For any who want to know if it'll work with the latest versions, yes, it will, and I've tested it too, with no issues as of yet, most graphical mods will always work for any version of the game, since it's just a graphical mod.
Arthur Revan 4 Mar, 2018 @ 6:02am
@skud13
In the older versions, do you used Pain.net to create galaxy background (stars.dds)?

If so, can you tell me what save settings have you used. Because mine is always black in game.
Gbrille 25 Sep, 2017 @ 8:32pm
1.8 compatible ?
ArmouredGuardian 12 Sep, 2017 @ 6:15am
How do i get this to work on a mac?
shadowofneptune 17 May, 2017 @ 8:26pm
Thanks!
skud13  [author] 14 May, 2017 @ 5:04pm
That link to Paint.Net , it's not the website the software is from lol.
skud13  [author] 14 May, 2017 @ 5:02pm
@Matt the Czar, I took the original .dds file and opened it in Paint.Net , saved it as a PNG and then edited that PNG in Photoshop, saved it, then opened the PNG in Paint.Net and saved it as a .dds file with the settings:

DXT5 (Interpolated Alpha)

Compressor Type: Cluster fit (Slow/HQ)

Error Metric: Perceptual

No additional options.
shadowofneptune 13 May, 2017 @ 3:33pm
What export settings did you use to make this? I'm using GIMP for mine, and am having no luck.
Viscera 11 May, 2017 @ 5:03pm
Haven't played yet, subcribing to things. Had a look at this mod and HOLY SHIT WHY WOULD THEY RUIN IT LIKE THAT?????

I can confirm this works. Took some doing for me, though.:HappyMask:
skud13  [author] 11 May, 2017 @ 3:00pm
It's already for 1.6 PROMETHEUS. It will work with older version as well.
PROMETHEUS 11 May, 2017 @ 6:35am
Any 1.6 Update?
🐾𝓢𝓱𝓪𝓭𝓸𝔀💖 10 May, 2017 @ 5:38pm
I think I'll finish tomorrow. Old eyes getting blurry, and maybe some fresh ones will work tomorrow.:lampoff:
skud13  [author] 10 May, 2017 @ 5:35pm
Damn. Well hope it ends up alright mate.
🐾𝓢𝓱𝓪𝓭𝓸𝔀💖 10 May, 2017 @ 5:14pm
Funny, I was doing that while you wrote it. Doesn't seem to work. So what I'm going to do is the inevitable. Kill all Mods, "Verify Game Cache" and start all over with your Mod first.
skud13  [author] 10 May, 2017 @ 4:56pm
Try doing this if that doesn't work. Open my mod which should be located at "Your Steam Folder"\steamapps\workshop\content\281990\898556240

Go into the folder in the zip file "gfx\map"
Then open up your Stellaris game folder at "Your Steam Folder"\steamapps\common\Stellaris\

and go to the folder gfx\map and make a backup of these two files

galaxycolor.dds
nebulacolor.dds

Then copy and paste my mods files into that folder.

Star the game and see what happens. If it doesn't change anything I don't know what the issue could possibly be.

Note: I only changed the version number after you reported it wasn't working with 1.6. So I doubt that's the issue.
🐾𝓢𝓱𝓪𝓭𝓸𝔀💖 10 May, 2017 @ 4:53pm
I never change the version number. It's my experience that, that causes more problems, inspite what others preach.:cfacepalm:
skud13  [author] 10 May, 2017 @ 4:50pm
Try unsubbing and resubbing again.

I would point out though that the mod worked even without its version being updated on my end. So I doubt that's an issue. Changing the version number does nothing but tell the game to either put or don't put the [!] symbol next to the mod.
🐾𝓢𝓱𝓪𝓭𝓸𝔀💖 10 May, 2017 @ 4:46pm
OK, before I go any further, you Mod still reads "This Mod does not support the current version." I unsubed, and resubed, and it still reads that.
skud13  [author] 10 May, 2017 @ 4:24pm
Alright mate let me know.
🐾𝓢𝓱𝓪𝓭𝓸𝔀💖 10 May, 2017 @ 4:24pm
OK, I'll check what you did first, than I'll try something else. We'll see.
skud13  [author] 10 May, 2017 @ 4:22pm
Sorry I'm not sure what the problem is. I just changed the mod version to 1.6.*.

I did see some other people earlier saying they had the same issue even with 1.5. Never was able to figure out the problem.
🐾𝓢𝓱𝓪𝓭𝓸𝔀💖 10 May, 2017 @ 4:22pm
I'm not going to give up on you. I'm going to try something.....
🐾𝓢𝓱𝓪𝓭𝓸𝔀💖 10 May, 2017 @ 4:11pm
I saw your pic, mine use to look like that. Not anymore. I can't explain it, but it started with the 1.6 update. I had this, and only this one galaxy Mod running. I just don't get it.:cfacepalm:
skud13  [author] 10 May, 2017 @ 4:09pm
That image was also with my Distant Worlds mod, so that still works too :) (saw you commented on that mod). Though that image is with an altered star size.
skud13  [author] 10 May, 2017 @ 4:07pm
With 1.6 though I did notice that they changed the map mode mechanic and now you can't see the unexplored parts of the galaxy in colour when you switch map modes you used to be able to. I imagine they did this because in vanilla, it also meant that the hexagons under stars were lit up where civs were allowing you to see where other as yet to be discovered civs existed.
skud13  [author] 10 May, 2017 @ 4:06pm
I just updated the game and ran it, it still works for me: http://imgur.com/a/I8BrO
skud13  [author] 10 May, 2017 @ 3:59pm
Bob, I'll update my game now and see what the issue is and then update the mod.
🐾𝓢𝓱𝓪𝓭𝓸𝔀💖 10 May, 2017 @ 2:41pm
Nope, doesn't work.

PS:
It does work if I revert back to 1.5, but not with 1.6
🐾𝓢𝓱𝓪𝓭𝓸𝔀💖 10 May, 2017 @ 2:22pm
Not for me, so I unsubed, and used an updated one. Sorry.

PS:
I'll try it again just to be sure.
skud13  [author] 10 May, 2017 @ 1:59pm
It should still work with 1.6 Bob.
🐾𝓢𝓱𝓪𝓭𝓸𝔀💖 10 May, 2017 @ 1:27am
Please update for 1.6 when you have the time. I miss my beautiful galaxy.:ci5earth:
Jazard 4 May, 2017 @ 9:30am
@ButtJunkie : thanks, i founded one. Hope it suits.
@skud13 thanks for adviece, i'm not interesting about all writing by hand, but if i have no choice i will do it. I only want 600 planets btw :)
skud13  [author] 4 May, 2017 @ 2:36am
@Jazard, in the past I did make multi-galaxy maps, however they were created with a tool that has not been updated for a long time now.

It also came with the issue of spawning points and galaxy shapes being static, though the contents of each system was random. Atm the only way I can see making maps that have more than one galaxy is for either the tool to be updated, or to go through and manually create a map file typing in coordinates by hand, which would take an extremely long time lol.
ButtJunkie 4 May, 2017 @ 12:49am
@Jazard - there are maps on the workshop with multiple galaxies, in terms of different star clusters. Haven't played with that myself though.
Jazard 3 May, 2017 @ 9:38am
hi, do you think we can do a galaxy shape including 2 galaxy ? i means on differents plan or even separate.
skud13  [author] 27 Apr, 2017 @ 12:41am
Ah, I was just intending to make the nebulae blend in with the galaxy better to make the map look more like screenshot number 6 from Space Engine. I can understand if people don't like it, it was just a visual choice of mine. You can still see them, they just blend in with the texture rather than contrasting with it (the texture is more subtle). I would probabally do the other things you mentioned too if it were possible, but then if such things were possible I would overhaul the game dramatically, such as increasing scale and making the map and borders (spherical borders) 3 dimensional.

You can always open up the mod and go to the folder where the nebulae texture is and brighten it up to increase visibility of them if you want. I might make an alternative mod of this one in the future if I get around to it, though atm I am quite happy with the current results.
Dark Thoughts 26 Apr, 2017 @ 10:55pm
Realism is not a good argument, because by that logic we would need to layer the stars inside as well to make them intentionally hard to see too. Or better make them invisible because in that scale they wouldn't be visible to the naked eye anyway.
skud13  [author] 26 Apr, 2017 @ 2:43pm
@Jicarro You might have another mod that is higher up on the alphabetical order that comes with a modification to the default galaxy texture.
skud13  [author] 26 Apr, 2017 @ 2:37pm
I am currently working on a mod that combines a number of my mod ideas with this map, as well as a few things I've not made mods on yet, to create a more realistic looking galaxy map. This is what it looks like so far. http://imgur.com/a/pj7nO
skud13  [author] 26 Apr, 2017 @ 2:37pm
@Astro, yes and yes.

@Whuuuut, yes the older texture was of lower quality, it's why I made this one. I've never encountered the cloud issue but then I may have just not noticed, I don't tend to pay attention to the words on the map and only really look at the icons. I'll look into it.

@Raumfahrer Spiff, the screenshots are just taken with a different map mode (like diplomacy) selected.

@Dark Thoughts, this was intentional to make the map look more realistic. You should still be able to see the nebulae, but they blend in a lot better with the galaxy and instead you probably will need to rely on looking for the nebulae names in some cases. I am not sure what you may be covering the borders. Can you show me a screenshot? I've not seen this.
Dark Thoughts 21 Apr, 2017 @ 3:55am
It looks great, but I think the nebulae are way too hard to see, often even basically invisible because they're covered entirely by the dust of the galactic plane itself which gets even worse whith borders covering it.
Raumfahrer Spiff 17 Apr, 2017 @ 12:49pm
May i ask, how i make it, the galaxy looks like yours? When i start a game, everything is grey (unexplored), and after all, full of colors from every empire.
Jicarro 14 Apr, 2017 @ 3:17pm
Ugh, none of the galaxy textures have worked for me. Does anyone know of a fix?
Davi 14 Apr, 2017 @ 11:52am
@skud13 I tried your other mod and it seems to be of lower quality? The textures for the galaxy I mean. Might be just me. Also in that mod there is some cloud when you zoom out that covers civs names and logo in some areas of the map sometimes.
ProBert 14 Apr, 2017 @ 8:35am
Does the texture function with all kind of galaxy´s?
Did i have to start a new game or will it also show up in savegames?
thx :)
skud13  [author] 11 Apr, 2017 @ 10:19pm
@Whuuuut, the only suggestion I can make is to get a mod that reduces the galaxy core size. My Distant Worlds mod does this, but there are other ones too.
Davi 11 Apr, 2017 @ 3:25am
Is it possible to make the middle smaller or less bright? Sometimes it's impossible to see some systems and hurts my eyes too :/
