Since it is a stacking multiplier which modifies the end magnitude of spells after Augmented Flames etc. I think the 50% is in a good spot. It gives you 50% more power at normal spell cost vs. dual casting's 120% more power at double spell cost with stagger. The dagger is a ton more efficient plus a free ward spell, but dual casting produces more dps.
I didn't want the dagger to make dual casting obsolete, but make it an alternative. Provided you don't get cheap with enchants and make your spells cost nothing, the dagger is a good option for pure mages or hybrids that want more spell power without the massive cost.
However, if more people feel like it needs more power I might change it.
I think it looks good, less like a weapon but more than a ceremonic/supporting tool for spellcasting.
Was inevitable someone would like the old one, but the new version is definitely more interesting than a dagger with a design on the blade that didn't look like what was intended. I also remembered to do a specular map this time, shame skyrim doesn't get all the detail of the spec map to show though.
Done.
I could probably do that.
The new update worked, I'm using it right now, Looks really nice! Keep up the good work :)
For the crystallic looks in general you can always look at the glass-weapons/armors (or in this case, Chillrend might be better IMO). And even though you might yet say you're not up to the challenge of diving into blender for creating something you're more satisfied with, this small dagger might be just a key to the door standing between you and mesh-creation. Many creative modders start with small things they work on until they like them.
It's a dagger that boosts your spells, but also essentially functions as a staff that casts Ward spells. It's not able to get stabby, it's more of a magic shield.
Don't get too attached to the looks, I will be changing it soon for the better.
I'm redoing the textures for this and hopefully they'll please, maybe be done tomorrow if I can find time to work on it.

If you think the blade looks crystal-ish enough I'll probably redo the rest of the textures.
As for the dagger, I'd say a little more stuff on the blade or hilt, maybe a gear pommel or something.
Yeah, my memory of Morrowind is fading fast, figuring out the tools makes sense. I was thinking the mechanical obsession was after he became a recluse and was recreating the world by his designs.
I actually did a quick test to see if I could get something crystalline looking to work on the blade, I just don't think I can get it to look terribly convincing on an existing mesh and I'm not quite up to the challenge of learning how to use Blender and jumping through the hoops of getting the nifscripts to export for it.
If you're curious this screenshot is what that quick attempt looked like. http://i.imgur.com/KTeH8.jpg
Maybe if I think of a better way to do the texture I'll give it another try, because I wasn't really satisfied with how this ended up looking compared to the other weapon I did.
Yeah, mechanical was out not being able to do my own mesh. Crystalline would've been more doable but I didn't think of it. Think the whole clockwork obsession was well post-godhood. I made this more for function than looks.
A staff would've been too on the nose and dual wielding staves looks silly, the dagger should be increasing the power of stave spells as well should you wield both.
Yup, was just an idea anyway :)
That's actually not a bad design idea. Though I'm not sure I want to revisit this particular item.
As with the liquid-magicka-idea; why not try to split the blade in the middle (similar to a pen) and insert a "line" of liquid magicka between the blade parts? Instead having it look like veins, you could try to let this line end in something that looks like a tree or a symbol, close to where the grip is Just an idea.
Good job
