Fair enough, they do need to work on the game more, I'd like to see some maps in Libya and shit with the Afrika Korps

I havent played DOI for a while but if my interest was to be rekindled, I would certainly consider.

Can you make one for the MG42?

I love skins like this. It's simple, it looks nice, it purely adds to the weapon, it's not distracting, and is still completely realistic. Any chance you'll make stuff like this for any other weapons?

"women are hard to find in a warzone. In their absence, the cooling shroud of his Lewis Gun became his canvas, and onto it flowed the paint (or scratches) of patriotism." - am I the only one who understood what the author meant? THE SOLDIER WROTE THOSE STUFF ON THE SHROUD USING THE ***** OUT OF HIS ****. almost dead laughing ove rhere btw*

First off, I bloody love the mod. Adore little touches like this. For those who are curious, the message on the right side near the sights is "Eat shit Krauts". :steamhappy:

It's funny because the Shroud may have just been added to give creadance to make it seem like he didn't copy Maclean's gun(Which the Lewis gun started from). During the Second World War, the shrouds were stripped off for weigth saving and the guns were found to function fine and have no overheating issues, even in sustained fired that occured, such as anti aircraft mounts.

After the war that came up as a debate on whether it was needed.

Only way we could find out now would be to take two Lewis Guns, take the shroud off one and have them fire and see which one warps first. Good luck finding any Lewis owners willing to do that.

Could you make a variant that said "fuck trump and fuck white people"
Anthony 1 Jun, 2017 @ 3:55am
Discussions of opinion never get resolved so i'm just going to leave this where it is.
Anthony 1 Jun, 2017 @ 3:47am
It is not needed for every application, it is needed for the medium machine gun role it was often put into. That application would find Lewis gunners using such high volume of fire that heat warped barrels were a common problem even with the shroud on. This situation is a difference of opinion, not fact. You are correct that for a light machine gun role the barrel shroud is superfluous, but in my opinion if the gun was expected to be put into a medium machine gun role it should be ready for that role. If it is not i do not believe that the gun is fully functional.
/K/ommodore  [author] 1 Jun, 2017 @ 3:34am
I'm not sure where you are coming to the assumption that the cooling shroud is needed in every application. Even without, the gun had enough capacity for heat dispersion to keep it operational, and thus fufill all of its intended uses. I suggest you look up the BSA Light Infanty Pattern Lewis Gun, was a lewis gun that was used in a fully-automatic assault coniguration albeit without the shroud.
Anthony 1 Jun, 2017 @ 3:22am
An army does not adopt a weapon and expect it to fill just one use. They take what is available to them and put it to good use. the M1 carbine was used as not just a PDW as was intended, but it was also pushed onto the frontline as a service rifle. The Flak 36 was used primarily as an anti-air artillery piece, but was also used in north africa as an anti-tank cannon. (then later redesignated for the the PzKpw VI and Königstiger) I am not misunderstanding your assertion, i am rejecting the idea that a gun that is put in a state as to not be useful for all the functions it is asked to fulfill is fully "functional".
Anthony 1 Jun, 2017 @ 2:59am
Yes you can pull the trigger and the gun will fire, but for sustained fire the shroud is needed to keep the gun functional. The Vickers gun was supposed to be the sustained fire workhorse of the British Army but sometimes there simply wasn't enough of them to go around. In their place a lot of Lewis guns were placed in entrenched positions and used for high volume fully automatic fire. I'm saying that shooting a few rounds off as if it is an assault rifle is perfectly feasable without the shroud, but for it's somewhat common use as a medium machine gun the shroud is essential.
/K/ommodore  [author] 31 May, 2017 @ 11:16pm
You seem to have severly misread what I said - my argument was that the gun would function completely fine without the shroud, as it does. So, you stating that it is as essential as the trigger is absolutely incorrect. But please keep trying, I love having these arguments.
Anthony 31 May, 2017 @ 8:04pm
Regardless of your of your knowledge (or lack there of) of firearms this is a good mod.
Anthony 31 May, 2017 @ 8:02pm
Like i said, things getting down the bore is so uncommon it was (and still is) a non-issue and the Lewis guns that were misused in place of Vickers guns would have never survived the first world war if the shroud had never served it's purpose. Case and point, the shroud is no more useless than the trigger used to fire the gun. :FrogPepe:
/K/ommodore  [author] 31 May, 2017 @ 4:36pm
"Away" carries the connotation of inside, as was my point. The gun functioned nominally without the shroud.
Anthony 31 May, 2017 @ 7:52am
"kept dirt away from the barrel" is very unreasonable because if you get mud on the barrel it will effect nothing. A problem occurs when you get mud DOWN the barrel. A bore obstruction can happen to any gun, but is so extremely unlikely that no successful technique has ever needed to be developed to stop dirt from going down a barrel while the gun is firing. It simply doesn't happen.
/K/ommodore  [author] 31 May, 2017 @ 4:32am
It was actualy highly unnecessary, and was only really used by infrantry with the shroug as it kept dirt away from the barrel.
Anthony 31 May, 2017 @ 12:19am
The barrel shroud is integral to the flow of air over the cooling fins.
Wolf.Enstein 29 May, 2017 @ 6:01am
That's a really nice gun mod, LB.

Ziggylata 24 May, 2017 @ 8:58am
When you do the garand, can you add a small white section in the center of the middle bar of the ironsights? To be more specific, I find it too fat and if the middle was more focused with a marking that would be wonderful.
Lightningfrog5 24 May, 2017 @ 8:12am
I love it! Quick question though, what does the etching say on the right hand side of the stock on the plate thing?
/K/ommodore  [author] 24 May, 2017 @ 5:26am
@Patelski I'm doing a Garand this weekend, if I have time I'll do the Bren as well
