According to Wikipedia, "The Big 5 name is derived from its start in 1955 as five Army-Navy surplus stores in Southern California."

Whatever, my cims tell me this store does indeed stock equipment for all the sports you mention, and also some you don't, like dodgeball, tug-of-war, and even Turkish oil wrestling.
