Can you explain what you mean by ending expressways?
FYI this map is 5 years old, so techniques have changed and improved since then :)
Rozwój_Przemysłu 3 Mar, 2022 @ 7:45am
Map is cool but can you end expressways in your next map?
Thanks

Ack! I had no idea they came with that data. Here I've been working way too hard all along :D Thanks for that really helpful tip AmiPolizeiFunk! :chirp:
AmiPolizeiFunk 15 Apr, 2018 @ 8:33am
heh lol I think he was hoping for the latitudes and longitudes. if you used terrain.party it outputs them in a little text file included in the folder. they're great for making overlays from other sources like Open Street Map

Thx for the great map!!
What coordinates did you use for it?
Friedrich 16 Dec, 2017 @ 2:43pm
@MrMiyagi alright, already giving me more than I expected to thanks :P. If anyone takes up the offer let me know.
MaT 16 Dec, 2017 @ 12:53pm
Hey MrMiyagi, thank you so much for your fast reply ;)
I will try in map editor - i hope it will work - i use at the moment another map, but i like yours much more - as well it is better build
A lot of hours will get lost, but let's give a try
The ferry of AmiPolizeiFunk is nice, i have some of his workshop assets taken

Hiya Friedrich, always happy to hear ideas and requests! I'm not going to have time to do that, but I will ask around for you. That's a great world city!
Friedrich 16 Dec, 2017 @ 11:35am
I heard that you take requests so I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask: would you consider making a Frankfurt am Main map?
MrMiyagi  [author] 16 Dec, 2017 @ 7:04am
I had too much coffee AmiPolizeiFunk :D

Hey, the canal ferry stop is by a Berliner! Here you go, happy building!

MrMiyagi  [author] 16 Dec, 2017 @ 5:56am
If you're placing those canals or making changes IN-game (instead of map editor), the same behavior of water applies. How to survive with your sanity: first save as a different file name in case you don't like what you did, like "Berlin with Shipping" on both name fields.. Then hit pause, make all the changes to river width and/or adding canals (but be sure the original path of the river is still there). Save again. Hit run, the water will go all over the place. Have no fear, your cims will survive :D Eventually, the waters will return to proper location and the river will flow again because the water spawns I placed will still be inside the rivers.
Why did I write so much? I hope you publish such a revision of this map! :steamhappy:
MrMiyagi  [author] 16 Dec, 2017 @ 5:45am
2) Major shipping lane - To add what you want, it's a simple change to the river. Open this in map editor, hit pause, widen the downstream side of where the river exits the map (West side). Dig a wider river that goes as far as you want into the playable area. Hit play, fast speed, let the water go crazy until it settles down again and the wider river is normal, *then* draw a single shipping line in the water from the edge to the furthest point it will go. If it is red and says "must build on water", your river needs to be wider. Save your map with a different name than the original, and poof! You've got the map you want :)
I encourage you to change any map of mine you like, and will be glad if you want to republish it with your changes! The only cost? Share the link so I can enjoy and learn some new ideas :D
MrMiyagi  [author] 16 Dec, 2017 @ 5:45am
Hiya info, first to explain, I would have liked to have shipping actually. The way the game's network for regular shipping lanes are sized, it is too wide to fit down this real-life width Spree. It will have to be around 10x wider than it is here. I made the map before Mass Transit came out, otherwise I definitely would have designed it for easy ferry route placement.
Solutions: 1) ferries - If you place down the wide Mass Transit canals made for ferries, you should be able to have ferry routes. Also, there's a ferry terminal for canals in the workshop which would fit better than the large default ones.
MaT 16 Dec, 2017 @ 3:28am
With shipping connection, it would be the best Berlin map, what i have seen
@MrMiyagi
Would it be possible for you to modify ?

Are the waterways usabel for the mass transit ferries ?
AmiPolizeiFunk 18 Oct, 2017 @ 3:00pm
thx Mr. M, very informative. Good to know the approach you took when creating this map :medkit:
MrMiyagi  [author] 18 Oct, 2017 @ 1:35pm
This Berlin site looks similar to the Leipzig site I found which has all kinds of official data, maps and images. I found some cool stuff in the Leipzig one http://www.stadtentwicklung.berlin.de/geoinformation/fis-broker/
MrMiyagi  [author] 18 Oct, 2017 @ 1:32pm
It's actually completely by hand. When I first got a request for Berlin, I went to terrain.party... and not only was it the usual mess, it was also so low when imported into the game, that it would leave very little below ground space for all the U Bahns and S Bahns one would obviously want.
So what I did is make the ground level quite a bit higher than the default 40m. I use a screenshot of the grid image set to 18km on terrain.party as the overlay so that I kept it to scale. The waterways are a little bit wider than real life, but that's a limitation of the game. So I can't give you a resource for data unfortunately, but that's how I did this one :)
AmiPolizeiFunk 18 Oct, 2017 @ 12:56pm
I'm thinking about starting over from scratch, so naturally the map is the first thing to consider. Just took a closer look at yours and found it interesting how you found different workshop intersections to function around the ring. how long did this take you to map? where did you get the topography info?
MrMiyagi  [author] 18 Oct, 2017 @ 11:53am
I made it from the middling overlay linked above ^^ and obviously most of the highways on this aren't even highways in real life. Lots of bulldozing if you want to make it just like Berlin.
Since this map I've gotten a little better handle on how this works, so this map isn't the greatest, but at least it's definitely at 1:1 scale. That much I can say :D
AmiPolizeiFunk 16 Oct, 2017 @ 2:55pm
yep, I get all that. It's just hard to stitch projections together if anything at all is different with the aspect or projection technique. Did you make this map based off of openstreetmap data?
MrMiyagi  [author] 16 Oct, 2017 @ 11:08am
*set the ratio to the minimum you can lol. Well, I have no idea , but basically I put 1:50 and it comes up with the max it will do for you. I forget what that is but it'S in the hundreds or thousands... the pixel size of the image is the important thing.
MrMiyagi  [author] 16 Oct, 2017 @ 11:06am
Unfortunately no, but I've learned a new way to get a much higher resolution one. You can piece together multiple images from Openstreetmap.org . Go to the zoom you like, then on the right hand side click the icon for "share", then you will see on the right more optios, set the ratio to the max that you can (so that the image says it will be over 2k pixels on one side, I forget the specific numbers), then click save image. Then, staying at the same zoom, just move around Berlin and stitch together your individual map images, and use this low res overlay of Berlin to get the final overlay at the right scale. I pieced together all of Leipzig into a 4K overlay and it's amazing - can see all the street names and buildings :D
AmiPolizeiFunk 16 Oct, 2017 @ 6:04am
Do you have a higher resolution version of the overlay map?
pertjparn 8 May, 2017 @ 10:23am
You're being too darn helpful. :) Thanks, will try your tips.
MrMiyagi  [author] 8 May, 2017 @ 9:38am
Ah, okay lemme try to help. So it should be square, maybe use one of the standard Unity sizes like 1024x1024 pixels, 2048x2048 pixels. If that doesn't work, there are more instructions on the mod's page - there are keys that move your overlay around and zoom in/out, but I don't have to use them since I made sure the overlay I made matches the map made here exactly. Oh! Another idea - use the overlay I made when trying to get your own overlay to the right scale.
pertjparn 8 May, 2017 @ 6:45am
Thanks MrMiyagi. I wonder though, where's the problem when trying another overlay, it's not showing in it's entirety?
MrMiyagi  [author] 7 May, 2017 @ 8:55am
Thanks! I forgot to add that, didn't I? It is Overlayer v2, and it's excellent. https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=662933818
pertjparn 7 May, 2017 @ 4:48am
Great map. Which overlay tool have you used to position the map in-game?
MrMiyagi  [author] 13 Apr, 2017 @ 5:43am
No problem Arnold, the water concern did pop into mind since it is such a narrow river when keeping it to scale. It's basically as deep as I could go without making it look awful. It's pretty deep for such a thin river, but also the volume of water passing through is pretty strong, so those two together should hopefully help. For later game play, on the fifth picture there is a water spawn marked. As you get to very large size, if you put your water intakes right over top of that spawn, you should have no problems. It's at full blast and has (I think) I depth of 60 or 70 meters. This map can host a mega city traffic and build-wise, so I planned that in.
jPRO93 13 Apr, 2017 @ 1:57am
Amazing work! Can I have question? How deep is the river?
JernBesta 11 Apr, 2017 @ 2:35pm
