I've never experienced issues like that, I could help more if you upload a screenshot. It may be an issue with the game's graphics itself, a lot of things still have LOD issues. Are you o high settings? You may as well try to change the panels color to something other than the default blue I use and see if it helps.
Donis 11 Apr, 2017 @ 3:06pm
@Captein
no it shows all the time LCD just from bright screen goes to blure
Rodrigo  [author] 11 Apr, 2017 @ 2:46pm
@Donis87 lets see if we can troubleshot this, you mean your LCD screens go dark? do they show "offline" or "online" and then resume working? about being hard to see the information on LCDs, you can increase the FONT SIZE in the LCD configuration panel to a more confortable size.
