Thanks for the kind words. It sounds as if your problem is caused by a different mod or a possible mod conflict. This mod and the Tribes of Terra mod do not change any defines or do anything other than add static portraits.
These are not animated. I was hoping to expand the variety at each tier, but sadly the API that was intended for 1.6 that would have allowed it wasn't implemented.
I need to do some testing, but it doesn't appear that the synthetic API was opened up to allow for variety to synthetic portraits in the same way that custom races are, according to the patch notes. I will do some testing, but mod changes appear to be very small.
Yes, this is just a replacer for the regular synthetic progression.
