Quick question, have you identified the cause of the gyro malfunctions? I am attempting to build my own mech similarly to yours and I'm concerned about it being a waste of time (I build primarily in survival). Also, this is my favorite thing that I've seen on the workshop :).

Oh great Caboose's pet death machine is back.

Strange, haven't tried that one
Knife Grinder 11 Mar, 2020 @ 4:22pm
hmm, wonder ifit could work if it was two seperate elements?joined by connectors or just mag locked to each other. essentialy having two mechs, one just a pair of legs, and the other the upper half with all the guns

also, just found I was somehow a fool... fresh from blueprint mantis and jaegar had gyros on them locked to upright, but the ones I left in my world had them reset to normal, no wonder I was staggering around like a drunken rugby player :steamfacepalm:
BlackArmor  [author] 9 Mar, 2020 @ 7:56pm
I'm pretty sure turret scripts have problems trying to allow one person to pilot and one person operate the gun. It's restricted to just one cockpit being able to move anything.
Knife Grinder 9 Mar, 2020 @ 6:05pm
so, heavier weight means more downwards pressure, keeps a standing mech standing, and on a lower gravity world like mars, or one of the moons it helps a bit with traction, so less walking on air. but it also means on a higher gravity world like earth or the alien world when its starts to tip its much harder to recover. having some of the gyros locked to level helps on both heavyweight mantis and lightweight mantis, forgot to test if it helps with your glitch though

and I must admit, lots of craters, but that was mostly because they are a LOT of fun to pilot, thought of doing a two person mech? one person controlling the legs and direction of travel, and making the top half similar to a turret and individually controlled? might make taking on aircraft drones a bit easier
BlackArmor  [author] 1 Mar, 2020 @ 6:04pm
It's light, trying to keep the weight down
Knife Grinder 1 Mar, 2020 @ 3:09pm
Actually, subscribed to a couple of your mechs, gonna test it myself and see what craters I make...
Knife Grinder 1 Mar, 2020 @ 3:07pm
Absolutely beautiful, but do you use light or heavy armor blocks for the mech? and how would it impact the performance if you switched?

the mantis from halo 4 huh cool now when i do get SE finaly installed then i will mess around with it

@halipatsui
I haven't built anything since late May. Life got pretty busy and my priorities switched. I usually put around 20-30 hours into each thing I built and made a video for, but I don't have that kind of free time anymore. Sorry about that. I've got some big projects laying around that are 60-70% done so I'm sure I will finish those when I have the time again.

Glad you liked the channel
halipatsui 5 Aug, 2017 @ 9:25am
Blackarmor. Do you play space engineers anymore?
Your youtube channel was one of the most entertaining ones to follow back when you made more videos.

It looks like Mantis with exoskeleton.

Just in case somebody was planning to use rotors for mechs and sorts...seems like the last major patch 1.181.0 causes a few issues by changing the rotor distance every time you place a build into the world causing a real glitchfest no matter how often you reset the rotors.Thought I'd warn you guys before having your builds explode in your face.Best try out on something harmless before destroying something important.Time to send a bug report...:)
Megato0n 1 Jun, 2017 @ 12:18pm
Someone needs to build a tiny sombrero for this
Emrule 1 Jun, 2017 @ 12:00pm
The legs are a bit disproportianately long. Maybe you could make the torso bigger?
Lexe 1 Jun, 2017 @ 11:48am
Technically very well done. Practically useless, you can't weld that into survival.
ДНО 1 Jun, 2017 @ 3:10am
You can make robots from Battlefield 2142

Handle them the Johnsons ;p
Bushmaster 30 May, 2017 @ 8:46am
@selfishpie Last I checked this type of design (walkers) are only really good for aesthetics. Put it in survival and an actual combat scenario and it wouldn't be very effective; yet. It's quite sad because walkers like this are amazing.
GryffintheBaron 30 May, 2017 @ 1:25am
THIS IS FUCKING AWESOME!!!

the only time i wil be intrigued by a mech in this game is if someone can get it to fucking turn
Cmdr. DoomForge™ 28 May, 2017 @ 12:59am
Part of the issue I think with my attempt though is that I tried to use hinges for the knee and ankle joints to try and more closely mimic actual joints, but because I was trying to keep the hinges centered the leg sections were 3 blocks in width.
Cmdr. DoomForge™ 28 May, 2017 @ 12:54am
Nicely done! Wanted to try making one of these myself before, but wasn't sure how to get the proportions right for the leg joints. Would be great if there's a way to rig these up with hte control module script for WASD control with possible mouse-look while walking. That would be the icing on the cake for mech builds.
STRIKER 28 May, 2017 @ 12:22am
we'll finally get to play as Freckles from RVB

V4D4RS F1ST 27 May, 2017 @ 8:42pm
The rotors are kinda sad nowadays. If only they had serious power. perhaps a adjustable rotor power mod so that the more energy a rotor consumes the stronger it gets. While it would be very power hungry at some point it would leave the options unlimited so long as you can create and maintain the proper power levels.
BlackArmor  [author] 27 May, 2017 @ 8:21pm
@Renegade
Indeed. Thank you
Cerberus 27 May, 2017 @ 7:56pm
so you're telling me, that with this, i could have my very own freckles? (Great job, one of my favorite bipeds on the workshop)
BlackArmor  [author] 27 May, 2017 @ 7:44pm
@M➍ HΛWƧΣ
Good to hear that about the rotors. I will not be using the supergrids though since I like my stuff to reflect what can be made from normal, vanilla blocks.
Big Red 27 May, 2017 @ 5:46pm
@BlackArmor I have made catapults with stacked rotors, the torque is doubled depending on the velocity! And I have some interesting supergrid blocks you may be interested in...
BlackArmor  [author] 27 May, 2017 @ 10:07am
@[NCF] LastWilliam14
Haha ok. Thanks dude

@Bruce
I think that's an awesome idea! I would fully support such a block. Also stacking two rotors should create more torque I agree. Makes sense to me but I never fully tested to see if that was the case.
commie._.tears 27 May, 2017 @ 9:48am
Oh, i thought it had 3 on top and 3 on bottom. Nevermind, then. Its still badass
Bruce LeedleLeedleLeedleLee 27 May, 2017 @ 9:44am
i made a little concept for better rotor based propulsion on the forums if you want to take a look: https://forums.keenswh.com/threads/block-suggestion-to-make-alternative-ground-vehicles-viable.7395003/
maybe double rotor hinges create more torque?
BlackArmor  [author] 27 May, 2017 @ 9:43am
I don't see what harm would be caused if they just doubled the torque for them. That, and perhaps some stronger kind of block for use on feet and we could make some Pacific Rim sized stuff
Bruce LeedleLeedleLeedleLee 27 May, 2017 @ 9:39am
i have some prototype mechs from earlier on when i was still figuring walking out
can confirm, rotors are weak af
BlackArmor  [author] 27 May, 2017 @ 9:38am
@Bruce
Thanks, was hoping it would be light enough that I wouldn't have to use them but...SE says no.
Bruce LeedleLeedleLeedleLee 27 May, 2017 @ 9:13am
them legs tho lol. very nice use of pistons, as always
