For anyone who is wondering how to draw on the pad.... Put it in your square and then press "L" to lock the pad. Then use the pen option to draw.

better yet, start the game with all the pages of the notepads locked except for the first one - more foolproof.

Essentially it was a sort of folk game first, starting in 1984 ( according to BGG [boardgamegeek.com])
