@stormtrooperkid08 Yep.
Maps only break if they rely on mods that break (such as maps that need Network Extensions, for instance, are in danger with every update, which is why I swapped them for vanilla roads)
KScimone 22 Apr, 2021 @ 1:53pm
does this still work in 2021?
AquilaSol  [author] 30 Dec, 2018 @ 6:03pm
@ Vikkanboi
The map theme is listed in the required items. It's New Caledonia (Custom Pavement) v.1.1.
The LUT is an experimental one that isn't on the workshop.
I also used Daylight Classic, Dynamic Resolution, Ultimate Eyecandy, and PostprocessFX.

I would recommend using the Relight mod + its LUTs instead. Relight Average and Relight Neutral are nice, and you can tweak them with the mod itself. (They weren't out at the time I made the map, sadly)
vivanhoe 30 Dec, 2018 @ 12:40pm
what theme and lut do you use? for me the colors look weird, it doesn't look like the pictures at all.

@ Telecaster
Trafffic ++ V2 is known to cause it (although nobody should be using that anymore anyway.) There might be others.

It's easiest to check this list of incompatible and broken mods. (Copy the URL, Steam's link filter freaks out over google docs documents.)

Could be a mod. But I have plenty. Do you know any mods that might cause this?
AquilaSol  [author] 18 Oct, 2018 @ 8:57am
@Telecaster
Did you connect them to a road grid?
Have you checked your mods for incompatible or broken mods?
Telecaster 18 Oct, 2018 @ 5:52am
No cars spawn in my city. How do i fix this? There is not a single car on the highway.
QuantumEterna 19 Jul, 2018 @ 9:31am
@ElpiTech123 Yes, you can use any theme you want. :) You can also use Theme Mixer to change just the pavement texture to something else.
Nova_sense_field 18 Jul, 2018 @ 2:23pm
Other themes will work for this mod, right? The New-Caledonia theme is gorgeous but the sidewalks don't work with my various road mods that I have currently downloaded.
Maine's Own 6 Nov, 2017 @ 10:49am
i really like this one
AquilaSol  [author] 19 Oct, 2017 @ 11:52am
@Majly Sajrus The highway is the default 3 lane highway. (and it goes in both directions) :)
doktor mugg 19 Oct, 2017 @ 11:47am
Is it two lane highway?
AquilaSol  [author] 22 Sep, 2017 @ 1:36pm
@Elrond Hubbard The game's odd water mechanics, unfortunately. For some reason the game often loads the ocean as a massive water spawn. Out of 130 tries, it happens about 55 times.
Bodacious Cowboy 21 Sep, 2017 @ 8:19pm
The water off both coasts is full of enormous weird ripples that flood the coast. What causes that?
PopSawyer 21 Aug, 2017 @ 1:45pm
A possible issue I've encountered is a lack of water currents, so water pollution tends to sit and accumulate. (dunno if thats just me tho?)
Other than that, love the map, so many ideas :)
bridpri 1 Aug, 2017 @ 8:41pm
Awesome map.... Just got my new computer and palyed on this map all day today. Thank you for this map
AquilaSol  [author] 25 Jun, 2017 @ 9:35am
@prince_laharal
:( I had hoped that would work.

Something else you can try, if you use the 81 tiles mod (or the Cross The Line Mod), is to remove a large chunk of trees. It's possible the old bug is affecting your trees.

Another option is to use the Prop It Up mod and replace all the free standing trees with some of Pdelmo's excellent low poly trees. They are lighter on the system, and look better as well. Their LOD might be better, especially if its a bug with the vanilla trees.
(I would recommend doing that on every map anyway, as it looks better and is more FPS friendly. I used the vanilla trees so people can choose for themselves which trees they want to use.)
Prince_Laharal 25 Jun, 2017 @ 1:08am
@AquilaSol . Despite me launching the map without mods, adjusting the textures and LODs and reinstalling the game, I'm almost at the same point as yesterday. Pushing the LOD changes a bit the end result but I'm sure that with a full city it will be unplayable on my end (with max LOD and textures). I'll probably still try your map soon anyways: seems too good to pass on. Nonetheless, I really want to thank you for your patience and will to help a fellow Skyliner out. Sucess to you,
RebelSapph 24 Jun, 2017 @ 10:50pm
one of the best maps i found in workshop, good work!
AquilaSol  [author] 24 Jun, 2017 @ 2:09pm
@prince laharal The Theme Mixer shouldn't affect trees, but if you want to try it, simply delete Settings.xml from the C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\255710\775021554 folder. The mod will create a new, clean one when you launch the game.

Try turning off all mods and assets and see if it still happens. The fastest way to do so is to copy the map into the local folder (from C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\255710\935193705 into C:\Users\[user]\AppData\Local\Colossal Order\Cities_Skylines\Maps) and then use the --noWorkshop launch option to temporarily disable the workshop for the game. (Steam app> Library > rightclick on Cities Skylines > Properties > Set Launch Options. Simply copy paste --noWorkshop (the entire thing, the capital letters matter) and hit ok.)

Also, yes, try setting the Level of Detail option to Very High, and Textures to Medium or High.

AquilaSol  [author] 24 Jun, 2017 @ 2:09pm
@Prince_laharal It's weird that it only happens on this map. The only thing I can think of is a bug from a year or so ago where some people started getting LOD problems every time more buildings were added.

Which is possible, as the map is very close to the 250k tree limit. They fixed it by reinstalling, but that is a bit drastic for my taste.

I've never seen it happen on my (admittedly very potato) system, but it is possible that some systems and some GPU drivers have an issue rendering that many trees.

Prince_Laharal 24 Jun, 2017 @ 1:40pm
If I don't use any of those, and that the problem (up to now) seems only on this map? Do I need to tweak with some texture options in the game? Cry in a corner yelling why at the sky for this injustice?

Would doing your : ''It could also be Theme Mixer's config file, I've had to delete it a few times in the past over texture issues in random saves.'' trick be useful in this case? (if yes how?) Thanks again for your quick help.
AquilaSol  [author] 24 Jun, 2017 @ 1:33pm
@prince_laharal Yea, that looks like an LOD issue. :( All trees and buildings have an LOD, which is a low-res version for distance view. The higher the Level Of Detail setting, the further you can zoom out before the LOD shows.

Mods like Adaptive Prop Visibility Distance and LOD Toggler can increase and decrease the distance at which the LOD appears. Sometimes their settings might go wonky and things start looking weird. If you use any of those, check their settings.

Thank you! :)

Prince_Laharal 24 Jun, 2017 @ 11:23am
@AquilaSol Thanks for your quick answer, I'll look into it! Even if I can't fix the problems I must say that the two continents theme and the jagged coastlines really struck my eyes. Weel done!
AquilaSol  [author] 24 Jun, 2017 @ 3:31am
@Prince_laharal That's weird! :( I only used vanilla trees for the map, and you can play any map with any set of textures, so that should by itself not cause an issue.

Does it happen when you disable all mods? It strikes me as an issue with the Sharper Textures mod or one of the LOD mods.

It could also be Theme Mixer's config file, I've had to delete it a few times in the past over texture issues in random saves. (and for some reason it often magnifies textures unless I load every map and save with the vanilla texture and set the theme post-load)
Prince_Laharal 24 Jun, 2017 @ 12:02am
I have a weird texture issue not present on other maps (i.e. trees are only fully rendered when the camera is quite close). Is it a know issue that could be on my end? A know conflict with assets? I'd really want to play on this superbly design map but the texture problem really annoys my eyes. Thanks!

@AquilaSol Thanks for your detail, this is an interesting background story, I think I'll stick with it. Cheers and thanks for your great work.
SovietSeamstress 6 Jun, 2017 @ 7:17pm
This is a really cool map, only issue is that the elevation of the water in the southeast (near the larger island) is weird and tends to partially flood the island
AquilaSol  [author] 6 Jun, 2017 @ 3:37pm
@quarterwind The story of the map is that of a remote region of the world where nobody has yet had any reason to build. Hence 'Frontier'. ;) The limited road connection, as well as the terrain, is a challenge the new mayor will have to find a way to solve.

The amount of traffic depends entirely on how the new mayor handles things. ;)

However, if you want to add more outside connections, you can use the Unlimited Outside Connections mod with either the 81 Tiles Mod or the Cross The Line mod to simply add new road and train connections wherever you please. :)

Alternatively you can open the map in the Map Editor and change the connections to your liking. :)
quarterwind 5 Jun, 2017 @ 8:55pm
This is a great map, really gorgeous. I hope there would be more outside connections tho, I would imaging the highway will soon become super busy and filled with uneven traffic.

@Czardus Awesome! I look forward to seeing how the city grows!

@MadTech Thank you! I'm a graphic designer by trade, so for me providing the screenshots is one of the most fun parts of building a map. :)

@agusingnavy Thank you! :D The LUT is a work in progress. It's almost finished, so I intend to release it within the next week or so. Just working out the last kinks and testing it on other monitors. :)
Czardus 31 May, 2017 @ 9:44am
I'm playing through this map, and I'm trying to do my first-ever let's play / city journal. You can read it here: https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/index.php?threads/welcome-to-victoria.1026250/

Thanks for your work on this map!
MadTech 31 May, 2017 @ 8:48am
@AquilaSol - Great looking map, a lot of thought needed to get the best out of this map but I think the challenge will be worth it and produce some exceptional maps. Love the screenshots BTW, not many map creators take the time to fully illustrate their creations. Wel Done :steamhappy:
agusingnavy 30 May, 2017 @ 4:32am
Fantastic @AquilaSol. I would like to know which LUT you used to take the screenshots and, if you used Daylight Classic, which options checked, cos I love the colors. Thanks for sharing. I really like this map.
AquilaSol  [author] 29 May, 2017 @ 10:33pm
@You Are Loved I made that choice on purpose. Like the steep cliffs, the single highway is something the new mayor will have to find a solution for. :)

Many seasoned players demolish the entire road network of any map, and place their own connections instead. For that I recommend the 81 Tiles mod and the More Network Stuff mod. These two will give you full control over the various connections.
You Are Loved 29 May, 2017 @ 10:23pm
Great map - my only feedback would be to add another road connnection, as traffic gets VERY crowded on that one highway in and out!
colonyan 29 May, 2017 @ 7:40pm
Very nice. Liking alot just looking at images. Good balance between realisticness and playability!
