I've been looking through the various .sbc files and I'm guessing the game dynamically calculates the stresses on the blocks. From what I've found the Stone Pillars are defined by the "Heavy Stone" material which is good. Max integrity is 600 which seems reasonable compared to full stone block. Kinda looks like you'd have to define your own physical material. I don't know if the game allows that. Right at the top of PhysicalMaterials.sbc is the definition for Stone and later on there are variants. Lots of different things to know to get stuff to work right!

Hey Wolf, I'm curious if the SDK forces all variants to use the same recipe? Vanilla stone pillars are notoriously weak and have abysmal structural integrity. Would be nice to have a variant that is "reinforced" to be much stronger but requires more/different materials. I might take a look at the Stone pillar block myself. Maybe it'd be better to mod the original and make a mod variant. Seems like it should just be a matter of editing the block definition file.

After a long wait i have finally updated these. For now these are just stone I will eventually add wood also. they are in the workbench and in your I crafting menu. they are on a variant also (mouse scroll select)

Updated to 5.1 with variant. Could not figure out how to make it stoneworks researchable. After an hour of searching and realizing very very few are making any stoneworks and I don't understand the ones i found. This is very difficult and i hope it will be simplified.

Updated but not 5.1 ready. Not exactly sure how to do 5.1 with variants yet. I had no error messages loading this so it should be ok to use. I will try and work the 5.1 in later when I have reversed engineered someboodys elses 5.1 variant mod. Soory for the inconveniance.
